I was there....still got my game ticket and old skill paper photographs and negatives of the day.....and the same from the 97 American Bowl (Bears/Steele's) in Ireland. Happy days !!
@TheMagicBolt draws in league games are fair enough the contest lasts a season not an afternoon, the whole fact that the game is so tactical is why it isnt high scoring but that makes you appreciate it more, it males it more exciting in my opinion. its geprgraphical - the scottish claymores my supposed home town team got crowds of 5 thousand, next door to them hearts - my actual team were getting 4 times that, that follows thru europe football is the game, this game here is an oddity
I completely agree that association football is, and always will be king in europe and most of the world. However I think there is still room for other team sports to emerge. American football is a difficult sport to develop because it is very expensive to field a team because of the equipment and number of players, coaches, and specialized staff involved.
@utrapzab As for the Constant scoring, there isn't constant scoring. I just think in Soccer, there is too little scoring and the game isn't set up for a do or die finish. THe best part is when i know that every SUnday i will see game that comes down to a field goal to win or lose a game. I rarely see finishes like that in the soccer games i watch, There were some last second scoring which was interesting though. ANother thing, why do they allow ties? I think that's sort of disappointing.
I remember getting free tickets for this, and other games, from School (I lived in Edinburgh, right next to Murrayfield). I am sure we also got tickets either free or very cheap due to our postcode, but I definitely remember them being handed out like sweets at school to encourage us to go. I am not saying everyone was there because it was free, but that would have boosted the numbers. I do remember the games being quite popular, as can be seen in this video. My relatives from The West coast would come through for games as we had so many tickets. I actually have the match program from this very game on my bookshelf...finding it made me come and watch this video!
@pealcake Because Roger Goodell thought the NFL Europe cost too much money. It's too bad, cos we were happy here in Europe to have football games during spring. Some may say that those games were not very good. I'd like to answer that the games had the level of pre-season NFL games...which is good enough by my standard.
cant put a square peg in a round hole, europe is mad for football, but only played with the feet, it looks like real football will soon take america too, games like this are a novelty and have a place in entertainment but nothing beats football, real football
@utrapzab I get that it isn't played much in Europe for the exception of Germany. But i guess its not called AMERICAN football for nothing. In America it is just the opposite. The professional soccer teams here get a crowd of 5 thousand and the NFL games get 80,000. People just grow up watching it here and take pride in their team much like fans of association football in Europe do. As for the tatical aspect, in my opinion no game takes more strategy than american football.
Bryce S. How times have changed soccer the most played sport in the USA by children overtook baseball in viewing figures and Atlanta regularly selling 70 thousand tickets for home games
@TheMagicBolt thats ameirca through and thorugh that last comment, cant watch it unlss there is constant scoring, too easily distraacted by the burgers and hot dogs on sale instead of supporting your team i agree that grid iron is better than baseball but american sports arent that great, motor racing is just round and round, basketball is for the ladies sure but its not that entertaining, grid iron is the best of them, had to laugh at lacrosse tho, how obscure is that
@utrapzab Umm.. okay i don't like any other american sports unless its Our football. I do watch soccer games, not MLS, but EPL or sometimes the SPanish league. I just find AMerican Football more entertaining. I guess it's partially because when im out with my friends the NFL is something we can talk about and have pride for our teams. As for the burger comment. Is that necessary? The only american comercials are about beer and cars. But who doens't like a beer when they watch their sport?
@TheMagicBolt nope its still you, aussie rules is referred to as such, not football, gaelic football is referred to as such - all because they need to distinguish fromt he world game - football, the only, ONLY world body concerning any football is called FIFA, FIFA doesnt cover egg chasing, rugby is an excuse for accountants to findle each other in the shower so dont think im defending it. rugby is the worst of all games. but grid iron is pretty poor as a sport, they should just ban it lol
Love the Claymore Uni's....use to love watching this league
I was there....still got my game ticket and old skill paper photographs and negatives of the day.....and the same from the 97 American Bowl (Bears/Steele's) in Ireland. Happy days !!
During the 1996 World Bowl, FOX studio host and analysts are James Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and John Madden.
This game is about the Scottish Claymores vs Frankfurt Galaxy.
This brings back soooooo many great memories from following the Claymores.
I miss going to watch the claymores. But I'm happy I get the chance to play it now in the UK :)
Thanks for posting!
Those galaxy jerseys are so badass
Murray. Field. How is that so hard to pronounce?
Didn't become an NFLE/WLAF fan until 1997 so this is the last World Bowl I missed.
Please come back to FOX, Kevin Harlan!!

@neoprankster it still sounds funny, like if FOX were to cover CFL games for some reason.
Thats a wierd way to say Murrayfield. I live in Edinburgh.
is that jimmy jonhson
It already happened.
So was I!
The NFL's biggest day in Europe.
This is what AAF will be but better and more successful
@gthec9909 World League of American Football (WLAF) which later became the NFL Europe

I was there lol
hearing the FOX sports music then seeing World League American Football on the screen made be laugh, seems like a joke
@zeljkodjukic NFL Europa is defunct in 2007.
cant put a square peg in a round hole, europe is mad for football, but only played with the feet, it looks like real football will soon take america too, games like this are a novelty and have a place in entertainment but nothing beats football, real football
IT sould be "THe World (except for USA) Bowl"

nope nvm terry bradshaw
NFL Europe is like the Premier League in the U.S not happening
@haaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa The resources just aren't available to grow the sport in countries like United Kingdom unfortunatlely :(
It wouldve been awesome if they had an NFL team play an NFL europe team.
Alec Romero it would be like getting Nfl players to play Rugby.
CLAYMORES? hahahahhaha
