I feel like a lot of people take the Hetalia characters at their most basic surface level, forgetting that they are literally the embodiments of nations and have withstood centuries of conflict. I believe that this song really delves deeper into Russia's character and shows more than what we see in the manga/anime. I really wish there was stuff like this for other characters.
I think Hima has been showing ever since the very early strips that when it comes to Russia there's always more than meets the eye. Like, when his heart fell off, and the Gloomy Sunday strip. Those are OLD.
@@mawichan if you look closely to the kitawiki of some characters you'll get fast that he isn't the only one that Hima deepened. For example look at the kitawiki of America :) there's a mention about the fact that he doesn't read the atmosphere only because he doesn't want to. It's also written that during a Christmas(?)he couldn't help but feel quite sad when seeing kids with their parents(or something like that) because he grew up so fast that he didn't enjoy the happiness of childhood etc and there's other stuffs. But for the fact that he gets what's going on you just need to look at the recent comic strip about the presidency(dunno the english word sowwy). For Germany there's already Einsamkeit that clears up the fact that he isn't a heartless who doesn't want to smile and wants just order. For Prussia and Canada there's also a lot of stuffs. And the last scans on hetascanlations are about Canada and how he met England etc so really Hima is great at this point haha. Maybe not everyone has been showing his deep side but it's probably because of their number etc :)
Mangatique Miko Oh I totally agree! A lot of characters have come a long way. Though in my original comment I wasn't adressing character development. I was just thinking that out of the mostly goofy characters and events Russia always seemed odd to me. Like, some comedy shows include a character with a sad past and is played as a joke for dark humour (like the school janitor from the simpson that sometimes casually drops anecdotes of his life in old rural UK. But with Russia I got the impression that the author had more in mind that dark humor. And maybe that could have been actually the case for everyone, (France comes to mind) as the very first 5 chapters of hetalia (somewhat like pilot chapters) were headed to a more serious direction before Himaruya changed it into something more lighthearted. It's just that lol, I'm not saying he's the only developed character, and for that I'm very greatful! Especially for America now that you mention him. Prussia is easily among the most fleshed out characters! Hahaha I'd know, I've been into hetalia since 2011 or so.
@@mawichan oh I honestly never see this in this way it's quite interesting and the fact that France is kinda in the same boat but in a different wave of humour strenghtens that, yes! Maybe he wanted to diversify the show by making some characters out of the theme( I don't know if it's even English what I'm saying xD) but it's kinda sad that there's only a few interesting episodes on the anime version (btw I beg you to not look after one of the Christmas event because of a picture you'll get a whole new perspective of France xDD)

I've been in the Hetalia fandom since late 2008 and I've always had this fascination with the character of Russia. The country itself is complex, rich, and filled with contradictions, which one would find difficult to put onto a single character. I remember in the beginning, Russia was played off as some kind of childish psychopath, but as time went on, he evolved in a way that many of the other Hetalia characters have not. I wish that fanfic writers or RPers would go that extra mile to fully comprehend Russia beyond what we've been given in snippets within the anime universe. As someone who has a long history of role playing Latvia, I've encountered so many one-dimensional depictions of Russia, and it's an honest shame. I've only ever encountered one Russia RPer who understood the complexity of Russia's character as well as his history as a country, and how I enjoyed that time we spent! All of Russia's songs stand as proof not of his duality, but of his incredibly deep character. This song in particular, with its give and take between moods and themes, moving through various points as though disjointed, shows the depth of his character in a way that the anime could never touch on. The comic itself has highlighted his layers with mention of certain points within Russia's history, but even these minor elaborations do little to ground Russia solidly. Instead, we get something beautiful and long to express the depth of Russia's character, and just how wounded he is despite the twinge of hope pinned delicately upon each line that is sung. I've been in this fandom for such a long time, and this song truly highlights just how deep Hetalia could become if certain dark alleys were traversed, but due to the nature of it being a comedy series, such darkness and sadness can only truly be expressed within these character songs, which breath into characters, such as Russia, a life that could only be deduced by the fandom rather than seen as something inherent to the character in canon. Those few remaining seconds at the end of this song nail down that aforementioned disjointed mood, illuminating that perhaps there is more yet to learn about Russia - that there is still much left unseen and unheard underneath those smiles of his. I am so grateful that this song exists within the canon.

