- Hi guys, Devon here. My old channel (Devonjw91) got terminated for subtitling/translating copyrighted Japanese songs, yeah....
Anyway, this was my most popular video and one of the few I still have a file for, so I've re-uploaded it.
Song is Korobeiniki (The Peddlers), AKA Tetris Type A. Sung by Ivan Surzhikov. (Took me forever to find his name). ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%...
Sound Trademarked in video games; Public Domain everywhere else.

open.spotify.com/track/3dypnMjA7q1sCREjscHe3Z?si=8brLR5j3RmuUuyHCCOpDdA&dl_branch=1 For those of you with Spotify, I found the song a couple months ago. Most of Ivan Surzhikov’s stuff unfortunately seems to be region locked, so you may need one of those fancy VPNs all your favorite RUclipsrs seem to be *ahem* peddling these days. (^_^;)
EDIT: Either region locked, or whoever owns the rights keeps fiddling with what’s available; I’ve had some of his stuff be greyed out on desktop but not on mobile, and had others vanish from my playlist. Korobeiniki has been stable though
Thanks
Korobeiniki were peddlers with trays, selling fabric, haberdashery, books and other small things in pre-revolutionary Russia. Nekrasov's poem is a sad story about the love between a peasant girl, Katya, and a young peddler. They meet each other in a rye field at night where he has promised her a good deal on the goods he carries, before they are sold in the market at day. Only the night knows what happens between them in the rye field, but she is not so simple and does not take any of the goods which he offers her. What is the point, she figures, to have all that without him - her first and only love? She takes only a small turquoise ring, as a memory, and he promises to marry her when he comes back from his commerce trip. He continues his journey and she waits for him with caution. His business goes very well and he makes a lot of money, but on the way back he is killed and robbed by a forest ranger whom he asks for directions. So he never comes back to marry Katya. The song is the beginning of the original poem; it only recounts Katya's first meeting with the young peddler when their relation is getting off to a happy start.
I've just noticed something. I went onto the Wikipedia page for this song, and it has the SAME TEXT from your comment. Something's going off here...

So, he obviously posted his comment on youtube, copied it and paste it on wikipedia. What's wrong with that?
***** Or he did the exact opposite. Didn't you ever consider that?
+Captain Edward Teach Leave it to Russian "Country" music to get me excited with a wonderful melody, only to tear my heart out at the end.
+Captain Edward Teach (form wikipedia, the full thing) Korobeiniki were peddlers with trays, selling fabric, haberdashery, books and other small things in pre-revolutionary Russia.[3]Nekrasov's poem is a sad story about the love between a peasant girl, Katya, and a young peddler. i don't think this has anything to do with putting blocks in line
all the pieces fit together
I am the man who controls the blocks that descend upon me from above.
Its not originally communist either. It's a folk song from before communism meaning from the time of the tsar
So, why is this song the tetris theme?
This song is the Tetris Type A song cause the Tetris creator is a russian programmer Aleksej Leonidovič Pažitnov, the Tetris main page also has a Cremlino picture and you can see a spaceship clip when you reach the final level, in different versions there are other russian folk songs and also a russian ballad video.
Actually it's about a peddler who promises to marry a peasant girl, but he's robbed and killed by a forest ranger when asking for directions, so he never gets to come back and marry her. The song is just the first part of the poem that it's based upon, when Katya is happy with the good start of the relationship.
mhm..... sad
Does katyusha tie into the story
meanwhile in America: hehe funni block song
@@orans_no I think katyusha is written a long time after I'm not sure tho
The song is just the first part of the poem that it's based upon, when Katya is happy with the good start of the relationship:
Ivan, the younger of the two peddlers (korobeinikis) seduces Katerina in the fields at night. The girl who is in love with him, chooses to buy just one turquoise ring, refusing to take any presents. Departing, he promises to marry her on return.
Katerina works alone in the fields. Pining for Ivan whom she badly wants to marry, she extols her own virtues, including good character and the willingness to do all the hard work for her future husband.
Looking for a shorter way back to Kostroma the travelers find themselves in the moors. A gloomy looking forest ranger with a gun offers himself as a companion. Having figured out there should be a lot of money with the men whose boxes are empty, he kills and robs them. Later in the village's pothouse he launches a spree and inadvertently lets his story out. The police arrives, the murderer is arrested, the dead bodies are found.
So he never gets to come back and marry her.
So it's a song about a travelling merchant and his sweetheart, I guess.
Well, better than +brentaflos what if tetris had lyrics.
+Marko Mihailovic um...the merchant dies on his way to the church.
GmodPlusWoW a traveling merchant getting some pussy in exchange for a turquoise ring
Not some ring. An engagement ring. He is marrying her.
I AM THE MAN WHO ARRANGES THE BLOCKS
This song was chosen over Minuet, a German song with no notable lyrics. We instead now have a song that's actually about a merchant falling in love with a girl. Totally just puts ya' in the block-stacking mood, don't it?
***** tcrf.net/images/f/f4/Tetris10ATYPE.ogg You tell me.
Günther Tuben that's not love. It's prostitution XP
In the poem he never comes home, dies on the way back to her
Im sorry... but this masterpiece just made me cry.... so much beauty is overwheling

