I have a page from a sheet my grandmother put together of her activities in the summer of 1920. I love it, it’s like a window into her her life I wouldn’t have known or seen.
Nice video, Kay. 😀 Did you know Scotch brand makes self-seal laminating pouches? The reason I say this is they make diff sizes and while I’m not sure how heavy journaling paper is, it might be a nice idea to be able to insert the program into a pouch without marring the back page with tape. Just an idea for possible future use.
Ooh! Gotta look into those! TYSM
I love the idea of a separate memory journal! I always wonder if my family will be tempted to read my journals when I inevitably pass away, and I could see that being quite embarrassing 😬 BUT a distinct memory journal would be nice if people wanted to read about some curated life experiences and memories 💙
Great video Kay! I think making & then knowing when to "let go" most important. I saved the last birthday card my BFF gave me (hand made) in 1997 (she passed in April '98) Saved the last birthday card my Granny gave me (in her shaky handwriting after her last stroke) Saved all cards given to me by my children & now my grands. My son passed October 2020, so these handwritten notes have been my "go to".
I love this! I stick relevant mementos on my actual journals, but now I'm starting to scrapbook more so I'm putting more things on there since it's easier to flip through. And I keep EVERY card! I don't read through them often, but words are my love language so when I'm having a bad day I'll go read a few. And since my loved ones know how much cards mean to me they always write beautiful things 💕
I have one of these from when I was 19-21 years old. I called ot my life book. It's huge but I love going back and reading it. I write text message that moved me during that time, I journalled in it. I added pictures of people I wrote about, and had concert tickets and other scrap paper memories that I just couldn't toss. I didn't know other people made these. I think I'll start a new one for my early 30's!
I’ve always intended to journal but held back because I thought I had to do it in chronological order. Now I just add the memories in as I find them - my things are getting used and organised and it’s lovely going back and looking at them and remembering xx
Such a good idea and I love that you point out it doesn't have to look like a complete work of art. That has intimidated me away from trying such things. Thanks!
I was given an oversized scrapbook with lavender colored pages and a cover with purple flowers in the 1970s. My page construction back then looks a lot like your techniques today, but I adore still looking through those fond memories! Great video, Kay!
This video inspired me to make my own memory journal. My dad loves cards, and sends them for every occasion, but I had no idea what to do with them, so I put them in a box under my bed. It’s nice to have them in the journal now so I can more easily look through them.
Hi there! Actually so many people have been doing this for years in the planner community. They have entire playlists about their process videos and their flip-throughs and their piles and piles of journal archives. I don’t do this much myself because I do traditional journaling instead but I watch a lot of these videos because I find them so fascinating. I’m such a fan of your channel. One of these days I am going to get off my fat butt and actually organize my life! 🤣
has def inspired me! can get a lot of use of all my stamps and washi tapes!
Splendid idea, Kay! Thank you!!
A trick that I have learned (since I keep all photos, tickets, papers, etc) is to work with a binder. Often cards and papers can get bulky and then your notebook can't close properly. With a binder you can get as much space as possible (because you can always buy a larger one) and you can get them with the inside pockets for really bulky items such as programs or books from shows or more detailed and elaborate cards or postcards. I also save envelopes because if you trip the flap/ top off they become instant pockets you can glue to a page to hold items in.
Love this Kay! 💗
I love that you commemorate the happy times. Am hoping there are lots of the Clover pup in there :-) I have a similar book which is spiral bound for some of my paper mementos. I found as it got thicker with the inserts I was saving, it helped to tear out some blank pages to offset the thickness. I found this helps the spiral binding hold together without putting too much stress on the front and back boards. Love as always to you and the Bean :-)
Love the idea of a memory journal.
Kay!! Where was this video when I was in high school and had all those little memories that I stuck in a box where I don't know is at. Or my young adult life where I used to keep concert tix and flight boarding pass stubs! Ugh, now they're lost to idk where. But this is such a great idea!
I needed this in my life I have alllll my greeting cards I even have ones as a baby my mum saved. Since she passed away I do find myself reading my cards looking for hers. I did throw away all my sympathy cards because it made me sad and mad
This is great! I have millions of little this and that. I don’t want to do a full blow out scrapbook. This is it!
What a great idea to keep those specials items! I was just going through all the photos on my phone and the memories kept popping up. While I’m a scrapbooker, I need a more informal way of keeping track of photos and stuff and you have definitely given me some ideas! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
I love this! Thanks for sharing!
I am gonna get me one of them! I DO save all my cards (about 10 years worth) in my Good Vibes Only bin. I LOVE looking back through them, big chunks at a time. I don't think I need the Christmas cards, tho. But it's been a sweet way to keep my thank you notes, birthday cards, etc. Thank you for the encouragement!
This is a great idea because it is something like journal meet scrapbook.
I shred greeting cards. 🤣🤣🤣
I love NKOTB too! :) I just found your channel, and I love this idea of memory journaling, and I'm definitely going to figure out how to do this in my normal planner. I think I'll be able to put memories in there as well.
This is a great idea!
This looks a lot like a “smash book” which has since evolved to creative journaling. Also, packing tape may lift the ink from the paper. I’ve had the text from movie tickets disappear over time because I used incorrect adhesive. You should use tapes & glues (adhesive) specifically for paper, so it won’t ruin the paper over time. Just a little advice from a scrapbook enthusiast. Lastly, I keep most of my greeting cards, especially the ones with personal messages in them (rather than just a signature).
I freaking love your shirt! LOL!
I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE LOVE I HAVE FOR YOUR SHIRT 😱🤩
I had to check to see which shirt 😂 IS IT NOT THE GREATEST 🤣🤣🤣
I’m dying that you met Jordan Knight! 😱
I still can’t believe it 😆
I have that exact same blue journal you showed at the end! Hahaha 😄
💜
Do you have one page for one date and the next page might be a different month or year? Don’t worry about it, just get it down?
I just do it randomly and I pop the date if I feel it’s important but mostly I try to capture the feeling
💗💗💗💗💗💗
Is everyone getting the Noom commercials & Mud water?
Mud Water?! 😂
