The gold threads are basically when marika took death out of the land of shadows, because if u look at it the erdtree can only grow if it is given dead bodies. That would mean that marika was closely associated with the death bed companions

The cloaked woman in the painting COULD be the Gloam Eyed Queen, I didn't think of that. However she does look very similar to Fia and other Deathbed Companions. They're "from an unknown land" iirc, same as Tanith (the leader of the Recusants, described as a DANCER). . . I can't help but think the ShadowLand IS that land. Remember in the first gameplay trailer for the DLC we saw that red-robed figure dancing with a sword during a fight with I presume a player character. I always found it odd some of the NPCs were from lands with names (must be in the same realm as the Lands Between) while others were from "unknown" or "far away" lands. Deathbed Companions are shunned in The Lands Between IIRC, correlating with things such as snakes and Omen (all of which are VERY prominent in the Shadowlands). And finally I can't ignore how Rykard's boss room looks VERY SIMILAR to the opening shot of the trailer; gore and bodies everywhere, stacked in piles, flayed/burned skin. Not to mention homie's a literal snake lol.
I think we're going to get a lot of clarity & revelations in this one. Gonna be a good one, boys and girls.

I mean; these wars would explain why the Lands Between are so... empty. Between this and the Shattering, its no wonder the Erdtree was growing weak. If it feeds on the bodies of the dead, their runes perhaps, then no wonder its a faded remnant sending out minor erdtrees and seeds everywhere. We travel the lands and with a few exceptions, its empty cities, small camps of soldiers, burnt and broken homes long abandoned, empty overgrown farmsteads, and fields where possible former livestock just wander unattended.
Its got that Skyrim feeling of "okay, this city has like, fifteen people in it at *best*."

I too have come to the conclusion that Melina is not the daughter of Marika but of the Gloam Eyed Queen. I had the revelation while watching a video on an Italian channel in which he talked about the 3 butterflies that can be found in the Land Between and how the Smoldering Butterflies previously attributed to Melina could actually better represent Messmer. I always had suspicions about the fact that Melina was Marika's daughter, her hair for example she was the only one of Marika's children who didn't have blond or red hair but pale brown. But the little detail about the Butterflies put every single piece of the puzzle in place: Melina claiming to have been born and received her mission (burning the Erdtree) from her mother at the foot of the Erdtree, which we now know is in the Land of Shadow. Her Scar..It was never understood what "flames" had caused the scars that she has on her body, now in the trailer we see a woman linked to the Godskin Apostle who, while she is in despair, is consumed by Messmer's flames. Melina's connection with Torrent and his "spiritual" nature, like Melina he is also originally from the Land of Shadow (and probably like her, died during the "Purge").
I tried to explain this to the channel owner but he rejected it due to the fact that in a data mining it wa found the Melina's internal name is "Marika no musume" (Marika's daughter). But I tend to take data mining and cut content with a pinch of salt, there's a reason if some things didn't make it into the final game....

I think Messmer & Melina are the offspring of Midra & Marika. The fact that they both have kindling to ignite the erd tree & one of Messmer's items talking about "a sister". I believe she gave birth to Messmer and Melina before marrying Godfrey and allowed Messmer to accompany Godfrey to kill the fire giants and then banished him to the realm of shadows afterwards.

The connections between Miquella and Melenia makes sense also that Malenia would be the daughter of The Gloam Eyed Queen. But I don't think The Gloam Eyed Queen was killed by Marika in this moment since we know that she died by Maliketh and after the rune of death was separated from the elden ring. Which must have happened later in the timeline. So I'm not entirely convinced about that portion of your theory though I suppose The Gloam Eyed Queen could have been defeated but not killed at this moment of time.

