I'd LOVE a new Outlast game (or Outlast-inspired game) that blended the run & hide mechanics and night vision with gameplay more reminiscent of the Condemned series. Seeing freaky looking psychos come after you in The Outlast Trials gives me major Criminal Origins vibes. That masterpiece made drug addicts scarier than I think any other game has to date.

It can add to the fear factor. Survival-horror excels at this thanks to the paranoia created by resource management, deciding when it's worth it trying to fight back vs. when to opt for evading enemies. That's where stealth mechanics can factor in. Instead of having to play the entire game one way or the other, players should have the flexibility to do both. If you have enough bullets, go try to kill the monster. If you prefer stealth attacks, sneak up behind it. If you're low on ammo and/or have only a brittle weapon whose durability is on the verge of breaking, run or hide in lockers & under beds. Showing how much harder fighting enemies is can also make them scarier. Let's say you want to discourage players from fighting specific enemies head-on? Then let us attack them, only to see how our weapons shave off little health per hit or (at worst) only momentarily stun them. Show how tough they are as melee weapons quickly break against them or they take a lot of ammo to gun down, thereby incentivizing players to realize "Okay, maybe I should sneak around this particular guy." Ex- Part of what made Resident Evil (especially in its early hours) scary, I think, is the experience of expending precious bullets or knife durability stabbing monsters only for them to keep coming at you. Even in the modern remakes, it could potentially take several head-shots to permanently put down one zombie. Granted, I personally found that annoying and thought it undermined the whole point of accuracy. I'm generally against bullet sponge-type foes that aren't bosses unless there's a substantiative reason for it.
at 1:32 the Walmart thing is because they noticed the amount of theft decreased enough in key locations to actually net them more profits by keeping it closed from 11PM to 7AM every night due to covid constraints, and just kept it that way.