It certainly never fails to give me goosebumps. I'm also partial to Katyusha.
I know when you get that long piece in the right spot and get those 4 rows to dissappear it such a beautiful sight!
Russian has got to be the hardest language to vocalize.
Makabayang Pilipinas I'm learning Japanese and Middle Egyptian, and while there are still people who do speak the latter, they're few and far between, plus the knowledge of the right way to pronounce the sounds is mostly lost. (Egyptian has no vowels, like with Arabic and possibly others) Remembering the hieroglyphics can be tricky and on the Japanese side, I can read both kana just fine but not a word of kanji. My vocabulary in both Japanese and Egyptian is also rather basic, plus it's hard to remember everything I learned so far.
@Makabayang Pilipinas I Did Sang Katyusha, It's a bit hard, & Im learning German
Mongolian tho. Ah, mongolian...
It's not as hard as it seems. It happens after a few attempts.
Depends on your mature language. I am native slavic language speaker, so russian prononciation is easy for me, but for someone speaking english, french, Italian, swedish etc. it's got to be a very hard language.
I have no idea how i came to love Korobeiniki so much..
I just.. love it.
801iykwim let me guess, um Tetris?
I am Russian
i like it only because of the rythem. it’s beautiful
I'm Russian and I'm in love with it
@@Molotovexe-be9ur Only rythm? It's amazing overall

Every foreign language is completely independent of English. To learn them, we find equivalents to those words, a process known as "Translation".
It's funny the way sometimes the "o" sounds like an Italian "a". Probably because of the great vowel change. (never had heard Russian before, reading how the words sound)
+Yuri Teixeira Mendes Russian vowels often become reduced in unstressed positions. "o" to "a" happens to be one reduction.
good to know, thank you! I really don't know a lot about East Europe languages *****
Best performance I have heard of this song.
I'm not sure how this fits the Tetris game.... But it is catchy
It's Tetris Theme A from the Nintendo game boy version of Tetris
+The Man With a Trilby Hat I know, but the lyrics don't really fit. I mean this is a song about a man working and falling in love with a girl, not stacking 4-squared figures
Also Tetris was created by a Russian guy called Alexey Pajitnov.
+James Ashley true. But I think the idea was to make the game as Russian as possible haha
+The Man With a Trilby Hat that's about right 😂 it's iconic now. Most people just think of it as the Tetris song
this performance is quite beautiful, i think is the best
Shapes, made of four coloured blocks, like a t or a box, fall down from above
Beautiful. Sad and sweet. It reminds me of the best times of my life. Long before I even knew the meaning of it.
gets even sadder when you find out dude gets ganked by a forest ranger in the end
@@citricdemon yeah, he was killed, mistaking him for a man who did robbery.
@@citricdemon Before he even can propose and marry Katya.
@@depressedguy600 in some versions the forest ranger was the one who was the robber and killed him just to steal his profit
this is my favourite version of the song! shame it isn’t in spotify or... anywhere else for what i’ve seen e. e . Anyway, thanks for the video have been listening this song from here for years jajaja

