The argos catalogue, anytime the birthday or Christmas was coming around you'd be circling the numbers or writing them on a separate sheet of paper 😅 miss those days
My mum used to make out that we'd have to remortgage the house to buy billy bear ham, it's only about £1.20 now. I highly doubt it was expensive back in the day
so true, i remember every year it would be a big deal to walk past argos and get a new one for your christmas list but never getting anything that was in that book
Yeah, I remember my mum telling me to circle off what I want and she'll see what she can get for my birthday or Christmas as a wish list sorta thing. Well, I grew up in a deprived town, so she would give a neighbour quarter of the price for the stuff he nicked. 😂😂😂
6:45 we watched one in year 1 but it was about a boy who played football but couldn't anymore because he crossed the road on a corner of something. As a six year old it genuinely scared me😂
Me and my brother were always given the Argos catalogue near Christmas when we were younger, and we would just circle everything we thought we would like. I found one of the old catalogues not that long ago and almost every page had at least 1 circle on it
Oh god Billy Bear! I used to work at Tesco on the deli counter and they came in a big solid slab that looked like a huge sausage and we had to put it on one of those meat slicers and slice it into the individual slices that were sold. Then you’d get the weird end where the sausage was misshapen and the absolute dragged out melted faces looked like something out of a horror film and we’d still sell them! Must have traumatised some kids for life!!
It's the Smyth's toy superstore catalogue now, not quite the same as the argos one but me and my kids still get excited when the Christmas one is delivered.
I was very shy, so it was horror to ever break a pencil point and have to sharpen it. Why did the teacher always put it at the front of the classroom? And you could never determine a wind too far and just break it. I'd always try to do about 5 at lunch or recess and keep them on reserve so I wouldn't have to stand up in front of everyone and make all that noise. I'm 56, so I remember these. I'm also really clumsy so I was always afraid of tripping or getting tripped or the kids making fun of my Forest Gump braces the first few years before I just wore special shoes.
I’m a 20 year old American and I remember hearing about Raoul Moat as a child and hiding as if he’d find me because I hadn’t yet realized how big the world really is. I strategized places to hide and everything. Those skills really came in hand when a kid came to my high school with a gun. 💀😶
the bear was legit, you never asked for it, didn't know what it was but you always had it because mum knew you would love it. I want it still for memories but probably wont taste the same as we''re older.
Ngl I would stay in my uniform until bed time if I'm remembering it right 😂 I remember finding it funny how most of my friends had that need to change immediately, even if my skirt or trousers where too uncomfortable I'd literally just put PJ bottoms on and keep my school shirt on🤣 you've just unlocked a memory for me there, I was such a freak lol cause I could never do that now
7:33 the one i always remember is where the world pauses and they get out the car and he says he doesnt have time to slow down but the dude has a kid in his car he says his sry then they get back in the car and crash
I never knew about sparkys knew club as a kid, but my younger brother absolutely loves it and wouldn't stop talking about it for days after his holiday 😂
I took my kids to haven before we moved to Japan. It was like a giant piss up for adults and the kids were left to roam just asking their parents for money.
Omg I got so upset when they got rid of the bear (can’t remember his name.) and changed it for jazzy his niece. (yapping about haven) 😭✋ HE WAS AN ICON.
The Argos catalogue hits so different, so sad they got rid of it, I remember typing in the product numbers into the machines to see how many of the items they have in stock in the store and the little pencils 😂😂
You were posh/rich if you went to centre parks. My mum used to get the vouchers from the sun newspapers each week for the sun holidays and save them up just to take us on a haven holiday.
