Can't replace this one by any version for me. Korean and Japanese version is my fav so far. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of trying to be 'politically correct' and demanding for "non-toxic contents" while watching movies/series. So, as a lover of creative freedom, I enjoyed this thoroughly.
The Japanese version is the best one - the casting was brilliant, it was just the right amount of over the top, the soundtrack was amazing, costuming felt authentic to the personages, every single character was iconic, especially Makino, her family, and F4. Jun Matsumoto IS the only true Tsukusa Domyoji.
I think every version captures your heart in a different way, also each version has its own countries flavor and culture so it's kind of useless to compare, we might have a version we enjoyed the most, or bring more nostalgia, but all of them are fantastic.
I think its been a while since I watch this, but im literally forgetting almost half of the drama. How complicated are the drama with the love story, and more character are introduced. I think thats how who I am, thats why I prefer short series drama because how forgetful I am. But, I really love this show despite having heavy second lead sydrome. Many people had watched all the versions.. And liked some or all of it.. But the fact that the south korean version of it brought the whole hallyu wave into existence and kdrama has gone global is surreal.. Personal Preference - knew about bof (sk) since 2009 and loved the characters but watched the drama in 2017 after watching some other dramas (first ever) (started watching kdrama in 2017) Liked it but felt like it was extended too much. Became a die hard fan of lee minho before watching bof (in lotbs), but didn't like him much in bof.. And the thai version - waited for so long after being die hard brightwin fan since 2gether, Loved the drama.. One can really see the similarities of the characters in bof sk and bof thai.. Bright literally reminded me of Lee minho in bof But korean one will always be classic, after all kdramas have a different vibe to them.. Which no one can replace which makes them leading the industry.
In BOF Jihoo (Kim Hyun Joong) gets the 2nd lead syndrome he was more popular back then than LeeMinHoo. Until City Hunter came. I became a fan of LMH since City Hunter until now
I started watching Kdrama in quarantine and Boys over flowers was my second one, I have watched many Kdrama and now I can understand some Korean so I came back here after a long time and it feels nice to understand what they are saying other than reading subs solely

It’s so funny to see people saying other vers that they like best were the “classic” meanwhile the original was the real classic. Meteor Garden (2001-2002) Taiwan ver was still the best, although BBF also massively popular.
There is Thai, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese version if F4. Seen them all and my fav is Chinese. My list would be 1 Chinese 2 Taiwanese 3 Korean 4 Japanese and 5 Thailand. They are all diffrent with thier own nations dramaturgi. They have diffrent names as well. The original is Taiwanese.
And this along with with Brilliant Legacy is how I got into Kdrama world haha. Classic. I watched the other versions. 1. Chinese version meteor garden (the best. Plot wasn't too fast or too slow and there was no ridiculous bullying. The story line was just so believable and not so fake. I loved how we got to see the development in the relationship between Shancai and Daoming si). 2.Korean version Boys over flowers (it was more comical compared to MG. I laughed more, but the main leads weren't as intimate compared to MG. Also JanDi's character was so annoying the way it seemed that Jun Pyo cared more for her than she did for him. At some points their relationship really felt scripted.) 3. Thailand version F4 Thailand ( there were some scenes that were really made well, like the excuse the hacking guy had to get revenge on Thyme through Gorya. But they practically summarised the story and left out the essence. We didn't get to see Thyme and Gorya's relationship develop. Everything was so rushed. They tried fitting such a story into 16 episodes. And Thyme and Gorya weren't even that intimate. Although the actors did a good job conveying the emotions, the way the plot was moving, it was just ridiculous. The worst part was how as soon as we thought the main leads would get some time to see their relationship develop, something crazy would happen. And the bullying? Dang. They almost killed that girl. The bullying in BOF and F4 Thailand was crazy. Otherwise the f4 thai version had so much potential. I didn't even watch it to the end because i was so disappointed). 4. Japanese version Hana Yori Dango (it was kind of comical too. It felt more like I was watching anime haha. Not my favorite. I couldn't watch past the first few episodes lol. But it was really funny if anyone wants to watch it. Just not my favorite at all) 5. The Taiwanese version (meeh. I tried watching the first episode and it wasn't cutting it. I think it was uploaded in bad quality though. But I'd like to maybe try and watch it)