I love just reading the extra fan-made things about Russia but always find myself being intensely disturbed by the way they only interpret one side of him, (cute or dark). The country itself has a long histroy that left many marks that are present today and indeed really make difficulity to put everything in one character. Again, thak you for understanding Russia and not thinking he's a psychopat of some sort. I really took a liking on him since the beggining of the show and I was always interested in what other people think about him. And from what I have seen, only few people could understand the truth behind Russia's personality. And you're one of them.

+Random Hobbyist 1412 You're welcome! As for tips on playing Latvia... he, too, is also a very complex character who's gone through a lot of hardship and seen a lot of death and destruction. One thing I see people do is have him st-st-stammer way too much. Even in the comics he doesn't stutter very often. Beyond that, it's a lot of just figuring out how to balance between his extremes. He can be childish and petty, but also very mature and caring. He's sweet, but he isn't exactly innocent. He can be very imaginative and a day dreamer, but he's also very grounded and highly intelligent. He has a tongue that bites. He has all these things that seem incongruous, because he is an ancient being inhabiting the body of a boy who is in an awkward stage in teenage years. It makes it tricky to strike a balance between him being far too wise or far too childish that I still find myself having a hard time to navigate. So... I guess my tips are don't stutter too much and keep a good balance between maturity and childishness! Good luck with playing Latvia! He really is a joy to play once you get comfortable with him. ^^
I just realized something. This song is about Russia's feelings right ? But several (3) times throughout the song it almost stops, as if starting a new song. So, random idea here, what if each part of the song we're going through one part of his mind and when it stops we reach the next layer. The fourth layer (the last couple seconds of the song) is very shallow but very haunting. The second and third are slightly connected and the transition isn't as noticeable since they're the middle layers. The first is the one where there's the most singing too. Btw the fanart for this was fantastic.

I think instead of purely different emotions, the song is addressing different history moments of Russia. Like around 13:00 ,I think this music represents the reborn of Russia, after the Soviet Union cracked down. And the more terrifying and strong music before that, represents the formation of the strong Soviet Union, with lots of allies(?)and the power compatable with the US.
Ive theorized that Russia talks in a higher tone on purpose because of this one episode I think in season 2 where his voice all of a sudden got really deep
Russia is the reason why I wish I was in hetalia, I'd do anything to stop his loneliness. He's my favorite character, seeing him so sad and lonely just makes me want to be his best friend, to be there for him, so he doesn't cry alone.

I genuinely want every character to have a song such as this. There is so convincing me that what we see of Hetalia in the anime and the manga is totally all there is. You can’t ever convince me that Veleziano (North Italy) is as entirely “stupid”, “Immature”, or as “totally cheerful” as he depicts himself to be. Despite everything, he’s a country too and he’s seen more things than we as real life people could ever possibly endure. You can’t tell me that Japan has always been a silent, polite, and cool headed character as he depicts himself to be. You can’t tell me that Germany is always calm headed and angry all of the time. You can’t tell me that America is only a cheerful air headed guy who is obnoxious You can’t tell me that England is the perfect gentleman with no troubles. And you can not *ever* convince me that the countries are all how they first depict themselves to be. There is absolutely no way in this entire universe that every single one of the countries haven’t hard their darkest of times, and are still effected by them to this day. They’re countries, “immortal” beings. They’ve seen millions of wars, feel the pain that their citizens feel, seen humans die and life go by and slip away from their fingers as all they can do it watch and just know that they can’t disappear unless their country disappears with them. Which none of them would ever want, because wether we all like it or not the harsh reality is that their countries aren’t truly based around their personifications. They’re based around the people in the countries. Personifications, compared to the people in society, take the back seat in this life. And that’s truly their tragedy

I joined the Hetalia fandom sometime back in September, and ever since then, Russia was the only character out of the Axis/Allies that I couldn't really comprehend. After watching this out of curiosity, though... I feel like I understand the true depth of his incredibly complex character far more than before. Given what Hetalia is usually like in the anime and the manga, it still comes to me as a surprise that such moving material is produced by the same studio. With the release of the new anime season, I hope we'll be able to see more deep content such as this regarding the other characters.

