A little story about Marc Gasol: When I was nine years old I went to my first ever Grizzlies game. I had no clue what was going on because I didn't know basketball too much and it was still very new to me. During halftime though, the Grizzlies were walking to the locker room and I was in one of the stands close to their entrance. Marc Gasol gave me a fist bump through the stands out of all the other players who were there. Looking back on it almost 10 years later, I see that Marc actually cares about his fans and that Memphis will be his forever home. Great video by the way! Absolutely killed it!
Marc Gasol is BY FAR the best player in Grizzlies franchise history, although I’m still puzzled as to how he could have won Defensive Player of the Year in 2012-13 if he didn’t make First Team All Defense.
Marc Gasol is one of the most underrated centers of this decade, definetely deserved all of his awards! Much respect for him because he was humble all time in his career!
@Nicholas Davis I guess if you are a lower tier team relevancy counts for something. Maybe those Memphis teams would have been better with Pau. Marc was a better rim defender but Pau was a better overall player. Regardless it was a huge win for the Lakers(there is no way you can convince me that Marc fills Pau's shoes in the 2010 Finals)and at best it turned out to be a push for Memphis. I don't think so but there is a argument to be made.
The Gasol trade was evaluated terribly by the NBA press, mostly due to lack of knowledge about the ACB at that time. While during the previous year Marc had been a pretty average player, and was selected in the second round of the draft, the year of the trade he was playing at a level that the ACB hadn't seen since Sabonis. If he had been drafted that year, he would have been a mid to high lottery pick.
Marc is a great team defence leader, too. He can lock up in the paint as an individual, but he's great at taking command and direct his team defensively. As for passing, I still remember when they first made the trade. They were a game or two in and Lowry passed to Gasol. Gasol gave it back to him and Lowry was so thrown off he almost lost the ball lmao! You could tell he wasn't used to the big man passing back hahaha
They have the potential to bring it back with the young core that they have today. I maybe a Lakers fan but I'm not one of those that blame some player for losing, except that time Lebron choked and missed 2 free throws last season against the Spurs and for ruining for what could have been a great young core in the league by joining. They may be in the Finals but they did what the Cavs did when he came back and stopped the rebuild by trading mostly everyone just to win a ring. Only team that didn't do that was the Heat since they had the pieces. It could be nice to see how a Kobe, Pau and Marc tandem would have performed if we played our cards right instead of floundering like Kupchak did. Not that pissed about not getting CP3, just pissed how the team went after the 2012-2013 season and now since I was hoping to see how the core would turn out to be.
Yeah and Z-Bo was one reason that Marc’s rebounding numbers weren’t higher. Neither one of them could jump but they knew how to box out and eat space 🍔🍗

Yeah meant to type that. You know the Grizzlies actually had 900-1 title odds that season, the 5th highest in the league. They had a phenomenal young core of Pau Gasol, Jason Williams, Mike Miller, James Posey, Shane Battier, Bonzi Wells, Earl Watson. Then after that season they made a disastrous trade with Miami trading Jason Williams and James Posey for an aging Eddie Jones. Posey and Williams became key pieces to that 2006 Heat championship team, and Jones lasted a year and half with the Grizzlies before they were soon one of the worst teams in the league.
if we're talking about great players who were throw-ins in trades, how about when the Bucks got Khris Middleton from the Pistons to make the Brandon Knight for Brandon Jennings trade work under the salary cap.

