This kind of behavior has always been interesting to me, trying to understand where such a pathological need arises from. My mom was the youngest of 3, and her dad was a former paratrooper and truck driver who was on the road an average of 3 weeks at time. My mom was an adult when she found out she actually had a little brother. She reached out and they got to know each other and, through conversations with him, she learned that some of the time her dad was supposed to be on the road, he was actually with his other family. It was a shock, but my mom took it well. She was just glad that her little brother got to have his dad around some, too, even if it was less than ideal for all involved. My grandfather was a man's man with a charisma and air about him that drew people to him. Everyone either loved him, respected him, or both.

@@lightforce4604 Biologically men are motivated to spread their seed as much as possible for greater genetic diversity. But I feel like that's somewhat removed from maintaining secret lives with additional families. The two things are related, sure, but 1 is an underlying drive rooted in the primal "reptilian" brain, while the other is very much consciously driven. There definitely seems to be a correlation between "adrenaline junkie" types and having secret lives, for obvious reasons. Of course, that's not to say that some amount of it isn't just men who get caught up in the consequences of those primal desires and opt to do the right thing while attempting to not upset the status quo. Regardless, I'm always intrigued by people who think or behave in a manner completely foreign or counterintuitive to me.
@ Its not that complicated dude! He had to hide it because the social norms have changed! In the past adrenaline junkie or not many men constantly practiced polygamy. And they didn't keep it a secret because it was acceptable then. You still see this practice amongst African American and Latino men! The wives simply pretend to be in denial of one and another. I'm of the opinion that if the man has the ability to take care of the families then he should be allowed to do so.
He must of been pretty smart to learn those languages so quickly. Though some people do have a natural bent for these things. He was well travelled and had mixed with many classes of people, from criminal to professonal. No one can say he didn’t live life to the full. Women were his weakness tho.
Reminds me of the 19th century explorer, Sir Richard Burton. He was in India, Africa and the far east and picked up many languages with ease, translating the Indian classic, "The Kama Sutra" for English audiences, which was instantly banned for years. He had several unofficial "wives" and then came back to England to marry his English wife, a devout Roman Catholic who never stopped trying to convert him. He went along with it, but everyone knew he didn't take it seriously. After his death, she destroyed his priceless library and burned all his papers and books to "prove" he was really a simple, religious catholic. Unfortunately, for her, she was wrong...

There was a guy who worked on an oil rig complex for the same company as me in the Persian Gulf who led a similar 'double' life. He was a pom and he convinced the wife 'back in Blighty' he worked three months on the rig and one month off, where he actually worked one month on one month off. In his 'other' month off, he had found himself a second wife in Thailand and convinced her of the same. So, basically he was doing month on the rig, month in the UK, month on the rig, month in Thailand. He kept this going for ten years with the help of his back to back, who knew the schedule and if wife #1 called whilst he was with wife #2 he'd say something along the lines of "Oh he's out on the rig somewhere, I'll get him to call you". All this went outstandingly well - the story was well known to all 5,000 company employees, until the day his back to back retired and he didn't get the opportunity to have a full handover with the 'new guy'. It's winter in the UK and your man is away in Thailand when UK wife rings up desperate because the water pipes have frozen and cracked and then thawed and now she's got water everywhere. New guy responds.... "He's in Thailand with his wife!" 😱🤦♂ then 💔💔
That's the difference my friend. You're approaching girls on "Dating apps". While this guy was dean/professor whatever of Legendary University of Punjab (lahore, Pakistan) and even that in 1920s or 1930s. What i want to say is make yourself worthy and chicks will fall over you in real life.
Well of the truths of Alex Wilson including, distinguished active service in WWI resulting in injury , fluency in five languages, a successful and prolific career as a published author. As well as having the minerals to front out a successful career abroad that he was unqualified for - probably made him an attractive proposition. That and his roguish charisma, gentlemanly charm and the fact he talked to ladies in, you know - real life has something to do with it. Nobody likes a cry baby.
Reminds me of my ex-step dad. Did something similar. He had been convicted of child abuse and had beat me up one time and my mom refused to call 911, out of fear of him I assume. He committed suicide. He was a piece of shit... so I dont care. Lied to my mom about which number wife she was of his. Lied after, to wives after my mom, too - he had gotten married two more times after my mom divorced him but only years later when she had a kid with him. Not all of them knew about each other until after he killed himself.
I feel like your mother is not such a good mother if she let her husband beat up her son and not call the police, especially if that son was not his, but I may have got that wrong, sorry if thats the case.

