No matter how times he dies he'll forever be trapped under the Labyrinth Zone hoping for something, or Someone to rescue him even if it takes him days, weeks, years, or decades to be free from this never ending nightmare of pain. Also no he can't spindash he's way out cause since this takes place in Sonic the hedgehog 1 and the spindash move wasn't created yet, and Tails, Amy, Ray, Mighty, nor Knuckles aren't in Sonic 1 so all he can do is wait and hope for something or someone to save him from his never ending pain. Edit: also the reason why he can't die and respawn is because his soul won't let him, and stop responding mean stuff to me please, also If you're confused about this lore then Try solving the fnaf lore.
I mean, they used a more realistic model of an Anti-Ship mine, so probably they couldn't find anything that matched what they were looking for any better

its all the same suffering, he'd have ptsd and never be able to look at water without remembering this experience for probably the rest of his life unless he finds a good enough therapist to cure it