Marc was a major key player for the Raptors winning it all last year. Offensively in the playoffs he was brutal and I felt like I was gonna have an aneurysm watching him, but on the defensive side he led the team. If you watch him closely on defence you can see he's directing the rest of the team. Kawhi is a great individual defender, but I think the Raptors defense was really beefed up by the addition of Gasol. And as much as I love JV, he struggled against Embiid a lot. Without Gasol keeping Embiid in check, I don't think the Raptors would've made it past round 2.
He is a hall of fame player. An nba title, a world championship, greatest grizzly, multiple All NBA, multiple all stars and DPOY is too complete of a resume to be passed on
I remember this trade. At the time, most people were thinking how lopsided that trade was. Looking back now, it wasn’t as lopsided as we all thought. Marc Gasol turned out to be a great player. Both Gasol brothers were underrated players.
Marc Gasol will be HOF for sure, as a NBA Champ, DPOY, All Star, Euroleague champion, EuroBasket champion, World Cup champion, Olympic sliver and bronze medals, Spanish champion,.....
As spanish i allways like Marc and i think the video resumes pretty well why i like him. He is a very smart player that makes impact on a deeper level than more flashy players in the league. When you get to recognice that makes you like more the game and it become more of a team game than a iso one
He will be hella underrated, he was a slightly less consistent / aggressive Jokic with similar passing and shooting skills. He's the perfect player for the modern game
I have heard Marc was good back then, he can be a good backup atm to Bynum and not kwame brown. I was bummed he was included in the trade, like oh well there goes some future since they were trading for Pau. funny, Pop really lost in this trade, his teams got knocked out by the Lakers and Grizzlies, and the lakers got 2 titles and Spurs only 1 title after the trade.
As a Raptors fan watching Marc's playoff games last year, his 3 pointers, although not lights-out shooting, were enough to keep the opponents honest and can't leave him wide open. His defence is not as flashy, as Ibaka's blocks, but essential in the overall team defence. Not to mention he overplayed Embiid!
Another thing to consider and this is once mentioned by Doug Collins during the TNT broadcast of the 2010 NBA All-Star Game is that this Pau Gasol trade for his brother Marc and other throw-ins basically create enough space and use it to bring in Zach Randolph.
I've been a big fan of the channel but after this video my support is even higher(if possible). Stats are not all it counts,MG is the example. Share this with love!
Marc is winning material, he knows everything have to do for helping the team to win and he is a fighter, very fun to watch him play sad his career is finishing
And that's another example of why NBA teams have to look up in big FIBA tournaments. In 2006 world FIBA championship, Pau Gasol got injured in the semifinals against Argentina, Marc came to save the day in the finals game, completely cancelling the big man from Greece, Sofoklis Schortsanitis, who destroyed USA team in the semifinals. And here, Marc was not supposed to be either in the Spain team, he had only 21 years and he was completely out of weight, but it was a perfect example of what it is said in this video.
Please do a top 10 best list for each of the major stat categories, as in points (purely scoring) , assists , rebounding , steals and blocks. I mean more of a pure abillity of that category, not just the player's career numbers but overall ability, for example carmelo anthony in getting points from how easy he can get points because of his size , athleticism and ability.

Raptors fan here... love the breakdown! Especially the last part about finding his niche in a changing league!
Great vid man keep em coming
I like your background music. It's so relaxing and you're the only one I know who uses it in their videos. Do you ever live stream?
Great to see that someone has given my boy Marc some needed love.
Another thing to consider and this is once mentioned by Doug Collins during the TNT broadcast of the 2010 NBA All-Star Game is that this Pau Gasol trade for his brother Marc and other throw-ins basically create enough space and use it to bring in Zach Randolph.
Plus, he developed a great 3 point shot, adapted to the changes... love watching him play!!
Without Marc the Raps championship run looks a lot different. Who’s stopping Vuc, Embiid, Giannis?
Great video, Andy!
Fun fact: He became Defensive Player of the Year and a member of 2nd All-Defensive Team on the SAME SEASON.
Let be guess you a salty lebron fan?
Felicidades Marc! Thanks for being in the NBA all these years.
I've been a big fan of the channel but after this video my support is even higher(if possible). Stats are not all it counts,MG is the example.
Two times world champion with Spain, may I add!
Fun fact: Kyle and Marc were briefly teammates during their time on the Grizzlies
Marc is winning material, he knows everything have to do for helping the team to win and he is a fighter, very fun to watch him play sad his career is finishing
Marc, one of my fave players!!
Great video.... stuff that really impacted the game
Gasol was one of the main contributors to the Raptors championship run. His defensive presence sets the tone for the team
Only RUclipsr to make anything on the grizzlies pre-Ja
Both of them can do it all I wish they could had played together Marc at C, Pau at PF