I can't remember if the husband was the one whose death they were investigating or not, but he had 3-4 wives and all of them were like, "oh but he was so nice and really encouraged me to pursue my dreams" so they weren't mad to find out he had other wives?!
Hey, I cannot help to like you, although I am not that interested in history and those mysteries, I am hooked and learning a bit in the process. Well done and thank you. Much Love. Charmain
I would be more impressed if he actively lived the family life with all these households at once. He essentially just kept abandoning his family to start up with someone new in a different area.

My father was an avid novel reader when he was alive. Maybe he read one of Wilsons novel and imitated him. He had many wives, one of them was also named Elizabeth. But my father was wiser, he didn't marry any. And the wives knew each other. He even managed to put two of those families under one roof for a brief period. When he died, all the wives, children and dogs got together.
They made a movie about this guy, or more accurately, his 3rd wife, titled (surprise) Mrs. Wilson. He is played by Iian Glen. He dies at the beginning, and shows up mostly in flashbacks.
Hey, Milton Cemetery, my great-great-grandparents are buried there! (I mean, there's another family buried on top of them because hey, when the lease expires, why not just sell it to someone else? Oh no, I'm not allowed to know exactly where mine are, that'd be breaching confidentiality for the other lot...)
Good job there were no smart phones and computers then or he'd have been hooked in Dr G ..Great story and clearly he chose his wives well since they asked few questions and adored him .. Well done
@Safwaan happens all the time and people just dont know about it. You use fake names, and avoid making any national headlines with those fake names. Granted, having legal marriages with fake identities would be a little tricky. But assuming you could get credible fake documentation, there's no reason you couldnt. In the US it would actually be pretty easy since states almost never communicate stuff like marriage certificates with each other. In fact, if you managed to get as far as having multiple marriages when you died, they probably never would find out. 3 out of the 4 families would put out missing persons reports and probably never find out what happened to you.
@Safwaan Some people withdraw from social media and if he convinced all his wives that he was a spy and that they shouldn't upload any of his pictures online, he could remain undetected.
@Safwaan Not really, there are many gullible women out there. Being a spy is also a very easy thing to lie about, since you are supposed to not be able to reveal much information, as long as you travel around and can send a picture back or two every month and weekly messaging, you could also tell her that sending more pictures or daily communication isn't possible or would compromise you and so on. Also it becomes different once you make children, you would have higher chance of keeping your woman or wife at that point even if you have a long distance relationship just because they wouldn't want their children to not have a father and they will feel more attached to you, same goes with marriage.
@Safwaan No one is saying that it isn't a shitty move, this guy in the video was also a really bad person, he left his first wife completely for so many years before he died. Probably because he didn't have money for all of them and the wives he spent time with, he was away for half a year or a year while visiting the next one in a cycle. If you have wife/family and you are missing for a long time like that, whether he sent money or not doesn't matter, when they needed him, he wasn't there.

