Okay, for people who doesn't know about this version of Sonic. This version of Sonic is an Exe but unlike the other Exe's who are Possessed, or corrupted version of Sonic he's a friendly Exe who has caught himself in a series of unfortunate events that lead him chained and trapped in a mine deep below the Labyrinth Zone. No matter how times he dies he'll forever be trapped under the Labyrinth Zone hoping for something, or Someone to rescue him even if it takes him days, weeks, years, or decades to be free from this never ending nightmare of pain. Also no he can't spindash he's way out cause since this takes place in Sonic the hedgehog 1 and the spindash move wasn't created yet, and Tails, Amy, Ray, Mighty, nor Knuckles aren't in Sonic 1 so all he can do is wait and hope for something or someone to save him from his never ending pain.
Edit: also the reason why he can't die and respawn is because his soul won't let him, and stop responding mean stuff to me please, also If you're confused about this lore then Try solving the fnaf lore.
Due to his will to live every time he either can’t drown or when he does, he comes back to life
And what about Eggman

Now I’m just wondering how the game story go like obviously Sega would not allow their main character/mascot go through this type of torment but still would it start out you playing a sonic and then once you reach labyrinth zone he gets trapped and then it goes to a cut scene where it says title screen years later or something and Dr. Eggman took over Mobius or the world leaving now tales to be playable and then he encounters sonic who is now Zombofied

If sink ever did get saved, you can damn well guarantee he'll be hydrophobic for the rest of his life, and I don't mean like "oh no, I don't like deep water, ahhh" I mean he'd be so traumatized, he won't even be able to get in a kids pool without having a panic attack
