While I am familiar with the Aberfan Disaster, as wells as many other people here, something that I've been trying to remember was this: precognitive/prenominal dreams. These are a mystery in themselves and having it be incorporated in this story is what makes it a fascinating tale.
@@lukechristmas3951 Indeed, and even creepier when you remember there was a detail of a girl who perished in the Aberfan disaster who had a dream of "a monster that ate her school."
A story set after the events of Put Upon Percy and James and the Trouble with Trees. The mysterious phenomenon of this story is rather eerie. Wonderful story!
I never thought i see the day on hearing a story that took place after percy's put upon. this story somehow has a small connection to a disaster that actually happened in aberfan in 1966, the coal mines that sodor once have and appeared in season 5 makes the story even more grim and dark. an adaptation of tipping over would be rarely possible, unless someone creates a complete set or route of the season 5 coal mines from scratch. this was a great 4th installment of tales from the scrap sidings, can't wait to hear the next story installments for next year. 🙂👍
I might do a capsule plarail adaptation one day The models are small and simple, so making sets shouldn't be too complicated. And it means the sets could be small and easy to set up Not promoting myself just saying I might do my own adaptation of tipping over at some point using simple small models
Something similar happened here in Brazil. The Brumadinho dam collapse. Where a big den with iron ore waste mixed with water collapsed. Taking everything, even the railroad, along with it. A lot of people are still missing. Recently, the wreckage of a locomotive was found at the remains of the raging water and iron ore.
This felt like a story that would fit in quite nicely in season 5. Since that season had a number of episodes with natural disasters. I'll be honest I first thought this was gonna play out in a similar way to Rusty and The Boulder with something supernatural causing the mine to collapse and then closed. I have a feeling those dreams Thomas had were like premonitions of what was to come as the story progressed.
I knew it this story was inspired by that tragedy especially the premonition part because 2 kids Paul Davies and Eryl Mai Jones had separate premonitions of the Aberfan disaster but despite that they unfortunately found themselves among the victims
I love the idea of the coal being used as tool for this halloween story, i've never seen someone doing that, excellent job tesla, keep up the good work.
I love this! The writing and audio of Thomas’ dreams and the actually collapse of the tip was impressive! The fact that this is actually based on an actual incident (the Aberfan Disaster) makes this feel very grounded and… sad. This is a really good story! And honestly, if we can get one really great story instead of three or four pretty good stories, I’d be happy with that arrangement! Keep up the great work!
Well this story is something. Something indeed. Thomas was right on suspecting something wrong with the tip here. Who knew that another incident happens at kinda the same mines or another part of the mines from Put Upon Percy. What a story indeed. Well done on this one. Along with everyone else involved here. Such a sad shame this is the only story you'll release this year, but you have your reasons. We hope you'll take care of those reasons on your end and be alright.
For the first one of the Halloween time it was really good, not that scary at the first half, but then it turned dark in the end, five workers lost there lives, but still a vary interesting story, in the lest I give a perfect 10 stars
You really outdid yourself with this story. With a mountain of waste rock that big was sure to spell disaster. When it happened, I was sure there would be casualties. You've left me speechless this time. Bravo 22Tesla, bravo. 👍👏😮
Jeez...now _that_ was grim. Seeing the more severe real life incidents adapted or played straight, compared to the more "tame" ones Awdry would do makes them seem oddly surreal in a way. Knowing it _can_ happen, but not expecting it to, because why would it?
this gave me chills, while not a ghost story the realistic approach makes it all the more chilling. Also I like who this is a follow up to put upon Percy, which is one of my favorite episodes from season 5. can't wait to see what you cook up next year
Could you think of an idea for misty island and how it ended up an abandoned ghost town? And have Ferdinand be the one to warn an engine about the reason or reasons why they shouldn't be so disrespectful towards the town. And sir topham hatt wants to make it a tourist destination for a country side vacation but didn't since he experienced the supernatural side and was the first one to learn the truth. I'm thinking either James, diesel or a visiting engine like bowler, spamcan, or an OC of yours decided to ignore his warning and find out why theirs nobody living on misty island anymore.
I have a feeling this was based loosely on the tragic events of the Aberfane Mining Disaster, am I right? This was a very realistic spooky story, not based around anything supernatural, but on paranoia. Paranoia can really play havoc on any person's mind, as seen here with Thomas' nightmares before the eventual disaster itself. Very nicely done here Tesla, I hope there will be more stories from the scrap sidings to be told this year!
Amazing start to Tales from the Scrap Siding 4! I know it wasn't specifically stated, but I think Thomas was having premonitions. I mean I think we all know that's what it was right? Maybe I just like to think you went from Twilight Zone to Final Destination lol. Either way, absolute BANGER story
Once again Tesla, you’ve knocked it out of the park with this one. These are my favourite kinds of scary stories: nothing supernatural, just pure atmosphere and terror
When STH opens one new area on an acre of land, nature talks back to him and the engines w/ destruction as a reminder. Clever way of interweaving the events of Put Upon and Trouble w/ Trees except w/ Thomas working at the coal mines for a short period of time. Poor engine.
Stories like this make me wonder about a Thomas story based on the Hixon rail crash, Harrow and Wealdstone, Quintinshill or even something like the Lac Megantic disaster
It's too bad I didn't get my voice roll but I hope this is scarier than Screams On The Mountain after the first time watching that I got the creeps for a few days never be around Devil's Back at night
Yes I was thinking of something like that, but don’t you think it might be sadder than the boulder quarry or the old lead mine that has haunted tales that are around, and what does the barren mean by that
Wait, do you think "A Surprise for Percy" occurred before "Put Upon Percy"? After all Percy's fear of mines really only makes sense after the latter episode. And you said the mine was closed later. I think this story could have replaced "Thomas and the Magic Railroad". Jesus Christ loves you. God bless mate
@@oliverhood1732 Well we'll see, given there is going to one story this year, rather than 5-6. They may not even be telling their stories in a location this year... Maybe

The fact that the final shot is of “The Barrens” and the danger sign being one of the few things to have survived the landslide is haunting

Absolutely smashed it!! Thank you so far for letting me narrate the one story this year! Everyone was amazing!!
Peak has returned
Guess that would explain why we never saw that village over by the mines after Season 5...
I see this as being inspired by the Aberfan disaster of 1966, a horrific and unfortunately all-too-real disaster caused by coal waste subsidence.
I knew I heard about a disaster similar to this. I just could remember the name.
You know a lot of folks still blame the coal board for what happened in aberfan. Including myself.
