just got a 7 seater model y. My 6 yr old daughter always wants to be at the back seat. We just love it!!!

Not hugely practical but its cool to see a 7 seater option packed into a vehicle this small. I think its fair to say it's the "shrimpy row" for people below 5'10"
I sat in one at the dealer and I'm 5'10. You'd probably have to be about 5'7 and under.
Thank you very much for posting the accident photos on the Y where the rear of the car were pretty much destroyed. We were thinking about getting the 7 seater so we can put our little one in the back. This is NOT going to happen now. Thanks again for making this helpful video!
There's also a video of a rear ender accident from a Semi where the Model Y survived quite well. Doesn't matter how safe your car is; high speeds will do extreme damage. Safest cars on the road.
just get a model x if you want 7 seats.
I have it since September. Usually 3rd row is down. Have two kids 8-5. Only use it with my oldest kid when we have an extra passenger. maybe a handful of times. It works for us. Can't put car seats in third row safely because there is no anchor to hook carseat. Our booster works though. Love the car.. Nice to have the option of third row if needed. Thanks for all the videos!

You can recline the middle seats in the 7-seater. While sitting, pull on the recline lever/handle on the side cushion and push back.

Can we recline both 5 seater and 7 sweaters middle seats to the same extent? Or does 5 recline a bit more...
According to a user on TMC: “To recline the 2nd row, you use the handle on the side of the seat pad. It’s not like the 5 seater recline controls.”
Also you can create more leg room for the 3rd row. Just adjust the position forward and backwards with a bar under the front of the 2nd row seat.

Watching this as a big family dad I noticed some things..
Firstly.. you tried to sit in there as a six foot plus guy… the third seating row in most cars I’ve had isn’t made for that.. that’s where you put the kids.
Secondly, a child seat is normally on the middle row.. it’s diagonally behind the driver in moms car and beyond the driver in dads car. The baby is there where mom can see it and intervene if needed..
Other than that, thanks for your review.. I was curious about the 7 seater Tesla. You provided some answers.
You can recline the second row seats with the button you use to fold it flat. Just lean back with that same button.
My kids love it back there. They can't see over the back seat so they feel like they are in their private fort kinda.

Wish you had shown us the 5 seater trunk when you mentioned it! You showed the 7 seater trunk, and yet you had a 5 seater car right next to you. Not many people have the luxary of having two model Y's and the energy to do a video. Thanks for a great video. I ordered a MY7 in Feb, delivery in April out of Austin.

Thanks so much for the video. Very informative and funny!! As Grand parents we were looking at the 7 seater Model Y for out Grand Kids. I think for two of our 3 grand kids it would be fine as others have stated (4 - 3 and 2 year olds). But not really for any adults. But for $3,000 it was not what I was hoping for.

This video breaks my heart because I have been waiting 3 months for a stupid Honda Sienna (and receive all these lies and attempted robberies from all dealers) and I finally got tired of all this and I was filling out the application for the 7 seater (I have a new born and a 3 years old boy) because we use 2 car seats thanks god I found your video. Now I have to wait a little bit longer maybe 5 or 6 months until “the fall of car prices”.
Tesla should really redesign the tesla model y for 2023

I think u can tell from the spoiler design on the back of the 7 seater,it is different from the 5 seater spolier
I got my MY 7 seater in February 2023 and I must say I was really disappointed in how they squeezed in the third row. The way it was marketed was that it could fit a “short person” not adding that it’ll affect the amount of leg room on the second row sit to also only fit only a short person. However, looking at the bright side it has served a good purpose for my 3 years under 3 kids (2 y/o and 1 y/o twins). So I’ll recommend that it works best for kids. And thanks so much for the video. I just wished I saw this before I ordered the 7 seater.

My 11 yr old is 5'3". I wouldn't put my child back there to die. Amazing the gov't hasn't stepped in and stopped this stupidity.
These 5+2 seaters aren't designed for adults, they are specifically designed for kids..
The back seems dangerous they need to change the coupe roofline to a more boxy SUV shape

Kids do love their private secluded place in the third row seats 😂 we adult hate it.
It’s worth noting as well that the child seat you put in there is the Diono brand which is one of the slimmest child’s seats on the market. I used them in my VW GTI because they are much more practical. But again, very slim profile so keep that in mind.
Awesome! This was exactly what I wanted to know. We have 2 kids and my wife is 4'11" ish so she'll fit in the back with no problem. My 12 y/o is now taller than her and we have 1 still in a car seat. But I think this will work for me until they start making the Cybertruck! Thanks for the comprehensive review.