4 wives? That means 4 mothers-in-law. Now imagine if he got drunk. Instead of seeing 4 mothers-in-law he'd see 8!!!!! A fate worse than death for sure.
My "father" wasn't a spy but this is (I guess) similar to what happened to me, my twin brother and my mom. He pretty much said I'll be back and we never saw him again. Fast forward, I'm about 25, I'm at work and I get a phone call from a strange number. I normally don't answer those but something in my soul compelled me to answer. It was my sister, it was the first time we had ever spoke and we cried. She told me how she had a baby picture of me and my twin brother held by our other grandmother (on his side). At that point in time, we had never heard of them, knew of any existence of them, absolutely nothing. That phone call changed everything. I also have a another brother, he's the youngest of the four of us. I was shocked but overall excited I had a sister and brother. He's not dead he just doesn't seem to wanna know us and we're absolutely cool with that. My family got bigger, I am at least grateful for that. We all look alike too lol 💗💗💗💗
The only answer I can think of to the titular question is... because he could? I read an article once about a study done on adultery. When wives were asked why they had been unfaithful to their husbands, the overwhelming response pattern had to do with things like feeling emotionally neglected, etc. - some sort of actual reason. But the primary answer that percolated out of interviewing unfaithful husbands really boiled down to "because the other woman was willing."

Plot twist: he had a lot of passports.
And had several nationalities
If he had zero passports he'd only need 1 wife for the title to be true
There was a tv show about this Mrs Wilson. The actress Ruth Wilson played her grandmother who was one of Alexander Wilson's wives.

My great grandpa was a US soldier in WW2...where he met my great grandma who lived in Germany. They started having kids and she moved to the states.... and the ultimately he errr unalived when it was found out he had A WHOLE OTHER FAMILY in another state instead of talk about it. My great grandma and grandma wont talk about it at all. One day I hope to unravel this family mystery
the way you phrase it "they started having kids" is so strange. It's like they got a disease or something.
I'm exhausted and out of breath just after hearing the initial explanation of his life.... Holly cow, how do some people juggle all this stuff... I think I have chronic fatigue syndrome... Lol
No I'm right there with you buddy. I think we are the normal ones as unfortunate as it is
There was a guy who worked on an oil rig complex for the same company as me in the Persian Gulf who led a similar 'double' life.

Sorry that you were betrayed by your cruel father. Your life must have been difficult.
I hope you can live with happiness now.
I feel like your mother is not such a good mother if she let her husband beat up her son and not call the police, especially if that son was not his, but I may have got that wrong, sorry if thats the case.

Asking your SO if they'd be comfortable sharing you with someone else is can be difficult, however it's easier than living at least two separate lives.
It's called bigamy, and it's illegal.
Where do you find all the amazing content you post. I really love your videos and the way you present them. You get us hooked in the stories. Listening to you telling stories is almost like Dimash singing them. It is hypnotic. You take us on a journey somehow. Brilliant.

I watched an episode of Jag with my parents that seemed vaguely similar to this.
Now off to bed to listen to another of Wilson’s books 🙂 Thanks for this one Mr Stasch’

Arran I just finished your book it was so good I’ve never been so enthralled with history, I just thought that it was so great. Can’t wait for Bread and Circuses!
Sounds like your father was a fundamentalist mormon.

Good job there were no smart phones and computers then or he'd have been hooked in Dr G ..Great story and clearly he chose his wives well since they asked few questions and adored him .. Well done
@Safwaan would they? You can only find someone online if you are looking, and if you dont know the alias used, its very hard to look.
If you have wife/family and you are missing for a long time like that, whether he sent money or not doesn't matter, when they needed him, he wasn't there.
that was a GREAT adventure of a story!! thanks!! 🎉❤

In situations like this,I always recommend to people on getting guidance at least from someone that understands price action and all that while you strive on improving yourself by watching videos and learning fundamental analysis.
Investment guidance sounds like a great idea, thought about it before but never knew how to go about it.

Well This man must be an Inspiration for the MC in 'School days'

The only answer I can think of to the titular question is... because he could? I read an article once about a study done on adultery. When wives were asked why they had been unfaithful to their husbands, the overwhelming response pattern had to do with things like feeling emotionally neglected, etc. - some sort of actual reason. But the primary answer that percolated out of interviewing unfaithful husbands really boiled down to "because the other woman was willing."
Talk about a glutton for punishment!
Well... He didn't get away exactly... He had a heart attack!