I'd really appreciate it uwu Yeah, unfortunately it seems to be a trend in many fandoms - including Hetalia - to gang up on (a) misunderstood character(s) and turn them into nothing short of a monster; Germany is my favourite character and the amount of times I've seen him portrayed as an evil Nazi with no concern for others and/or abusive to Italy or others is pretty sad. I honestly think Russia has it a lot worse off, though, given his rather enigmatic and often-misunderstood nature. 3: such is the complexity of these characters and their history.
I have a theory about this song. So we all can hear the slight pauses in the song, yeah? I think that each part is just going a little bit further into Russia’s head one by one. I was reading the lyrics, and from the first time hearing this I immediately noticed how the song, yes did start of horribly depressing, but was slightly lighter than the rest of the song. As we continue on, the lyrics only become darker and darker, some going into more detail then the rest. Heck, there are even some parts in the song where Russia’s lyrics/sentence seems to put a pause on some of the things he’s saying because he’s saying too much, or it’s just so unbearable to hear out loud that he just doesn’t want it to be out in the open. Each part of the song is just Russia going deeper and deeper into his broken mind, and it only gets worse and worse as it progresses and it’s almost like a downward spiral. This whole song is really special to me. It deeply reminds me of spilled ink. Once Ivan started taking about all of his problems, it just spilled out. Everything he’s been hiding for so long, all of the things he’s been through being spilled out for us to hear is finally being heard. It may sound strange. But I feel as if this is sort of Ivan’s final lament. No I’m not saying that he’s dying or anything. But I just think that this is the last time Ivan is really going to open his mouth about his mind after this. He’s just been through too much to keep going.
It's sad how many people don't realize how deep Russia's character is... I mean, when I first watched the anime, I got vibes that there was a lot more to the character, but I didn't dwell on it for too long. Then I started paying more attention to him and I just... feel the feels.

The song describes his personality so perfectly and i don't think that someone on this earth can say he's a violent, bloodthirsty, insane Killer, because he isn't. He's just missunderstood and wants someone how helps him with his problems. There are so much fanfiction out where he's a killer or a rapist. And that's so completely false! Because he isn't, he's a really nice person, with a kind, childish side. But he has to hide it, because the other people on this earth are fearing and bullying him. Who is the psychopath here? The other countries or he? I think the others are....
Every country has its psychotic side to it since all of them consist of all kinds of people. The richest are usually corrupted in government and economy but still have nice people living there, which, if you depict a whole country as one person, results in bipolar portrayals. That means Russia is psychotic as well as the rest of the world. There is no innocence in any country if you want to personify every aspect of it. Although in reality that means no country is better than the other and there definitely needs to be more respect towards Russia in western society.
Definitely has something to tell about Russia, not just as the personification but the country whole. Somehow I believe many can relate to this state of mind, even though we passed it. Him being a nation, meaning immortal, has to bear the pain of war and that alike. I mean, you understand what I had originally meant. Sometimes people really do need that one hug to save them.

Russia is probably one of the deepest characters in ANIME history, not just Hetalia history, I'm talking about like full on anime history. Basically he's been walking through snow for god knows how long, just looking for a friend, but he can't find one and since he's a country and can't die, he's just been feeling pain and coldness for all that time, and watching people freeze do death from the cold and been lonely and only seen snow for most of his life just walking through a forest of some sort where its like, -30 something degrees. And since he's seen many wars and watched so many people pass away, no wonder why he's so.. like he is now.

