  • Happy New Year. a soundoff of all the Bells I own. Bells are as follows: Hybrid Bell, Mini Bell, Safetrans Type 1(or whateve they called lol), WC Hayes 333, WRRS 1206, Teardrop Bell and WC Hayes 777. No idea why the 1206 wouldnt work. didnt have a problem testing it when I replaced the plunger

    Michigan used to be LOADED with mini bells and teardrops in the early 70's.

      I only know 1 crossing in Oregon that had teardrop bells. it was taken out of service and the tracks are gone. I wish I could have seen that crossing in action but oh well

    I have a teardrop bell that is almost identical to yours except the patent date isn’t on the rain shield. Is it older? Or newer?

    In Australia, we have hybrid bells but it's a different cast. And the gong is coloured black or maybe gray

    The WC Hayes 0777, if you're on the West Coast, seems to be exclusive to UP crossings while BNSF uses the Safetran Type 3. Don't know how it is on the East Coast. Very nice collection regardless; I'm missing the mechanical bells more and more with each passing day.

      here at the west coast the vally of California (southern cali) we mostly have tyoe 2 safetran or western Cullen hays type 2 or 1.

      They're fairly common in Florida. Florida East Coast uses a lot of these but CSX and NS use Safetran and NEG

    The railroad crossing closest to my house has that WCH Triple-3 mechanical bell (or at least it sounds like it). That one works perfectly fine, though
    Edit: NOPE, I was wrong. It actually uses a GS Type-1 E-Bell, which I think is the most common E-Bell in America, or at least Alabama

      Actually, there are 4 crossings near it. 2 have mechanical bells that I know of (one of these has no gates). I'm not sure about the other 2

      @@kplinger Listen, I was younger when I made this comment. I got them confused because I honestly never paid attention to crossing bells. I'm more educated now, and I know how to tell them apart.
      I still don't pay much attention though.

    How do I operate / convert my DC powered train bell to operate on AC power?

      You need to put in a diode and a capacitor inside the train and you must use a transformer power supply to prevent electrocution
      I don't know why you want to this but idk

      You can use a 12v Car battery to power those I'm not sure of how to wire them though.

      Ultra 7 yes the WCH bells are the most common. Id say the Safetrans (other than the Ebells) gongers 2nd most common
