You really should look into the shieldnodes on the outside up past the bloodmagic keystone if you really want to crank armor+block AND dip into damage that way. The armor value of your shield is super important for many things: 1) your armor (duh) before all your %increased armor passives apply, 2) the "weapondamage" of shieldskills such as shieldcharge, shieldwall and resonating blow, 3) the damageboost of notables such as "greatest defense" (2% increased damage per 75 armor *after* passivebonus applies). I'm convinced we've never taken armorvalues high enough to be good past mid-tier unjuiced maps. Right now I've leveled my 2nd warrior which is a titan at lvl 67 (my warbringer is "stuck" at 88, keeps dieing). My titan is sitting at 29k armor unbuffed with a garbage shield and leveling gear in glove, boot, helmet slots mainly using the "brass dome" unique armor with a near perfect roll which is responsible for 21.9k of that armor value when I take everything else off but with proper investment a really strong shield could add almost as much to the armor total while totally busting all the attackskills that use the shield as a weapon. Disclaimer: so far I've only done low tier maps on the titan but given that he has 4x the armor my warbringer has and isn't fully geared yet I'm cautiously optimistic however I WILL add in some energy shield on top either through boots+gloves or a shieldswap to a str/int hybrid just so I can have a bit bigger buffer for the bossing after which I will also take the "bulwark" keystone for a flat 30% DR when dodgerolling but giving up the i-frames for it. Edit: forgot to mention, I also make use of "additional physical damage reduction" on both the shield and the armor (5% corruption) which should help delay the failurepoint of the armorvalue.
Loved the video, as one of my favorite "end game" content creators I am happy to see you on PoE2. I will say, for anyone who has been frustrated either with theory crafting and/or the difficulty of this game; it is entirely reasonable to create a new character from scratch with better knowledge then you had before. Hardcore PoE fans create many characters over the course of their playtime, and better yet, if you play on the standard mode, the gold and resources in your stash can be used immediately on your new toon! in terms of melee mitigation, i think your best bet right now might be cloak of flame... I've been planning on swapping over to it, but it can be pricey to get the other things like rings, amulet and belt to account for some of the lost stats since you're using cloak of flame. You can further enhance the effect of cloak of flame with the heatproofing notable. At least the unique itself is pretty affordable and common enough, that you might have already had it drop for you. I would definitely look into it. Currently one of the best ways to mitigate damage since armour is garbage. Unless of course ggg decides to change armour so it's less trash.
