    A national anthem is a big part of a country's identity - it unites its people into one tune, one common sense of belonging and brotherhood. While every national anthem does that, the specifics about which emotion it uses to stir partriotism, what kind of emotion it uses and what words it picks are all dependent on a country's history and macro-psychology.
    In this video, I re-create a project by Lucas de Sa where I use K-Means clustering, an unsupervised learning algorithm to automatically classify all the national anthems of the world into five different groups.
    In the process we go through the alleys of data science, psychology and music - a cocktail of the many topics of interest you will find on India in Pixels.

      Not just Bengalis, almost all types of Indians
      The thing that strikes me the most is attachment of BDeshis to their pre-islamic roots. While praising Motherland is a strict no no in Islam, BDshis have clinged on to this tradition. In this aspect, they are a lot liberal and sympathetic than Pakistanis, a fact I admire among them.

    • @altair738
      @altair738 2 года назад +9

      Not really accurate. The current French anthem was indeed written in a revolutionary and anti-monarchy setting, but it's main "target", if you will, are the invading foreign armies following the fall of the monarchy (qu'un sang impur abreuve nos sillons...). Freedom features heavily in the anthem (liberté, liberté cherie, combats avec tes défenseurs...), but nothing about rights. It is definitely not about the fight at the Bastille - it's more of a rallying cry for troops against the invading Austrians (and Prussians).

    The clustering issue probably arose from the tf-idf technique. You see the term frequency (tf) is exactly what you said it is, but the inverse document frequency (idf) prioritizes rare words over common ones. Hence some anthems that had more rare words probably got a higher score. But since you were clustering only on the basis of similarity of anthems, the unique words made the anthems similar for clusters, when they weren’t.

    Indian national anthem is definitely praising god. Actually we've just adopted first stanza. You should definitely listen whole song , you would definitely get tears and goosebumps.
    Fun fact: some states have there own state anthems. As I'm from Andhra Pradesh our State anthem is " maa telugu talliki mallepoodanda"
    Means jasmine garland to our beloved mother telugu.( Here maa is not mother maa is "our" in telugu and talli is mother.) It would definitely come under motherly nature catagory. It Praises mother telugu , her land and rivers. It praises about our ancient queen and poets. And a promise we made to her.
