- Finally! We're moving into the old homestead that was abandoned until we took over a few months ago. It'll be great to have a bed inside during windy or rainy weather and in winter.

Hey Chrissy and Clint, Use fine grade #0000 steel wool for cleaning the glass, works a treat and doesn't scratch the glass, use it with warm soapy water...
Yes, works great, even dry after a regular windex cleaning. Don’t re-use the steel wool after it gets or has been wet. Rust scratches glass.
Hello Folks! You might try a single-edge razor blade scraper. You can wrap one side of a double-edged blade with tape and fashion one for yourself that will scrape the glass clean.
YES! GREAT IDEA ! ! ! DO THAT !!!
Rain in the desert is always a gift. If you had some paint, your bedroom would enjoy a fresh coat! More Vids Krissy, please
You two have done wonders to the place. It’s nice to see you make it livable.
Hi Krissy and Clint, If you have got lots of live spiders and years of webs to clean, the easiest way to deal with them is , buy yourself a heat gun , one pass with it and the webs shrivel up and the spiders become black dots on the floor to be swept up in a jiffy.
Barry Albany. Keep going you two,😀 you will soon be ready for receiving guests
I'm a bit jealous. Living in the gold fields would be an adventure everyday.
Oh my goodness. How wonderful was that rain?!?!? Those dogs have the best life walking in the water like that! You did a great job in those rooms too! Thanks for the video!
Looks like lime buildup on those window panes. Here in the US I would wipe them with a solution called CLR
Hi guys, for your windows that your cleaning, use steelos, the stainless scrubbers with soap in them.
We’ve used them on our boat windscreens and as long as they are glass, no tint, it works a treat and without much work.
Doesn’t work on plastics obviously.
People don’t believe me when I tell them to use them on glass, but try it you will be surprised 👍
Those dogs have a great life. They got there humans and place to live.
I actually envy dogs. They usually get well treated and they don't have to suffer life for as long as humans.
Well Krissy really looking like a place too call home you both are getting there slowly it's amazing off the grid even better and much needed rain to boot. What more could you both want easy life style brilliant.
Purchase a sachet of Coopex from Bunnings. Mix it into 20L pressure spray filled with water. Spray the perimeter outside. Only downside kills every insect on contact. It works for 3 months to stop insects entering the house. Use the Raid insect can bombs in a box of 3 for inside. You can do inside a room. Each room, have to wait 2hrs before using that room. Looking great the improvements you have done.
HI there Krissy, you should try this stuff called CLR when cleaning. Cheers.
I use screwed up damp newspaper or paper towel, dipped in wood ash, then wiped down with a damp chux to clean all glass including windows, oven doors, shower screens etc. Works really really well. And its fast with no effort.
Ya'll are such hard workers. It sure is paying off. Place looking great!
Thankyou, I enjoyed that. Useful information about the solar and battery. Truck wash CT18 is best cleaning product you can buy. Spray on walls and windows, good scrub with broom and light water blast. Saves a lot of time.
WHEN WE STARTED TO REDO OUR OLD HOUSE LOADED WITH COB WEBS I USED A T-SHIRT ON A BROOM WIPED THE HECK OUT OF IT.
Bicarb soda and a little mosture is a soft abrasive
Good to see your moving into the house
Everything is looking great. keep up the great work. cheers Owen.
Pumpkins are very handy Chrissey. They last for months. You two have done well doing up that dilapidated homestead. Ask the owner for some paint. He can only say no. Liked how your lawn has picked up. The hanging baskets would have enjoyed being put out in the rain. Glad you got some rain.
I'm not certain if there is an owner lol however it's always an option to check the neighbours for semi used tins of paint and/or next trip to town hit Bunnings and the off tins (wrong colour etc.) - you can generally pick up some real bargains and have fun.
Nicely done guys, you've done an amazing job of tidying up the old place on such a low budget, especially with it having been abandoned for so long. Your RAPS is impressive, seems to run most household appliances.
