  • Tuffy, a mangy, rough-and-tumble tomcat, acts as chaperone to two pocket-sized puppies in these two animated shorts.
Both of these shorts were originally produced in color*.I did find some info on distributor Noma, who advertised in Newsweek in an October 1947 Newsweek the following blurb: "For Children: An 8-millimeter, crank-operated movie projector is being distributed by Noma Tel-A-Show, Inc., New York. It has a built-in, peep-show screen that can be used in a lighted room. Films come in magazines for easy loading without threading."
There is where my information on these films ends. No info other than the title appears on the film's box or 50ft reel (Both films are on the same reel, and splices are not present).
My guess is that Tuffy was produced outright for Noma and the home gauge market (as opposed to being produced for theatrical distribution, then sold on home gauge), and I suppose this lack of info makes sense... Still, a strange find! If you have any info on the Tuffy character or its animators, or additional Tuffy films, let me know in the comments!
*Here's a link to an expired Marktplaats listing, showing stills of both films in color: www.marktplaat...