This trailer SCREAMED Berserk to me ! It feels like we are in the “BlackSwords Arc” also in the first trailer there was literally a guy in the Guts “BlackSwordMan” Armor shooting the crossbow Guts had. I’m so hyped I’m gonna go back and read Berzerk again before this drops . Miquella gives me straight up Griffith vibes, the first trailer made it seem like we should fear him “How terrifying” now this trailer makes it seem like he’s this holy being . I’m still not sure how to feel about him and for some reason they are trying so hard to make Messmer look like the bad guy. Building him up to be this big bad guy who’s pure evil . I feel like he’s gonna have a good reason for the way he is, maybe Marika turned him into a monster then abandoned him possibly. And I’m so hyped to run with this new group of tanished! Truly does feel like we are gonna be a member of this “Band of Hawks” looking group , I feel like their / us the tanished are gonna get betrayed by him or have to make a decision to pick one of two endings maybe . One ending siding with Miquella and fullfill his goal (still not sure what his goal is possibly the eclipse of some sort to push him to Godhood like Marika since he’s empyrean) and he’s been pretty much following her exact same path & like you mentioned before they are very similar. The two half’s that share a body being saint trina & the creation of an ErdTree / Haligtree , and now going to the same place she achieved Godhood. I really think that’s his plan is to replace Marika. The process in which Marika became a God seems bloody, like a great purge, an absolute nightmare maybe she had to sacrifice someone she cared for as well? Someone like Messmer? Somewhat like the eclipse I feel we and this band of hawk looking group may be the sacrifice Miquella needs to achieve Godhood along with everyone else he has bewitched. Or , siding with Messmer possibly ending the era of the ErdTree that was founded upon a lie, death, and betrayal and bringing about a new Age and he ends up being not so bad in the end . I’m excited
Edited: also the first trailer made it seem like we were viewing Miquella from the perspective of someone who doesn’t see Miquella as this holy being, someone to be feared .
This trailer seems to be from the perspective of someone who worships Miquella, one of his followers who has been bewitched by his a-lore.
That’s also why I think we have two/multiple endings .

Yes, thank you, I totally agree that the burning figure is the daughter of the GEQ, who I believe to be Melina. I have been saying this in comments since the trailer came out lol. I came to the same conclusions about that shot being where she became burned and bodiless, and the GEQ's body being absorbed into the Erdtree being a way to explain how Melina's mother (whether GEQ or imprisoned Marika) is in the tree. It also explains how, after her burning deat in the lands of shadow, she was "born at the foot of the Erdtree" with foggy memories and given her purpose by her mother.
I want to say Melina is the product of a GEQ/Marika union (seduction/affair?) because of her unique gold and gloam eyes, and her access to Golden Order spells and ability to deliver Destined Death. This theory also fits with the file name for Melina referring to her being Marika's daughter, and explains why she would have deep knowledge of Marika's past words.

I think the theories are sound and I am almost certain we should get a new hubworld, because where else would you upgrade the different way of powering up for DLC section (if you can call whatever it is we will be doing powering up). Also a question is do you think we will be getting new places in the land of shadow or will it be like bloodborne where some of the places we know from the base game is just morphed slightly. I used to think this but if the land of shadow existed before marika crated the erdtree as theorised from the trailer, then perhaps she also created some of the loctions that are downhill from the capitol, or if not created changed the landscape quite a lot. Could perhaps be some sort of answer to why the big sculls are found in Caelid etc. I know this is WILD speculation. Don't remember much lore details on speaking of things before the erdtree so I might be missing something that could disprove this instantly, but maybe it is something to think about

  • @kalemnir

Wow, that is wholesome! I am sure that figure in flames (1:03) is the woman from that portrait, standing beside the man (someone in tumblr called him 'ouchlord' I like that😊), figured it out while wayching the trailer for the second time. Didn't think about her being GEQ, but wow... sounds reasonable! Never liked that 'Melina is GEQ' theory much, but her being her daughter (wanting revenge on the Golden Order and the Erdtree, being burnt thus not favoring flames) is solid!
I don't quite agree on St.Trina though. One of Miq's followers, that sleeping figure in the purple field, might be following her in the first place, not Miq... Also while Miq's trapped in the Land of Shadow, she may be his manifestation, appearing in the Lands Between, looking for aid, guiding others to him... that knight, again... IDK, we just have to wait and see who's right!

I do wonder, given the views of several Lore theories on this trailer, could Messmer actually be a child of Radagon and the Gloam-Eyed Queen. This is assuming Marika and Radagon could swap back and forth even back then, but if it's true, it explains how Messmer existed so long ago, why he has Radagon's red hair, and why he's still considered Marika's child. Like Enia says, "The Demigods are each and all the direct offspring of Queen Marika," this includes Ranni, Radhan, and Rykard.