I'm graateful that you uploaded this,it's the best version there is in my opinion.
IDK, but by reading the lyrics, something definitely got put into into something.
Let's just say, it wasn't the blocks that got laid in that rye field !

I found it!!!!!! I saved this on my favorites back in '09 and when it got deleted, i went crazy trying to look for it! And four years later, ta-da!!! :D
Who listened to this and thought... “shit.. this sounds fire, let me stack some blocks on top of each other to this” that’s what I see...

Korobeiniki is not about the falling blocks from Tetris, it's about a peddler meeting a girl.
Well, Tetris only owns a variation on it, I think.
True.

Gilligan’s island s03e02 brought me here. Episode: Gilligan vs Gilligan. When the Russian Gilligan look alike is on the island. At the end Gilligan 1 is chasing Gilligan 2 and I heard this song in the background and I recognized it immediately as a Tetris song. Had no idea it was an original song. Tetris is my all time favorite video game even tho I had an Atari in 1982 and I didn’t first play Tetris until 1990. The very first time I played it I got up to level 22. 👍🏼🎉

this is the closest version I get from what Intrigued me to this song first time
"Chu, idyot!" sounds so much like "shoo, idiot!" :P
tnx god i foud it again!!!
Nice
This song is compairing a traveling salesman and love I think. I am guessing the ring was marriage and the tall rye hid there act of love. The salesman like always is selling himself but this time he is selling himself trying to impress the girl. The line about her not paying too much is about the girl trying to make sure that it is really love so she does not give herself to him and he leaves after getting what all men want. What a great song. Hope I understood it correctly.
Do you have any blocks?
When you search this up but there are no stacking blocks

I don't know Russian, but I've always been a fan of etymology, which is the study of the history of a word and its original roots. And this is all speculation, but looking at the word "korobeiniki" I'm struck by the prefix "koro" which could mean something like "good." Since the Russian word for good is Korosho. Again, this is all speculative, but i'd love to know if anyone knows (not thinks they know).
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%B5%D0%B9%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA#Russian According to Wiktionary it's derived from the word for basket
Ooh! Etymology!! Yay!
(As I typed "etymology", it almost came up "eyebrows".)
@@TheManWithATrilbyHat I suppose that would make sense in the context of the song.
the word "good" is khorosho, an h sound. ("хорошо") the word for basket or box is korobka. ("коробка") it's a k sound, so quite different!
«Ой, полна, полна коробушка,

„Не хочу ходить нарядная
Без сердечного дружка!“

Не сама ли принесла
Полуштофик сладкой водочки?
А подарков не взяла!

И товарища ворчливого

«Я уж думал, ты пропал!»
Ванька только ухмыляется -
Я-де ситцы продавал!
Why was his box so light afterwards when all she took was a ring?
It wasn't the box that was weighing him down physically. It's a metaphor. Think about this: You manage to get a girl you like to take a ring from you, and now a burden is gone from you, and you feel lighter and easier. What does that sound like to you?
Because she married him and is now in possession of all his stuff.
ღリトル ウサギღ she doesn't took only a ring.
in fact this song is not a original song so....
in original song she took everything from his box

На "Чу идет " the desired one came, описался просто, есть вещи которые нельзя перевести
So lil' miss Katya offered her nightly services to obtain a cheaper price....
Well it didnt end that way, in the poem it was based on she waits for him to come back from a trip to sell goods and he does really well, and hes killed by a forest ranger while trying to get directions. Thought id point it out