I just ordered my 7 seater few days ago, but I have noticed that it can be dangerous whoever seat there if it would occur an accident. 😅

7 seats on this looks impractical. Looks like more of a novelty than actually being useful. You might be able to fit a small child in that 7th seat, but that's about it.
I don't know why Tesla just couldn't make the Model Y a little longer to accommodate the 7th seat.

it is a bad idea to make a 5 seater size car into a 7 seater..Tesla just needs to add extra 1 foot to make it a 7 seater

Seems like the main drawbacks are (1) the inability to recline the second row seats, (2) only one compartment beneath the trunk instead of two, and (3) less energy efficient because of the additional weight. The trunk space - which I thought would be the biggest drawback - is not that different because you can always fold down the 3rd row of seats and have a trunk that is close to the same size.
I was always curious what the 7 seater is like. Thank you for your review. As much as I love Tesla, I think I need to look for other options. My American Akita babies are getting big and I need a bigger room for them. You're so funny by the way!

Glad I found this video. The only way I could get my 7-year-old to part with the M3 he has known since he was 3 was to let him pick the color (red) and have the third row. He just thinks it's cool. So I just wanted to see something like exactly what you show in this video. Your commentary is a bonus. Pretty much useless $2,500 I'm spending. Oh well, somebody's happy. Picking it up today.

My dad has the 7 seater and like whenever I sit back there I have no space for my feet and it’s squished also in the trunk we literally have no space and there is a frunk which is a trunk in the front of the car but there’s also barely any space there
Maybe recommend a hitch rack rather than a roof rack for better aerodynamics.
that stroller can fit in the trunk but you weren’t putting it in the right way. Regardless, the trunk space is very small. Reminds me of the trunk space I had in my Pontiac fiero in the early 90’s… I think it could fit one golf bag, definitely not my hockey bag
Thanks for the review but seems I still not in the position to replace my Chevy Traverse to a model Y. We take 2-3 times round trips from IL to FL with 5 + luggage. Hopefully There will be a real 7 seater EV SUV in the market soon.

O, man, the carseats made a permanent crease in the headrests! About having kids: We only exist because: we were born.
Also in the truck flip the cover to the other side to make it deeper too.
All you did was complain. The 3rd row isn’t designed for you, but perfect for shorter people and kids. I would guess most of the time there is 7 people in the car there are two people shorter than 5’5”
I'm assuming the 7 seater rear braces will have more re enforce crash protection same as the Model S rear facing seats configuration.

Bro there is a difference between a booster seat (for toddler) and a car seat (for baby), what you have there is a booster seat, a car seat can definitely not fit back there plus there is no anchor for it.

Good overview Chris. One thing that I noticed and feel a little deceived by Tesla is that the 7 seater can offer more legroom, in the 2nd row, when not using the 3 row. When we went to the Tesla showroom with the entire family and packed in the Model 3 and then the Model Y, we were amazed at how much legroom my 5'11" tall teenager had, in the 2nd row, behind the front seat that was all the way back. We were sold on the Model Y. We asked the Tesla rep if the only difference was the omission of the 3rd row between the 5 and 7-seater. She said yes. Well, the 7-seater 2nd row can move back and forth, but the 5 can't. My 4-year-old can barely squeeze between the front seats, all the way back, and the back seats on the 5-seat MY we bought. The situation is only going to get worse as he grows. My wife is pissed that we didn't order the 7-seat version especially based on the advice of the Tesla rep.
If it’s that hard to move your body and lift seats you need to work on some stretches and lift some weights.

Hi @mmfeldman729. I have a feeling this review was overly negative because the RUclips algorithm rewards negativity. That row is obviously for kids, and so most of his review doesn't apply to 6'3" or even 5'3" adults. Curious -- how do you like yours?
There is no room whatsoever in a 7 seater too crowded. The 5 seater is just perfect.

I wouldn’t get the 7 seater cuz I don’t need it. However, I think you should get it for your dogs. It keeps the second row cleaner and no dog hair for your human passengers. Plus you won’t have to worry about dogs drooling on the front row seats. Just make sure you get the rare window ceramic tinted if you do.

what's the point of getting a 7 seater if no human can fit in it comfortably? only little babies can sit comfortably and why would you seat the baby there given a rear end will make them become a human pancake?
I tested the 3rd row last year and I found that the sliding track of the second row on the floor was dangerously exposed. If I had my foot in the wrong spot and somebody tried to move the 2nd row seat backwards, it could crush my feet. Does anyone with the 3rd row share this concern?
Same thing with every van I've ever owned or been in. Same issue in our Town and Country van. Almost had my foot crushed in the second row by the driver.