@@square-table-gaming Placidusax is the first Elden Lord.
The Gloameyed Queen is an Empyrean (神人 lit godperson) and "ruled with Destined Death" a rune of the Elden Ring.
Meaning the Gloameyed Queen possessed the Elden Ring before Marika got her hands on it to take Destined Death out of it.
The words "queen" and "god" are used as nigh synonyms in Elden Ring.
And what is the husband of the god/queen who possesses the Elden Ring called? It's not king. It's Elden Lord.
This also explains why the Godskin Nobles have draconic physiology.

I know we have all tried to place Messmer’s birth and parentage in the timeline and make it fit, but it just occurred to me- why? Why does he need to be a child of Marika? Why can’t he be a husband? Marika has a history of putting her husbands away… this would explain the betrayal, seduction, and affair we hear. And I know Messmer refers to her as Mother, but it would not be amiss for any religion, cult, zealot, fanatic, or even royalty to want to be referred to as Mother. We have many modern day examples (Queen Elizabeth) where a population referred to her as queen mother or mum. And works of fiction, like a song of ice and fire, where the populace called Khaleesi “Meesa“ or Mother. Religions refer to their gods or goddesses in maternal and paternal ways. So again, I ask… what if Messmer was her first husband and waged this war for her. Then she betrayed and hid him away? Even would explain when Messmer taunts “wouldst thou lordship sanction in one so bereft of light?” as more derogatory and exasperated. Like “really? You left me and this is who is your consort?”

I think that the guiding knight is St. Trina in disguise . Elden ring had posted a new photo unmasking the leading knight of the followers and it is a female looking figure in blonde hair with the same braids as Miquella , so my guess it’s st Trina , disguised as a follower of Miquella after she was abandoned by him and we will have to kill her in the end to get to Miquella

Hold up. If St. Trina is part of what Miquella had to abandon to escape his empyrean status (above and beyond his body), did Ranni have to give up a similar persona? Or is she fundamentally different for being half blooded? Or... Are these persona-splinters the product of something that happens to empyreans, like Millicent and her sisters from Malenia? Elden ring has a crazy number of plant metaphores, are the alternate personas like offshoots caused by stress and not intentional? I'm starting to think the "empyreans are female aside from Miquella" is a false conclusion we based on the scarcity of them and Marika's huge personal fertility kink.

    • @square-table-gaming

Miquella splitting from St Trina is fundamentally different from Ranni splitting herself into a doll. Ranni killed her flesh using destined death so that her spirit could be freed and placed inside of a doll, we do not know exactly how Miquella separated himself from his fate.

Miquella is the eldest child, gold hair. So he was a husk before Marika met Godfrey. Melania’s twin is Mesmer, they both have red hair and Melania never calls Miquella her twin. That would mean the fell god and the scarlet rot god infected the twins.

Im still ride or die on Miquella IS Mesmmer. The story trailer only reaffirmed it. Which I kinda hoped there would be something that unequivocally broke it given how much shit I have caught over expressing it online. (some rightly so due to presentation) But it is what it is and nothing breaks it.
With that, while everyone points to the bracelet confirming Marika, The bracelet is NOT present in the next scene whilst holding the golden tendrils hewn from the gods. The figure is DEEPLY masculine build and even haves Miquellas signature braid.
Now what I take away is that Marika was the first Godskin. THe "shadowlands" are INSIDE the erdtree (along with some serious tardis geometry)
That Miquella is no more and we are following Miquellas ghost of sorts. Miquella made pilgrimage to the shadowlands and it was there he hatched the plan to divest of gold and invest in shadow. Then returning to the Hailag tree in order to be "unbirthed" int Mesmmer and the rune we see is miquellas rune which by absolutely no coincidence what so ever is the spear of the elden ring form.
I liked the theories presented but it all feel a bit too predicated on communal assumptions, like Melina is the gloam eyed queen and similar "accepted" theories that have never been confirmed.

@@square-table-gaming Apologies, I did not mean to insinuate that. It was the most recognizable "accepted" theory that most the community at large has just gone along with cause it on paper makes sense. So for my end it was just as a reference point to all the many "accepted" theories. Admittedly a lazy error on my part.