After really looking into who Russia is as a person, I've noticed how he connects to me as a person. Constant loneliness, the rumors of how he is a "crazy psycho killer".... Russia is extremely misunderstood, and it makes me very upset that the Axis treats him the way they do. Russia isn't a psycho, nor is he a murderer. He's simply childishly cruel. He thinks everything is a game. He doesn't understand when he may be hurting someone. It's truly sad to think that no one understands him.... It's even sadder to recognize how much I relate to Russia.
I got to say, this has been the only song in the entire Fandom that really digs in to the character's heart, which I respect. People nowadays are pretty racist towards this nation, only using stereotypes as evidence. And yes, I'm not only pointing out to the character, I'm also pointing out to the real country itself. I am Russian, and maybe I'm a little prejudiced, but Russia is the most interesting character of Hetalia. The strangest thing for me is how accurately Russia transfers my condition. Even on the hottest summer day, winter is always inside me. The authors were able to convey in Ivan a very important component of the soul of Russian person - longing. Что-то я прямо расчувствовался. I love the power, the deep emotions and the feels of this song! It left me stunned and in wonder and thought. I would do anything to be by his side forever if he allowed me.
This song has really made me think. It's made me think about how in love I am with these characters and how greatly they've affected my interests. How their personalities and actions leave such a big mark on me. Then, I think about how they aren't real. How, I'll never get to meet them in person, and it breaks me to bits. I want so bad for those fanfictions to be real, to actually meet them in a different world, and join in the happy times and the sad times, the struggles that the creator puts in the anime and that is imagined by young authors, to be there for them. It's so hard to live with the thought of how my love for these characters is unrealistic and will never happen, and all of that love I give, going to waste. Even though I should be grateful for what I have and how good of a life I have compared to others, I can't help but to feel this way, whether I regret feeling this way or not. I hope I speak for everyone affected by this stupid anime. If not, well, won't I feel embarrassed. In the end, I will be forever grateful to Hidekaz Himaruya.
That's super depressing. I feel this way, too. I get too attached to fictional worlds and I want to be a part of them SO BADLY I just want to scream, yet, I think this means I am surrounded by people that can't make me happy enough? I know I’m quite late to join this fandom (I only joined about 7 months ago). I recently ended the anime and now since I’m craving content I’m going trough the songs and I usually skipped this song since I didn’t want to sit here during 17 minutes. I never really tried to see Russia’s character in depth, I always thought that he was just as he was depicted on the surface. I knew that he was bullied, I felt bad, then I forgot about it. This is truly heartbreaking, it deserves the 17 minutes of your time. It makes you feel the complexity that is being a nation, the pain of being so isolated, unappreciated. Thank you to this song. Hima doesn't make the episodes, he draws the manga strips, Studio DEEN makes the episodes. The thing is, Hima's manga strips usually aren't that long, so neither are the episodes.

It's a heart-breaking piece of work, I wish he was real so that I could hold him close and tell him he'd never have to be lonely again. But I guess in a sense he is real. There are people just like Vanya here in our world and all of us should work hard to find them and make their lives a little bit easier by giving them a shoulder to cry on, and a friend. Hugs when they need it and smiles all the time. To me, Ivan is not just the personification of Russia. An people wonder why Russia is one of my favorites and why I stand up for him when people call him evil. Hell I've even done that to my mom, I said "oh and also Russia I one of my favorites." And she says "but Russia is just evil.." I said "Mom never call Russia evil ever again never I never want to hear that again he just had a rough child hood and since he is bigger than the others he sometimes can be rough but he is a kind and adorable person!" This is so sad.... I really feel bad for Russia. He's been through so much and his potrayal in the fandom is just a psycho killer, but he really isn't. He just wants to be happy but he's just hurt to the point where he hangs on to the slightest bit of hope and just wants friends to be there for him, but everyone is scared and it hurts him even more. Through all the lines, you can almost feel the sadness in the words. And the happier lyrics? There's sadness there too. I read all the lyrics and almost felt like crying because he's so lonely.

The memories my early years make me cry every time I think of them. I have flashbacks and actually talk to them. I act like I don't care but every time I get home from school I cry or wish I could switch body's with my beautiful friends who are a little afraid of me but know I'll never hurt them.

I'd been expecting this song, just by the sound of it, to be darker and serious. But I hadn't been expecting this. Himaruya's given us some peeks into the depth and sad pasts of the characters behind the silliness of Hetalia, but never like this. You can sense his conflicted feelings of hopelessness yet his strong desire to still hope for something better despite his horrible past. This makes him so much more real; so much more human. i like how his song is kind of disembodied it changes randomly like mood swings but it still feels normal in a sense kinda like russia's personality he is a childish character who has a messed up past and is hard to understand and they way people in the anime sees him makes us think he is a bad person who is evil when in reality he just doesn't understand what is right or wrong or who to react properly to some things