Yep ... limescale remover [vinegar should do it if you saturate a cloth and stick the cloth to the window overnight ... and then use a green scrubby] but you can buy bleach with limescale remover in the shops ... next time you go to the supermarket maybe you should ask, or look for some.
and yep ... another thing you could try is a Stanley knife / box cutter blade ... not sure what they call them down under ... mother in laws razor blades ?
no idea ... but you could ask at your local supermarket ..!
failing that have you tried singing to it ?
Maybe it will run a mile as soon as you let rip !
You could try turning the windmill into a generator. Old generators with worn out motors can be common in scrap yards remove the motor and the rotational motion can be used. Use a voltage regulator and feed it in. You are making great progress. Good luck.👍
Add a bit of baking soda to the vinegar to clean the windows dishwasher soap to the vinegar...works well.
Nothing like a nice soaking rain to transform your backyard (looks like a lake house😆). You're both doing an amazing job and enjoying doing it.
You go girl.
To clean the windows use a damp cloth with some Ash from that woodstove. It will work wonders.
Could try CLR for windows it works on shower glass or maybe a Stanley blade scraper .
Your Homestead is lookin great! You two really are a great couple. So happy for both of you! 👍 👍 👍
You will need door screens to stop the King Browns, Red Bellied Blacks and Eastern Browns from coming into your home. They will be looking for cool and water, and of course wi dow flyscreens too. One other thing, both of you will need to invest in some good work boots, living off grid is not for the feint hearted. Loving your reels❤ As for cleaning the glass a big dob of toothpaste and sturdy cloth and great wrist action will remove the lime coating.Another tip always bring your pot plants and hanging baskets out into the rain, they will get a new lease on life. ❤😊
I'm loving all the updates on the homestead, it really shows how much work you and Clint have done, keep the videos coming, also say hi to the dogs for me
Windex to soften the dried coating on the glass and a single edge Razor Blade scraper should do the job.
"That Thing up there" which produces Light just happens to be a relatively small Nuclear Fusion device that's conveniently located ! Lucky You ! 😊
Try mixing baking soda and vinegar into a paste, apply to glass, leave 15 minutes and remove with water or 50/50 CLR with warm water, sponge on glass and leave for a couple of minutes then remove with water
Magic Erasers cleans really well .
Loved the rains in Queensland!
The finest grade steel wool with the white vinegar should shift it without scratching the glass.
Yes, steel wool or Scotch bright pads.
Or fine car cut paste and a buff pad on drill/ozito car buff. No elbow grease!
For the cloudy windows, try vinegar with very fine steel wool.
For the Windows, as a painter, with paint overspray or stuff like the spray on glass frosting use methylated spirits ( metho ). Let it soak for 20 to 30 seconds and give it a gentle scrape with a flat blade scraper with a rag over the blade so you can apply a little more pressure on it without scratching the glass. Try a blade by itself first then drape the rag over when it is more stubborn. Cheers 🍻
Razor blades fir cleaning glass. Or SOS pads with the soap in them. Crusher dust on your bare patches between grass patches . Grass loves Crusher dust and will grow fast across it.
If you could regrade the land to have a gentle slope V channel with ridges. Then get a big sluice box and your water pump. You can have the rain bring all of the gold to you...
Good old canuba wax on the windows. Just old fashion car wax. Works great. Fills in light scratches also.😊
Thanks, looks like home. ✌🏻👊🏼
Oh, yeah, and deep freezers are even more efficient, add a cord thermometer switch if it doesnt have refrigerator also setting, and since there is more insulation, and cold air not escaping, they are way more efficient. I think daily consumption is half of front door type refrigerators depending on how you use them!
A fine cut and polish works, Clint will know.
Mr Hammer Magic Erasers should work well. Even use with vinegar.
Those really are Magic. Love them.
I love seeing your adventures and the way your hunting for gold has led down so many different paths! I love seeing you hunt gold but I have really enjoyed Clint and your journey getting this place up to scratch. I look forward to seeing what you do next.
For the windows: There are these scrapers that u use for induction stoves, to remove burnt fat or food products. Try that, I think that will work fine:-). Nice try with Vinegar btw;-).
