It's crazy how the series was still called Sharpe after Patrick Harper became the main protagonist when he died. It's a great ode to a great character.
In the book.. there was talk of this possibly happening at Sharpe’s ‘execution’ and Command didn’t take it lightly, the area was thick with Provosts, Sharpe was a popular officer
If the chosen men had mutinied, they'd have no choice but hang them too. So, they sent enough men they couldn't possibly try and wouldn't blame themselves for NOT trying due to being so massively outnumbered. If they'd sent a provost and a few soldiers to back him, conduct detrimental to good order would most certainly have occurred.
While Sharpe is a fictional character and this is a fictional execution, the british army did execute some of their officers while innocent in order to ''repair'' mistakes made during the war that saw the spanish blame England for the death of certain key people. Being an officer raised from the ranks made you a prime candidate for such executions because your death would cause no succession drama to handle.
I like how at 2:07 when he asks to die in his rifleman's coat, the officer sentencing him briefly considers it before giving him a sympathetic look while denying the request. I can't remember if he was specifically part of the conspiracy to swap Sharpe with a random soldier at the last minute, but I like to think his expression is saying "I really do wish you could but rules are rules"
British Mutinies are like that quite often, when the government cut back sailors wages the whole fleet mutinied. Officers were simply politely told that since there is mutiny going on, there will be no "following orders business" other than basic ship maintenance. Other that that the officers and men got along rather well (mostly on account of wast majority of the officers taking one look at government proposal and quietly agreeing with the men.)
Something I love about this scene, well there are two things: 1) chosen men immediately ready to kill anybody they have to to break Sharpe out 2) the sheer number of normal troops sent to stop them by Wellington lmao gotta outnumber them about 10-1 to actually stop them without them at least trying to fight their way through it

So that's why they didn't want to give him the right to wear the jacket in death, they planned to replace him the entire time Now that's Wellington-ing

Well come on guys, don't keep me out of the loop! It's a pain in my neck to try and understand these coded messages.

Do they make Sharp action figures?
No, safety regs are too tight these days
British Army Field Marshal Sir Arthur Wellesley His Grace The 1st Duke of Wellington.
I'm glad Harper continued his legacy. Should have renamed the show though. Kinda weird still running it as "Sharpe", when the protagonist is dead. lol
LKVideos is this an inside joke

Kinda funny when Sharpe is not dead, hence no renaming

1: nice responding speed.
2: your joke was really shitty, like its comparable to Sonic Boom in how bad it is.
@@Automaticstudioss 1. You replied 10 months late ... lol
2. perhaps, but you still didn't get it, which is even more pathetic.
Let me guess. He miraculously gets out of it somehow?
So then who DID they hang here?? 🤔
Can't remember for sure but I think it was just a regular soldier who commited a serious crime and was going to be executed anyway.
SAYS WHO!?..sir.
Atherton Wing! He gets about.
Wait they actually kill him
The common viewer no
OK No. 5 Sharpe's Honour?
Well, I guess I don't have to watch the show anymore
He honestly dies in every movie except in Silent Hill! Why are they doing this to us? Why does he have to die?:-(
He survived Ronin, though his pride did not.
Back when the Catholic Church had so much power they could sentence you to a Convent. Scary how that wasn't too long ago.
Was this a bit of humour, playing on the fact that Sean Bean always said he hated dying in movies?
No because these were made in the early 90s well before that.
Arya was somewhere around
wait, i thought he was in waterloo
This clip was naff what was the ruse!
Dammit Stokely!
Now if only you could watch the fucking thing in english as a german...
It’s not sharpe
“Sharpe's archenemy, French Major Ducos (Feodor Atkine), proposes a plan to his emperor to split the alliance between Spain and England (and gain revenge on Sharpe). He has a French spy, la Marquesa (Alice Krige), write a letter to her Spanish husband claiming that Sharpe tried to force his unwanted attentions on her. Sharpe is forced into a duel with the outraged nobleman, but the fight is broken up by Wellington's men. Later that night, while he is sleeping, the Spaniard has his throat cut by El Matarife (Matthew Scurfield), a partisan leader. Sharpe is framed for the murder and is sentenced to hang. To placate his Spanish allies, Wellington is forced to go along.”
Major Nairn (Michael Byrne), Wellington's spymaster, arranges for another condemned soldier to be executed (keeping spectators at a distance so the switch can remain undetected), while he sends Sharpe and Sergeant Harper (Daragh O'Malley) to find out what is going on. Meanwhile, Father Hacha (Nickolas Grace) and his brother El Matarife, Ducos' co-conspirators, abduct la Marquesa and imprison her in a nunnery to tie up loose ends. Sharpe learns of this and frees her, only to be chased by El Matarife and his men.