I feel like a lot of people take the Hetalia characters at their most basic surface level, forgetting that they are literally the embodiments of nations and have withstood centuries of conflict. I believe that this song really delves deeper into Russia's character and shows more than what we see in the manga/anime. I really wish there was stuff like this for other characters.
I think Hima has been showing ever since the very early strips that when it comes to Russia there's always more than meets the eye. Like, when his heart fell off, and the Gloomy Sunday strip. Those are OLD.
@@mawichan if you look closely to the kitawiki of some characters you'll get fast that he isn't the only one that Hima deepened. For example look at the kitawiki of America :) there's a mention about the fact that he doesn't read the atmosphere only because he doesn't want to. It's also written that during a Christmas(?)he couldn't help but feel quite sad when seeing kids with their parents(or something like that) because he grew up so fast that he didn't enjoy the happiness of childhood etc and there's other stuffs. But for the fact that he gets what's going on you just need to look at the recent comic strip about the presidency(dunno the english word sowwy). For Germany there's already Einsamkeit that clears up the fact that he isn't a heartless who doesn't want to smile and wants just order. For Prussia and Canada there's also a lot of stuffs. And the last scans on hetascanlations are about Canada and how he met England etc so really Hima is great at this point haha. Maybe not everyone has been showing his deep side but it's probably because of their number etc :)
Mangatique Miko Oh I totally agree! A lot of characters have come a long way. Though in my original comment I wasn't adressing character development. I was just thinking that out of the mostly goofy characters and events Russia always seemed odd to me. Like, some comedy shows include a character with a sad past and is played as a joke for dark humour (like the school janitor from the simpson that sometimes casually drops anecdotes of his life in old rural UK. But with Russia I got the impression that the author had more in mind that dark humor. And maybe that could have been actually the case for everyone, (France comes to mind) as the very first 5 chapters of hetalia (somewhat like pilot chapters) were headed to a more serious direction before Himaruya changed it into something more lighthearted.
It's just that lol, I'm not saying he's the only developed character, and for that I'm very greatful! Especially for America now that you mention him. Prussia is easily among the most fleshed out characters! Hahaha I'd know, I've been into hetalia since 2011 or so.

I've been in the Hetalia fandom since late 2008 and I've always had this fascination with the character of Russia. The country itself is complex, rich, and filled with contradictions, which one would find difficult to put onto a single character. I remember in the beginning, Russia was played off as some kind of childish psychopath, but as time went on, he evolved in a way that many of the other Hetalia characters have not. I wish that fanfic writers or RPers would go that extra mile to fully comprehend Russia beyond what we've been given in snippets within the anime universe. As someone who has a long history of role playing Latvia, I've encountered so many one-dimensional depictions of Russia, and it's an honest shame. I've only ever encountered one Russia RPer who understood the complexity of Russia's character as well as his history as a country, and how I enjoyed that time we spent!
All of Russia's songs stand as proof not of his duality, but of his incredibly deep character. This song in particular, with its give and take between moods and themes, moving through various points as though disjointed, shows the depth of his character in a way that the anime could never touch on. The comic itself has highlighted his layers with mention of certain points within Russia's history, but even these minor elaborations do little to ground Russia solidly. Instead, we get something beautiful and long to express the depth of Russia's character, and just how wounded he is despite the twinge of hope pinned delicately upon each line that is sung. I've been in this fandom for such a long time, and this song truly highlights just how deep Hetalia could become if certain dark alleys were traversed, but due to the nature of it being a comedy series, such darkness and sadness can only truly be expressed within these character songs, which breath into characters, such as Russia, a life that could only be deduced by the fandom rather than seen as something inherent to the character in canon. Those few remaining seconds at the end of this song nail down that aforementioned disjointed mood, illuminating that perhaps there is more yet to learn about Russia - that there is still much left unseen and unheard underneath those smiles of his. I am so grateful that this song exists within the canon.

I love just reading the extra fan-made things about Russia but always find myself being intensely disturbed by the way they only interpret one side of him, (cute or dark). The country itself has a long histroy that left many marks that are present today and indeed really make difficulity to put everything in one character. I really took a liking on him since the beggining of the show and I was always interested in what other people think about him. You're welcome! As for tips on playing Latvia... he, too, is also a very complex character who's gone through a lot of hardship and seen a lot of death and destruction. One thing I see people do is have him st-st-stammer way too much. Even in the comics he doesn't stutter very often. Beyond that, it's a lot of just figuring out how to balance between his extremes. He can be childish and petty, but also very mature and caring. He's sweet, but he isn't exactly innocent. He can be very imaginative and a day dreamer, but he's also very grounded and highly intelligent. He has a tongue that bites. He has all these things that seem incongruous, because he is an ancient being inhabiting the body of a boy who is in an awkward stage in teenage years. It makes it tricky to strike a balance between him being far too wise or far too childish that I still find myself having a hard time to navigate.
So... I guess my tips are don't stutter too much and keep a good balance between maturity and childishness! Good luck with playing Latvia! He really is a joy to play once you get comfortable with him. ^^
I just realized something. This song is about Russia's feelings right ? But several (3) times throughout the song it almost stops, as if starting a new song. So, random idea here, what if each part of the song we're going through one part of his mind and when it stops we reach the next layer. The fourth layer (the last couple seconds of the song) is very shallow but very haunting. The second and third are slightly connected and the transition isn't as noticeable since they're the middle layers. The first is the one where there's the most singing too. Btw the fanart for this was fantastic.