As someone who currently works in a secondary school in Scotland, we have pencil sharpeners like that in every. single. classroom. My previous job was also at a Haven. I didn't experience either as a kid, but I'm apparently checking them off in my 20s. Better late than never ig? 🥴
I’ve left school last year and everyone is at college I dropped out because mentally I was not ready and going through a rough patch it is such an awkward situation like what do I do today when everyone else around me seems to be thriving
No joke those safety videos they showed us has left me with life long anxiety and fucked up my childhood, still recovering to this day 🤣🤣🤣 If i dont laugh I'll cry
As a kid, between the age of 8-12, I lived in Berlin on a forces base (86-90). During the cold War and height of IRA bombing campaign. We had 2 English language channels available to us. SSVC (British forces TV) and AFN (American Forces Network). The other channels were German or French. AFN had ads every 5mins...soooo annoying. But some of the best TV. SSVC only had Public Service Broadcasts about remembering to check under your car for suspicious devices or... Daddy goes boom in front of his family😱 We'd be rudely awakened every so many months at 3 with the nuclear alarm and tanoy system blaring "exercise Rocking Horse! Exercise Rocking Horse! All personnel report to duty." that would go on for hour. My dad would grab his kit and go on exercise for 3 days. The rest of the base would carry on. If you call men in full kit, rifles, setting up cordens, barricades, sniper points as if we were under attack. We just had to ignore it. 😂
HAVEN HOLIDAYS! One of my fave things about having a sister who is 15yrs younger than me is that we have the excuse to go to haven parks again. Growing up the summer trip to haggerston castle was the highlight of the year. We go to seton sands near edinburgh now cause we dont have a car to travel as far but its just as good. Only thing thats upsetting is they rebranded the animal characters and they suck now 😔
Wait did anyone else ever go on one of those free sun holidays from the paper? Cause we did one year and we went to this run down caravan park that was next to a sewage plant it was so dire 😂
I'm in Bristol and the Raul Moat story is one of my favorites, one of my friends who lives in Northumberland was interviewed by Sky when it was going on. I believe Gazza had a fishing rod and KFC when he turned up.
Alr but the Brian meme, i agree so much. you always think that names are normal when you hear them but looking back you see how out of pocket the names were as you were a baby. for example: David. Baby David. i get an old man being called that but who looks at a kid and goes "Youre the new david in the family.deal with it."
Aagh Billy Bear caused so many arguments between me and my mum. My husband and I decided to go vegetarian because of all of the food scares (BSE, salmonella, swine flu) and we couldn't afford organic meat. Whenever my mum babysat she would give my kids meat especially this processed crap. She never respected my reasons for not giving them this stuff so we stopped leaving them with her and my dad. (And yes I did try giving the kids a packed lunch but she took it away and gave them "real food" as she called it)
There are still things similar to the coco pops straws, especially if you look in Asian shops. I think the Asian shops that I sometimes go in have at least about three different similar products…
Don’t worry my car also had windy windows in the back! 😂 I love them tbf the nostalgia is just great! It’s not even that old it’s a 15 plate! My backseat passenger (the dog) doesn’t seem to have any issues with it either 😅
Cam, if you think the 'Dress Bright at Night' ads were scary, you should have a look at 1970's Public Information Films. There was drowning, electrocution, road accidents, stranger danger, 'stop that thief', even slipping over on a mat that was placed on a polished floor. Don't even get me started on AIDS awareness adverts from the 1980's, 'Don't die of ignorance'. Personally, I think we should bring them all back! I'm still alive at 60 so that's proof enough that terrifying young kids does actually benefit them in the end! Well, maybe. Love and peace.
Paused the video halfway through to say this, I still tidy my room and afterwards walk through it like I'm stacey solomon or something like "yh I did that" and then I'll tell me mum and sisters like "Did ya see my room?", "It's unrecgonisable ain't it??" 🤣and they're just like "did ya open yr curtains?" - "are ya still living in a bat cave?" - like thanks guys, I only spent 2 hours on this! 😂🙄

Was Billy Bear Meat actually nice? I feel like I’d never eat it now..
As a kid it slaps but it is just honey roast ham
ReaL
It’s the same smell as the pink luncheon roll if you know it but yeah it’s all the crappy meat leftovers squished together
Ngl it's still delicious. Idk why but it's been my biggest pregnancy craving this time round
Eww no its disgusting cam😂x
The argos catalogue, anytime the birthday or Christmas was coming around you'd be circling the numbers or writing them on a separate sheet of paper 😅 miss those days

@@Izzy-vz5ut just double checked and yea they don't print hard copies of the argos catalogue anymore
