      You made a great choice Terry . I'm moving Phuket soon & think I may buy the same bike . Can I get it in Automatic? Any downfalls to having a auto? Maybe just get a large scooter? Did you see any large scooters that were nice? Enjoy & be safe always

    • @terrycavender

      @@adventuresfloridatothailan5217 nope, this is a manual shift. I was looking at the large scooters, Yamaha XMax, Honda Forza, Suzuki Burgman, because I was wanting to travel all over Thailand, I have several friends here. For local stuff scooters in the 125 to 150cc range will work just fine. My pick would be the Yamaha NMax because it has dual channel ABS.

      Your Royal Enfield is a great choice for touring for sure. For very short rides around town, you could look at electric bikes, they are getting better and better, just don't go for the cheapest ones. I bought one a few weeks ago, doing around 35 to 40 kph with about 50km of autonomy, more than enough for short trips around town. Love the silence also. Just my 2 cents.

    My friend bought this exact royal Enfield about 15 years ago. He had it imported from India. He had import duties to pay, had to pick it up at the shipping port near Long Beach California.
    Then found out he couldn’t register it in California it didn’t meet EPA laws. It was a big drama. He got it all sorted out. But his $3000 bike from India actually cost him about $7500.
    The shifter was on the right hand side and it was slow. Its top speed was about 50 miles an hour. He modified several things on the bike. I believe it reaches about 65 miles an hour now.
    The biggest kick in the teeth was, there was a Royal Enfield dealer right next-door to California in Arizona. These Royal Infields had a left side shifter specifically made for United States. The price tag for the same bike in Arizona was $4500.
    He still owns the Royal Enfield. He also owns a Norton Commando which he bought when he was 18 brand new. It’s 46 years old. He also added a Triumph to his collection.
    He entered all the bikes in English motorcycle contests here in California. And has won many trophies.
    His daily rider is a Harley Davison
    He and I grew up together we were neighbors live two houses apart. I met him when I was four years old and he was six years old. I watched him start off with a minibike move up to dirt bikes. I’ve been there to watch him buy every motorcycle he owns.

      @@KJJMedia there isnt really vat if you buy second hand... Import tax in Thailand is very high to encourage local production so I really wouldn't advise buying an imported bike, it can double the price I think. Plenty of bikes are made in Thailand and therefore more reasonably priced. Used to be only smaller bikes 10 years ago but now there are bigger one too and brands like Royal Enfield, Triumph or Ducati make bikes in Thailand.

    I've ridden the Classic, Meteor, Interceptor and Himalayan at RE Pattaya ride out day back in late December. For the money the Classic stood out as a great solid bike, OK in town, just about enough power to tour around Thailand, not enough to get yourself in trouble, all for not much more than a top spec PCX.

    Hi Lucas. Nice video, I enjoyed it very much.
    For touring the Royal Enfield Himalayan probably would be the best choice because it is good on unpaved roads as well as on paved roads. But a Himalayan is not a typical classic RE. I do own a RE 500 Classic. It's an old style British bike. It has gear shift on the right side, brake on the left. First gear up and all other down. For city use or touring the RE 500 classic or the 650 Interceptor could be a good choice if someone wants a classic bike. For one person the 350 might be enough but for two or when much baggage is loaded on the bike I would prefer the 500.
    Oh just by the way. Here in Switzerland I drive the XT 1200 Z Yamaha Super Ténéré. A great touring bike for Europe. It's powerful, fast on highways and it is a rival of the BMW 1200 GS. Most definitely the XT 1200 Z is too heavy for Asia. In Thailand most probably I would choose a 650 Japanese Touring bike with side cases.
    Thanks for your vid. Greets, enjoy life in beautiful Thailand and be well.

    More great info. Lucas, you know about bikes and cars; seems that your friend is an experienced rider. For the less experienced rider in Asia, a step-through scooter is better for around town, with an auto trans. A few of those Indian bikes looked alright, but I wonder about the quality. I'll watch for that video. Nice that Vee made a surprise appearance. Enjoying a stay in Pattaya is much greater with a vehicle. Cheers!

      In the past the quality of REs was erratic but they've raise their quality control in the last few years. The 650 Interceptor has been the 2nd most popular bike (not including scooters) in the UK behind the Big BMW GS for the last few years.

Would be interested in a vid on how to mothball a bike in case you have to leave the country for extended periods of time, and how to bring it back to life on return... tks

    Thanks for the video. I might add a Royal Enfield in the future to my collection, when I get rid of my cars (necessary evil when you have children...). For now I am a Honda fan, the service cost / availability and the reliability of my bikes prevent me from looking elsewhere... For now. Thanks for the video again, always entertaining, and I know they require some work, appreciate it.

    • @MrFabtahiti
      @MrFabtahiti 2 года назад

      Speed in Thailand in not really advisable... You can't access toll ways on motorbikes here, so your speed limit is often around 100kph, a 350cc is more than enough for him riding alone, he seems to be quite light. To be honest for daily use, even the 150cc scooter are enough for the roads here.

    • @Rides4Kickz
      @Rides4Kickz  2 года назад +1

      Yes, once in a while you will see one, more than likely they were imported by a private person. Don't think they were ever sold here, so it will depend on the validity of the registration and the condition, hard to put a price on them.

    • @craigg4925

      @@Rides4Kickz yeah, I had one back in the 80s and had a lot of fun on it, most people did not know what they were so someone on a sport bike would think it was fast and would be talking about how fast it was, and I could just say that my stock cruiser is faster than that thing, and it would be on, and after, they would just be standing there with their mouth wide open asking what the hell just happen. I did have the 1985 so it was the first year for the V-max, so no one had even saw one before. god it was fun.

    Super interested in this video, taking it forward what is the situation re electric motorbikes? Are they available? Are condos set up with charging points? Are there chargibg points in public places? My research (last year) says Thailand is wanting to lead the electric vehicle revolution but are 5 years or so behind the UK...what do you think?

    • @Rides4Kickz