Like around 13:00 ,I think this music represents the reborn of Russia, after the Soviet Union cracked down. And the more terrifying and strong music before that, represents the formation of the strong Soviet Union, with lots of allies(?)and the power compatable with the US.

There is so convincing me that what we see of Hetalia in the anime and the manga is totally all there is.
You can’t ever convince me that Veleziano (North Italy) is as entirely “stupid”, “Immature”, or as “totally cheerful” as he depicts himself to be.
Despite everything, he’s a country too and he’s seen more things than we as real life people could ever possibly endure.
You can’t tell me that Japan has always been a silent, polite, and cool headed character as he depicts himself to be.
You can’t tell me that Germany is always calm headed and angry all of the time.
You can’t tell me that America is only a cheerful air headed guy who is obnoxious
You can’t tell me that England is the perfect gentleman with no troubles.
And you can not *ever* convince me that the countries are all how they first depict themselves to be. There is absolutely no way in this entire universe that every single one of the countries haven’t hard their darkest of times, and are still effected by them to this day.
They’re countries, “immortal” beings. They’ve seen millions of wars, feel the pain that their citizens feel, seen humans die and life go by and slip away from their fingers as all they can do it watch and just know that they can’t disappear unless their country disappears with them.
Which none of them would ever want, because wether we all like it or not the harsh reality is that their countries aren’t truly based around their personifications.
They’re based around the people in the countries.
Personifications, compared to the people in society, take the back seat in this life.
And that’s truly their tragedy

I joined the Hetalia fandom sometime back in September, and ever since then, Russia was the only character out of the Axis/Allies that I couldn't really comprehend. After watching this out of curiosity, though... I feel like I understand the true depth of his incredibly complex character far more than before.
Given what Hetalia is usually like in the anime and the manga, it still comes to me as a surprise that such moving material is produced by the same studio. With the release of the new anime season, I hope we'll be able to see more deep content such as this regarding the other characters.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems to be a trend in many fandoms - including Hetalia - to gang up on (a) misunderstood character(s) and turn them into nothing short of a monster; Germany is my favourite character and the amount of times I've seen him portrayed as an evil Nazi with no concern for others and/or abusive to Italy or others is pretty sad. I honestly think Russia has it a lot worse off, though, given his rather enigmatic and often-misunderstood nature. 3: such is the complexity of these characters and their history.

I have a theory about this song.
So we all can hear the slight pauses in the song, yeah?
I think that each part is just going a little bit further into Russia’s head one by one.
I was reading the lyrics, and from the first time hearing this I immediately noticed how the song, yes did start of horribly depressing, but was slightly lighter than the rest of the song.
As we continue on, the lyrics only become darker and darker, some going into more detail then the rest.
Heck, there are even some parts in the song where Russia’s lyrics/sentence seems to put a pause on some of the things he’s saying because he’s saying too much, or it’s just so unbearable to hear out loud that he just doesn’t want it to be out in the open.
Each part of the song is just Russia going deeper and deeper into his broken mind, and it only gets worse and worse as it progresses and it’s almost like a downward spiral.
This whole song is really special to me. It deeply reminds me of spilled ink.
Once Ivan started taking about all of his problems, it just spilled out. Everything he’s been hiding for so long, all of the things he’s been through being spilled out for us to hear is finally being heard.
It may sound strange. But I feel as if this is sort of Ivan’s final lament.
No I’m not saying that he’s dying or anything. But I just think that this is the last time Ivan is really going to open his mouth about his mind after this.

Every country has its psychotic side to it since all of them consist of all kinds of people. The richest are usually corrupted in government and economy but still have nice people living there, which, if you depict a whole country as one person, results in bipolar portrayals. That means Russia is psychotic as well as the rest of the world. There is no innocence in any country if you want to personify every aspect of it.
Although in reality that means no country is better than the other and there definitely needs to be more respect towards Russia in western society.