Insane for me to see how flat it is out there when it rains. It just pools up everywhere.
Just for walking my dog I can go on a 135m elevation change within just 3km.
Try 0000 steel wool . Does well on mirrors as well. No cleaners or rags are needed. Just use duster after . I use a magnet to pick up loose pieces of wool ; then dust.
A paint razor may get this film off the glass, great work, happy homesteading
Metal polish works great on really bad windows.
Loved your Japanese riding boots Chrissy.
As for the windows you can try gasoline😮 let it stay on the window for a half an hour HOT WATER soap and ❤ it is more like home sweet home now you too are doing a great job and the dogs they're happy what else could you ask for thank you for the video I will see you on the next one goodbye❤❤🎉🎉🎉😂😂
Lovin the homested clean up/life episodes, keep em comoing 👍🏼🍻
Hello of France (Bordeaux) !
you can try cleaning the windows with toothpaste. we also do it for opaque headlights of finishing cars.
Thank you for all the videos ! 🤩
Try Jet-Clean for Dish washers, stops water droplet staining, but works great on exterior windows as well. If pitted use a window scraper or steel-wool. If their plastic windows, try turtle wax with carnuba. It has a light grit in it to cut-polish, also good for cloudy head-lights
Good update nice looking homestead thanks for sharing.
Soapy water and a razor blade window scraper for the windows, with vinigar you need to add baking soda which is also great for cleaning washing machines, showers, etc. The walls, I would use sugar soap on them and then wipe down with clean water on a rag. If you have lots of mold, there is a produce call BC36 which you just spray it on with a Garden/Chemical Sprayer (wear a Mask) and let it sit for 30min to an Hour before washing it off with clean water. Be aware that this produce is corrosive just like bleach so don't let it sit on metal surfaces for any length of time or get into your gutters.
Yep love love ur videos n the doggies are enjoying life ❤❤❤❤
easy way to clean glass even the worst of filthy glass is use ordinary steel wool and turps. the steel wool will cut the dirt the turps will desolve the dirt and lubricate the glass. then use glass cleaner of your choise the clean the turps.
As it came off where you scratched try a green scourer pad. If all else fails be careful with it but try Brake Fluid as it strips car paint etc.
I am very envious of your Bluetti system, i have 3 105 and 3 120 amp hour batteries hooked up to 2 solar panels with all up 380 Watts of output. Just to run my 80 litre Waeko fridge/freezer. As long as i dont try charging up my laptop through a 600w inverter. If i do, the fridge struggles to run. If at all once the sun goes down, and cloudy days aren't of much benefit either. With lots of shade from gum trees, I have my panels layed out on a small trailer which i have to move around constantly chasing the sun. Every few days, generally in the evening I have to hook up to the car to give the batteries an extra charge to keep the fridge running through the night, frustrating and a pain in the butt. Like youselves i spend most of my time trying to get everything into a livable condition, if its not one job, its another! Its sunday, and im trying to convince myself to take the day off, But after lunch I reckon ill get back into it. That rain you had looked refreshing but i doubt that it got much cooler and probably got humid and sticky for a while. I think for you two and myself, theres still a year or two of work to be done before we really reap the rewards of the work we are doing. Im looking forward to that day. Take care of yourselves, Cheers!
Pressed tin walls! Spectacular
Try buffing/polishing the windows with a compound. I’ve seen car guys do it on old windows that are stained/weathered 👍
Hi Chrissy… for windows try Gumption paste with a scratch free sponge …wet sponge dip into paste liberally and scrub in circular motions, then rinse off with water… trust me, it works..
Try methylated spirits and folded up newspaper on the glass.
You could also try “CLR” (Calcium Lime & Rust remover” from Bunnings.
It's amazing how some old houses just need a bit of TLC to get them going again!! With the housing crisis going on at the moment it really makes you think about it all!! Love it when it rains in the dessert!!
Steel Wool is BEST for cleaning glass. Use it with Windex or some cleaners with Ammonia in it.
