Pauline wrote this song at the age of 13. It is about the struggles of addiction. Sang from the addicts point of view. She wrote it after reading a story written by a addict about the dark places it took him. At that young age Pau had the empathy to tap into and understand ,in a deep way, those dark feelings and the skill to turn it into a masterpiece.
That's actually sick that she wrote it without even experiencing it herself. I feel that's even harder to do than when it's a personal experience (obviously emotionally, its harder when its personal though).
There are those one of a kind bands, musicians, singers, that come around once in a lifetime... The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson,....and now ⚡️THE WARNING⚡️ We are so fortunate to be alive for them!
Paulina Villarreal, the beating heart of The Warning. She can always make me smile until my face hurts, or turn me into a crying mess. As someone pointed out, 8,000 fans in Mexico singing with her in English!
She also sang "Breathe" straight after. A song she vowed never to sing as it was too emotional and had special meaning for her. At the beginning she says (in Spanish) that although vowing to never sing it live, that because 8000 people had shown up to see them and they had all sang along to this song (Black Holes), she'd perform it. If you can watch that without shedding at least one little tear, then you're a harder person than I am Juliett (but I am a softy at heart!!!) Thanks for the reaction. All of the songs from this Pepsi Center performance are absolutely worth your time! All the best, Andy.
Their situation is unique. The fact they are siblings means they all had the same opportunities and support. You can tell they have provided each other continuous encouragement, competition, and love. Watch a few of the interviews they have done, both in person and streaming. You can see all of these in their interactions. They know they have something special, but they are very humble and are still in awe of their success. Every album, every show they do is better than the last.
From their debut album “XXI Century Blood”, written and composed between 2015-2016, released March 2017. Ale (bass) born Dec-13-2004, Pau (drums) born Feb-5-2002, Dany (guitar) born Jan-30-2000. So, they started writing their first album when they were 10, 13 and 15. Hardly 12, 15, 17 when it was released. During their TEDx presentation in 2017, they talked about their road to release their first album, highly recommended to take a look at it. I love your reactions, as others have said please follow up with Breathe and Enter Sandman at Pepsi Center. Breathe also at the same piano and Enter Sandman with the same string accompaniment as Black Holes. After that, Dust to Dust / Dull Knives at Pepsi center. I’m pretty sure you would love those live performances.
I strongly recommend that you also check out the version they did years ago at the Dakota Bar. That one features Pau on keyboards but also exquisite backing vocals by Dany and Ale. It’s equally gorgeous and powerful .
PAULINA PAULINA PAULINA... if you want to know how it feels to hear 8000 people chant your name, just ask Pau. She deserved each and every "PAULINA" she got that night. Yes, she has an amazing voice. Right after Black Holes she did Breathe, a song she said she would never do live, but she did at the Pepsi Center. Turn on the captions, she did a heartfelt and wholesome speech in spanish before she started singing. If you want more piano and voice magic by Pau, check out her cover of Radiohead's Creep. She sings lead on some of their songs, like 23, and one of my absolute favorites by them, Dust To Dust. The Pepsi Center version, which goes right into Dull Knives (Cut Better) is nothing short of legendary.
Bring a box of tissues when you do Breathe (Pau), or When I'm Alone (Dany) from this concert, and turn on Closed Captions. They both wreck emotionally. And yeah, I'm crying. ❤️⚡😭
Thank you Juliet, Please, Please React to "When I'm Alone"My wife's name was Julie, I lost her after 40 years of marriage. This song "When I'm Alone" means more to me than any other song ever, period. Dany wrote this song at age 15. She was lonely at Berkeley College of music. She was missing some of her family and friends when she wrote it. Dany and her Acoustic Guitar. And eight thousand people singing along. Incredibly touching song. Thanks again...
Oh my goodness this is so sweet of you, thank you! I’m so sorry for your loss, I genuinely teared up when you said her name was Julie 😣 I will make sure to listen to this song for you and for her ❤️
Breathe should be next. Then Dany with When I'm Alone. Both from the Pepsi Center. I was fixated with the Teatro Metropolitan concert (still am!) but when they started releasing songs from the Pepsi Center it just reassured me that that they are really WOW! A CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico or Mexico City) concert would be the ultimate Warning concert, just can't go wrong with that one!
Here's what Pau said about this song at a storytelling concert in 2018 (translated from spanish) "This next song... many times people ask me what it’s about, and honestly, I don’t really like explaining it because everyone has their own interpretation. Sometimes people tell me it’s a love song or something like that, which I find super interesting. I love hearing how people interpret the song because it’s great that everyone sees it in their own way, depending on what they need at the time. But, well... this song is actually about someone who’s struggling with addiction and all the things they’re dealing with. This is Black Holes."
"depending on what they need at the time". She is deep. I'm boggled to think that, when she walks down the street, nobody knows what a gift she carries. By the way, thontor, your videos are great.
@ my videos? I don’t really have any videos unless you are counting the one video on my channel of their Latin Grammy performance, which took hardly any effort by me so I wouldn’t call that my video.
Please react to Breathe from the same concert. However, be sure to have the English translation captions turned on for the introduction. Also, do not stop the song because it is short, and you'll interrupt the emotional build. I so look forward to your reaction. By the way, check vthe songs "23" and "Dust to Dust." Pau sings kead on bith of them. Thanks! Charlie
Paulina steps out in front again in this concert with Breathe, the only time she has ever performed it live as she agreed to have it on the Error album on the condition she would never perform it live. In the concert from 2022 at Teatro Metropolitan she is out front twice once for Narcissta and for Revenant, which is my all time favorie voice performance by Pau. Breath is more emotional but Revenant is stunning.
@@JuliettJess yes, the warning is born in 2013. Dany is born on january 200, Pau on february 2002 And Ale on december 2004 they are very young and incredible you should react to the tedx 2016 and 2017 you would learn a lot about The Warning. Have a nice day and take care of yourself
Thank you for your totally transparent sharing, I am old enough to know they are there right at the top. It is extremely rare to see something like this performance. Even more rare from a 22 year old that is singing an "old" song written by herself around 9 years before. I believe you have to go back at least one if not more centuries to see something similar.
There are actually several songs that Pau sings lead on, not just backing vocals. She has a nice range of styles (as a matter of fact, just saw a video today of her singing with Dead Poets Society at a festival). But Pau's strength is ballads. She can rip your heart out with her vocals.

Revenant is absolutely lovely. The version from Theatro Metropolitan with "Primo" is what I'd suggest after this combo: Pepsi Center: Black Holes+Breathe, then Theatro: Revenant, then recover with Theatro:23 and Narcisista. That is a short evening that has it all.

Great job with your reaction and thoughts on Black Holes from The Warning . This is my all-time favorite song from them Love Paulina Voice and Vocals this is why she my favorite better of the band no disrespect to Daneliya or Alejandra there incredible. But Paulina songwriting and voice & the way she the instruments the way she looks is everything to me .
Her voice is actually a little better than that. She had a mild head cold that night which affected her voice a bit. Also, Mexico City is located 2200 meters above sea level and the thin air always has a bit of a negative impact on their voices when they perform there. But both this song and Breathe were beautifully well done.
I am a 68 year old male and Pau's singing brings me to tears. So beautiful and full of honest emotion.
When Pau sings a ballad on a piano, she tears out your heart and you thank her for it. Love this band ❤

That’s why Pau is such a great songwriter. She can write from other people’s perspectives, and do it very well.