Russia is probably one of the deepest characters in ANIME history, not just Hetalia history, I'm talking about like full on anime history. Basically he's been walking through snow for god knows how long, just looking for a friend, but he can't find one and since he's a country and can't die, he's just been feeling pain and coldness for all that time, and watching people freeze do death from the cold and been lonely and only seen snow for most of his life just walking through a forest of some sort where its like, -30 something degrees. After really looking into who Russia is as a person, I've noticed how he connects to me as a person. Constant loneliness, the rumors of how he is a "crazy psycho killer".... Russia is extremely misunderstood, and it makes me very upset that the Axis treats him the way they do. Russia isn't a psycho, nor is he a murderer. He's simply childishly cruel. He thinks everything is a game. He doesn't understand when he may be hurting someone. It's truly sad to think that no one understands him.... This song has really made me think. It's made me think about how in love I am with these characters and how greatly they've affected my interests. How their personalities and actions leave such a big mark on me. Then, I think about how they aren't real. How, I'll never get to meet them in person, and it breaks me to bits. I want so bad for those fanfictions to be real, to actually meet them in a different world, and join in the happy times and the sad times, the struggles that the creator puts in the anime and that is imagined by young authors, to be there for them. It's so hard to live with the thought of how my love for these characters is unrealistic and will never happen, and all of that love I give, going to waste. Even though I should be grateful for what I have and how good of a life I have compared to others, I can't help but to feel this way, whether I regret feeling this way or not. I hope I speak for everyone affected by this stupid anime. If not, well, won't I feel embarrassed. In the end, I will be forever grateful to Hidekaz Himaruya.
That's super depressing. I feel this way, too. I get too attached to fictional worlds and I want to be a part of them SO BADLY I just want to scream, yet, I think this means I am surrounded by people that can't make me happy enough? Or maybe it is my fault that I am alone because my personality scares them away?

I know I’m quite late to join this fandom (I only joined about 7 months ago). I recently ended the anime and now since I’m craving content I’m going trough the songs and I usually skipped this song since I didn’t want to sit here during 17 minutes. I never really tried to see Russia’s character in depth, I always thought that he was just as he was depicted on the surface. I knew that he was bullied, I felt bad, then I forgot about it. This is truly heartbreaking, it deserves the 17 minutes of your time. It makes you feel the complexity that is being a nation, the pain of being so isolated, unappreciated. Thank you to this song.

It's a heart-breaking piece of work, I wish he was real so that I could hold him close and tell him he'd never have to be lonely again. But I guess in a sense he is real. There are people just like Vanya here in our world and all of us should work hard to find them and make their lives a little bit easier by giving them a shoulder to cry on, and a friend. Hugs when they need it and smiles all the time. To me, Ivan is not just the personification of Russia. He is the personification of everyone who has ever had to feel alone or deal with loneliness. ;-;

An people wonder why Russia is one of my favorites and why I stand up for him when people call him evil. Hell I've even done that to my mom, I said "oh and also Russia I one of my favorites." And she says "but Russia is just evil.." I said "Mom never call Russia evil ever again never I never want to hear that again he just had a rough child hood and since he is bigger than the others he sometimes can be rough but he is a kind and adorable person!" I was so mad when she said that like words can't even describe. This is so sad.... I really feel bad for Russia. He's been through so much and his potrayal in the fandom is just a psycho killer, but he really isn't. He just wants to be happy but he's just hurt to the point where he hangs on to the slightest bit of hope and just wants friends to be there for him, but everyone is scared and it hurts him even more.
Through all the lines, you can almost feel the sadness in the words. And the happier lyrics? There's sadness there too. I read all the lyrics and almost felt like crying because he's so lonely.
Why does Mr. Russia have such sad songs?

Himaruya's given us some peeks into the depth and sad pasts of the characters behind the silliness of Hetalia, but never like this. You can sense his conflicted feelings of hopelessness yet his strong desire to still hope for something better despite his horrible past. This makes him so much more real; so much more human. i like how his song is kind of disembodied it changes randomly like mood swings but it still feels normal in a sense kinda like russia's personality he is a childish character who has a messed up past and is hard to understand and they way people in the anime sees him makes us think he is a bad person who is evil when in reality he just doesn't understand what is right or wrong or who to react properly to some things