Backcountry sells a "stoic" brand air mattresses that are 4 inch of cushion and air, and when they are inflated just right they are literally like a whole mattress. About 100 dollars, durable enough and comfortable with a small topper and sheets for thin mattresses.
Durable quality and long lasting materials makes it absolutely best value. perfect for campers or back seats, or tent camping too.
Just air up, press down with fist, when its fairly easy to depress to bottom suface, its most comfortable there.
I would have 4 if I needed them for every room, but its just mine and it works great with a small second hand platform bedframe. just as comfortable on the floor too. It works great for low cost low environmental impact, easy to use move and take camping too.
About 100 usd and maybe 15lbs, works great. takes 2 days to self inflate though. might just need a good air pump and vacuum if you plan on taking it places aired up and not aired up.
Some say its 3 star because they dont get the air pressure right. Once its aired up properly, it is luxurious for what it is.
Great work on the house, really amazing.
Home Sweet Home - The homestead is looking smick. 🙂
Try turns it won't hurt the glass😊
Scotch Pads and elbow grease for the windows.😊
Love watching..thank you for sharing 🙏
Perhaps Tilex or some mineral remover. It could be heavy mineral film. The place is looking GREAT!!!
❤ now after the lovely needed rain ... time to get out and detect gold run off into culverts... have fun
that glass could have bloom which often cannot be removed ... its in the glass itself not on the surface ... caused by age and high temperatures
Yes try CLR on the windows. From Bunnings or even Coles maybe?
The melamine sponges work really well on removing fog/hard water from glass.
Those are the same as the Magic Eraser brand, but the generic melamine is cheaper.
you can use a razer blade to to scrape the window with
Fine sos pads will work on those windows
I would try a razor blade on the windows. except the plexi glass ones.
Hi Chrissy! You might try lemon 🍋 on those hard water stains. Either cut a lemon in half, and use one half or combine distilled water, lemon juice, and ammonia to remove those stains. If that doesn't work, you'll have to resort to a commercially available glass cleaner like CLR (Calcium, Lime & Rust remover), or something along those lines.
Each time I watch, I can tell that your place is shaping up! I know it's a lot of work, but it is so rewarding when you get done. Hang in there, it'll be worth it. 😊
Where I live the town water supply is mainly bore water, and if you wash glass with the bore water and don't dry the glass straight away the stains get etched into the glass very quickly
Use fire ash and newspaper to clean the glass, it'll come up clean! 👍
Congrats guys!!
I’m jealous nice work
If it's paint on the window try 0000 steelwool with soapy water and if that dosent work use a razor blade. best of luck, cheers!
Very much enjoy your channel. Very down to earth and real. Love how little things give you pleasure
You should grab a large bottle of acetone for those hard cleaning jobs like glass etc.
It's very useful to have it on hand.
P.s I love those black headed green parrots, we don't have them here in N.S.W
Steel wool (0000) does a good job on Windows and no towel or liquid cleaner needed.
Good to see the old homestead coming to life...
Clean the windows with fine steel wool.
Get some clr or your equivalent of mineral build up remover used on water pipes and faucets
Looking good Krissy you 2 are really getting stuff done.
Its nice to have a roof overhead and some creature comforts around.
How lucky are you having underground water thats usable... Can you drink it or is it too brackish?
Rock on sister 😊 xx
Suck up those fkn spiders Chrissy we can’t stay til they’re gone 😉😂 Louise loves the pressed run the place is gona look a million bucks nicely done.
Thanks guys! I've never seen pressed tin walls before, they're not easy to clean
About those glass windows that don't seem to clean up, like you would want them to. My thoughts are that they have gone through," A Sand Blasting", over their years of being in their frames. Have Clint replace them all, or just stop being a perfectionist.
NICE VID. THANKS.........DJ...
Cheers, ordered a unit!
Awesome, I’m sure you’ll love it 😊
Lovely pressed metal walls, my grandfathers old place was corregated iron on the ouside wall's ' tounge& groove on the inside.
