Im asking me ,what kind of motor they have ,i dont think they are all 160hp models.....it mkre like boosted up 125 hp models ....if somebody knows how to get this kind of agressiveness out of a stock 125 puma i would be very happy about it
Sebastian McFly they have about 230 hp. The engines were actually heavily modified standard Puma 1.7 engines. If you want more information on how they gained 100 hp over a standard Puma just give Harvey Gibbs from SCS Peterborough a call as he originally developed and built all S1600 Puma engines
This car should've been awd, it is too wide and looks so underpowered. Isnt there a rally puma with a bigger engine? Looks like a car to compete with a punto, or a clio. Not much faster...
it ran with either a 1.4 or 1.6. Fords Boreham rally department produced a 4x4 powered by escort cosworth running gear but it never made it to competition
jfv65 Yeah they have 4 wheel drive and ridiculous acceleration so it doesn't matter to lose so much speed, but for front wheel drive, slower cars like this, it is just bad. It needs long for them to get into the speed, they got before they turned in. For that reason I don't understand why they are doing this so much.
understeer also kills speed... and it overheats the oute edges of the front tires. This way the car brakes, steers in, handbrake is pulled, car rotates with backslide. release handbrake. steer dead ahead and power out of the turn. Check the videos of Jean Ragnotti in R5 GTturbo and Clio RS. He is the FWD master!

jfv65 you are right about understeer. but geometry of puma s1600 doesn't let it to be driven like renault 5. it is the widest rally car possibly and you can't transfer the weight efficiently enough. so you need "loeb" size driver to sort it out. those youngsters couldn't sorted it and puma s1600 never showed its potential. kris meeke, jm latvala, guy wilks, francois duval.. and some more talents drove it early 2000s.
+Joshbert The S1600 puma had no torque so had to be reved and driven hard. think of it more like a bike engine with narrow power band. Its basically a short stroke 1.7 puma engine. if it had more torque you can drive it differently, but you gotta drive it like you stole it!
I'm a Rally Championship 2000 (an old rally game) fanboy. It's a long story, but in short I just didn't want to pay for Forza Horizon 4, yet this was the only game that has both these kind of cars and the ability to put rally decals on them.
1:24 OK so apparently the white stripe-things on the sides of the car glow in the dark. That's a pretty cool livery.
Gonna buy Puma today. With 1.7 engine. For rally of course.
Bellissima, complimenti, ho acquistato anche io una Puma per renderla magica, ma poi non ho piu' portato avanti il progetto, puo' interessare?
sucks that these never made it to north america.

What I don't understand, why do you make drifts with a front wheel car on tarmac? This is much slower than turning in normally and accelerate out.
even WRC cars use handbrake turns on tight hairpin curves.

Me, actually I built a Ford Puma Evolution 4WD with 300hp
