I feel like too many people have forgotten Fleetway's origins of being a Sonic from official Sonic comics where if Sonic is stressed, he appears. I feel people see him as an EXE more than an official character.
Top-notch Photoshop job here, would love to get into Photoshop but I'm broke (and not even legally allowed to work yet) and it seems tough. The cuts between Fleetway and normal Sonic are a nice added touch that seem to be very well-appreciated in this comment section.

You did quite a good job, I can see the commitment behind it. I would advise against just shading with black, or a darker version of the same colour. It doesn't carry the tone of the environment, and in turn, can be a lot duller than it needs to be. In addition to that, shadows in real life are rarely just _black._ I would suggest taking the atmosphere into consideration, and choosing a colour based off of that, from there you can just try a multiply layer, or mess around with it a bit with other blend modes. (õ∀ó )ゝ That said, you did a nice job following the shape you were already given, and adding additional depth. Just generally speaking in art you almost never want to use flat black or flat white, unless it's for a stylistic choice or a very specific scenario. The added filter by the end helped to add some tint to the shadows as well, so definitely not a bad final product I'd say. ( ´◡‿◡`)✧
