Rachael Talibart has been one of my inspirations for years. When we bumped into each other on Iceland back in September and I heard she was bringing out a new ultra deluxe photo book I suggested we get together for a great chat, and we did.

We have a close friend with exceptional culinary skills who refuses to cook professionally. Why? Because she may lose her passion and creativity. So many great lessons on the why of photography and what motivates us in this absorbing discussion. A great video.
Very true, it is a juggling act, but with time we find the way to keep the passion and the love
Great that you interviewed Rachel. Some fantastic wave shots.
Yes, she’s a master
Alister, Rachel, Absolutely fantastic listen. I couldn't describe it as an interview, it's more too friends having a chat. But the points you raise and nuggets of wisdom you pass on are invaluable.
A very enjoyable conversation. It struck a chord with me when you both spoke about the enthusiasm and excitement you experience from being out taking your images. Thanks for sharing. Richard
I appreciate the great feedback, thank you.
Goosebumps when she describes the experience of taking that photo 7 years ago. Photography in nature = magic. 🧡💛💚
Yes indeed, I shamelessly name her as a huge inspiration of attitude and passion ❤️
I'm surmising that Rachel doesn't shoot with a Sony. My a7R5 threw a fit after its first splash of salt water on the hot shoe - Sonys are infamous for that. I've resorted to duct tape on top.
It's lovely to listen to Rachel Talibart, whose work I utterly adore; she speaks in terms that have me nodding heartily. Her reflections on her earlier work reminds me of Joseph Heller, when someone said to him that he'd never write a book as good as Catch-22. He replied: "So few ever will." That possibly sounds arrogant, but I think it reflect a gratitude for having created something that one can be profoundly proud of, and grateful to whatever powers there be for being the channel for beauty.
The feeling of being part of it, the experience of being there - yes! That's why we are doing what we are doing - that's the big WHY!. We become part of the landscape. What a wonderful conversation Rachel and Alister! And thank you, Alister! ❤ You know the way I photograph is the only way I know how to - from the heart. And I feel very much connected to what Rachel says. I wish we had had a little more time in Iceland. It would have been great to get to know her a bit.
Thanks Astrid, yes, more of us are on this page and taking back ownership of both the experience and the expression. ❤️
@@Alister_Benn Yes, In the end it is the only way that makes sense!
I have been looking forward to this video for a few days and I wasn’t disappointed! It is evident that you have much in common with a shared passion and enthusiasm for taking images which capture a part of who you are. Like Rachael, this for me, only takes place when water (river or sea) is present. Articulate, thoughtful and interesting video. Thank you.
Lovely to hear you both! Thanks for this.
A lot of philosophy, zen thinking facing up to realities and no delusional outlooks going on here a really inspirational and educational hour spent here which you don’t find often on youtube lots of love to you both
Thanks so much, it was a blast for us both and I am glad that came across
I made it to the end of the hour! It was easy when you are listening to Rachael talking in such an authentic and enthusiastic manner. I'll consider myself a superfan then!
Super fan, as I am too ❤️
Wonderful to eavesdrop on a conversation with two amazing and inspiring artists!
Just wonderful. As always. Thank you very much for your work.
Appreciation that, thanks
Thank you both ever so much!
Thanks for your kind comment ❤️
A most enjoyable experience listening to Rachel and yourself, it certainly didn't feel like an hour...Rachel's enthusiasm is addictive...I first heard her with Kim Grant and was so happy to hear this interview as well 🙂, your images are simply wonderful and nothing like I have ever seen before 🙂👍
Thank you so much. I couldn’t believe when I looked at the timer and it been an hour! We could have chatted all day! She’s so cool
Brilliant once again. A true inspiration.Thank you
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it
A delightful way to spend an hour . I wish, that a some point producing an image that actually helps to manifest a feeling in the viewer, would happen for me. Thank you both for this experience.
I’d be surprised if you haven’t already 🙏❤️
What a great conversation! Thank you both.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh yes another episode 😁love these 😌
Thank you for another beautiful episode!
Our pleasure!
Very interesting, love the photography and interesting interview.
Thanks man, she’s an inspiration
Another great chat with Rachael, you can keep the hour long instalments flowing.
I share the love of the sea and though the "Why" is a reasonably common topic her words help fill my "why"
Also your "why" the need to create a book strikes home too, maybe it will be the final nudge for the book I feel I need to do. Then again the prospect of having all but 3 copies left in my possession might be the final hurdle 🤣
Time to look at my copy of Sirens again 👍
Haha! Yes, it’s daunting, but worthwhile.
Thank you Alister and Rachel for this nice talk. I never printed one of my images because I don't have the technical or financial means to do it and perhaps my biggest fear is to be disappointed. I totally agree with you that it is on paper that the images really take their values. An interesting point, Rachel mentioned the name of a great Photographer and you mentioned Astrid's name. I don't know the great photographer but I'm almost sure that there is no difference in quality between the 2. We could mix their photos and no one would see anything, unless it's a completely different kind. How to look at this? How not to be influenced by popularity, the number does not make a truth? A lot of things are happening in my head, I'm going to let the wave pass.😀
Hasselblad x1dii can have open shutter just beyond 1 hour, and that was available 5 years ago already
Great pictures❤ Graet interview. Rachel speaks about artist Megan. Megan who? Last name again please , thank you🙏🏻
Many thanks, Rachael mentions meghannriepenhoff.com
Thank you. Very kind of you getting back🙏🏻
@@karstenjrgensen606 no problem, you’re welcome
Great work guys.
Thanks buddy
Very interesting conversation between you both
Many thanks
The Mystic as Creative Artist
By Evelyn Underhill
From the forward by Jeff Carreira
"As an example of her powers of discrimination, she draws the distinction between magic and mysticism by explaining that the magician wants to use their access to underlined reality for alternative aims, while the mystic, is only driven by an unquenchable thirst for direct contact with the devine."
What a fabulous and beautiful quote
I highly recommend this book!@@Alister_Benn
nice interview alastair, apart from the climate bit just for the record SCIENTIFIC FACT: Man-made CO2 constitutes only 0.1 to 0.2% of atmospheric greenhouse gases. It is an insignificant contributor to global temperature and climate, iv noticed members of the royal art society are all pushing the narative of climate change, if this was true the bank wouldnt give you a morgage anywhere near the seafront as according to scientists we will be under water in 50 years(they claimed this back in the 80s) florida keys is one of the biggest real estates in the world all the rich and famous own property there. anyways dont let your goverment fear monger everyone into giving up there right to travel the more people fall for this hoax the quicker we will become lockdown slaves. apologies for the rant love your work 👍
Oh yes another episode 😁love these 😌
Many thanks
