I have this palette and I absolutely love it. I don’t have any issues when I treat it as if they were pigments. I lay the color down, Pat, tap, blend and sometimes blending with a different color than I first applied. Melt is one of my favorite brands and I would own more if I had the money.
I've seen people sat to treat this like pigments and tap, pat, blend, go dark to light, etc. I'm sorry but a good quality pigment will perform like any good eyeshadow. For the price of melt you shouldn't have to jump through hoops or use them a certain way to get them to work. And I love to take time and play with makeup but I don't want to have to pack on pigment over and over to get it to work. That's my opinion at least.
For this palette another factor that I had an issue with was longevity. Because the shadows are so powdery I found that after a few hours the shadows faded a bit, even with my Fenty primer which is on the stickier side. I love the look you made though 😍 I might get this palette out again

Am I the only one that noticed when our girl went in with that pigment packing it in, that brush was going in like a tattoo gun making that first outline? She was invested! I loved this!
I like the palette but agree completely with you and everyone else. It takes some extra effort and a slightly different approach to get it to look the way I want but I don’t necessarily think it’s “bad”. It’s also true that that one shade changes color a little bit when applied. My strategy with this palette is to use a smooth silicone type textured base not a sticky primer. The sticky primers are too hard to blend on top of with this formula for me. Also just like you said. Pat it in don’t swipe. If you try to swipe it on it disappears or gets patchy. I really enjoy the color story and I have had great success with that topper sparkly shade by using my finger to pick it up then spritzing with a bit of mixing medium and gently pressing it on. Everything people are saying is true. It’s different/difficult to work with but I guess if you love the colors and playing around with makeup enough and you are willing to spend the extra effort it is totally worth it. I guess it kind of depends on your end goal whether you’re going to like it or not. If you are like me and just like to have a quiet fun hobby and “play with your toys” while the rest of the house is asleep you’ll like it. If you want fast effortless and easy to work with you will probably be left frustrated and annoyed by it and hate it.
I actually got this palette for free! I ordered the 27 palette on a major sale, they sent me this one instead. They told me to keep it along with sending me the 27 (2 melt palettes for less than 40$ helll yeahhhh). But I agree with you! Takes some babysitting with this palette but I enjoy the colors of it too much
First comment! But I have the palette and I love it. These shade are the kind you have to tap/bounce to blend vs windshield wiping motion. Otherwise they’ll end up everywhere but your eyelids. So I agree with you, it requires patience pants for you to enjoy.
I got this recently and love the color story. The reviews arent wrong. Even the browns randomly got patchy after being applied. I worked with it but wish it was better quality. It's not beginner friendly, you really have to know your techniques.

Oh hello! I just came back to this video because I purchased this recently during the Sephora biggie save sale, and cannot wait to try it! I also love the colors, but it is a bit similar to the Melt earth palette, but I don’t care! I’ve also noticed that in my recent learning how to do eye shadow without looking like a 5-year-old who got into Tammy Faye Baker’s makeup that I wind up loving palettes that others don’t. Well. I’m back here again because I just received the four twenty palette in a Melt mystery box 😅 I was one of those people that returned it. I’m hoping I’ll have better luck with this palette this time because I do love the color story!
I just bought this and honestly, I wish they’d had more shimmers or a duochrome or something special. The colors are really pretty but for the price, I wanted more.
This is one of the reasons that I adore you is your blunt honesty!!! I did pass on this pallete since the colors would make me look sick. However, it has always been a kind of want at the same time. I’m so glad I passed since I dislike shadows that don’t play nicely. Your eyes just popped with these colors and it looks so good on you. Mazel to you for having patience pants, I need some especially when driving these days lol. I know you will use this with another melt pallete, and make another cool look. Kiss spooky for me. I think this all comes down to batch issues. You could get a good batch or a bad batch. You got a good look and made a difficult pallete work, and it makes you happy so that's a win.
I think I love this color story in the way that I loved Makeup Menagerie Killer Purr and ace Beauté Tropical Vibes. I think that with this palette it feels either like you love a pigment shadow and you need to love tapping instead of blending (and you don’t mind dusting away the fallout) or you really really don’t. I just bought the reformulated Oceanic from Ace, if I love that, maybe I’ll do the Tropical Vibes. I love a complicated look, but I don’t need a high maintenance palette in my already overlarge collection.
She glam just came out with a zodiac collection, I myself have been on a quest for puke green. For six bucks a pallet I figured I'd roll the dice and give it a shot. They also had a more sage green color story.
The lipstick shade paired so well with the eye look. I personally don’t have patience with eyeshadow but I think you will get a lot of use of this palette because you will get used to working with the shades in the way they need to.
I looooove melt I have about all the melt palettes but I’ve held back because the prices keep going up 😩 but their customer service is amazing and there packaging gorgeous ✨

Also, where do you get your patience pants because I lost mine. 😂😂 The color story is so cool and I want to love it but then when I use those colors it just doesn't look good on me. So hard pass. This palette definitely needs love when applying. You can’t blend it out too far or it looks muddy. I don’t use eye primer. I set my eyes with concealer and powder to avoid my shadows (in general) from having that darker color in spots. The shimmer is bad but I live for the Melt mattes. It’s not a beginner palette. The palette works great with Rust and Smoke Sessions. Conversely, I picked up the ND Biba in the Black Friday sale and I think it is pretty unspecial. I don’t get that hype. The shadows and color story are just okay.
I actually like the 4/20 ... I don't LOVE it but it's definitely workable 🤓 in my opinion it's easier to work with when you start with the darkest color first. the only shade I dislike is the shimmer, it got hardpan instantly...

The formula is the most difficult of their palettes but I don’t have issues that are deal breaking. Just overall trippy palette but fun haaa that one yellow is translucent which through me off but the overall effect is wonderful.

I own this palette. It's my favourite melt palette. I have no difficulties with it. Creates Amazing looks. I like it way more then Gemini. This palette makes Gemini a bore.
I have this palette (bought it at launch for full price) and want to love it but I can't get it to work for me to save my life. I have almost all of the Melt palettes and this is definitely my problem child. I find it hard to blend shadows on top of one another so I have to work from darkest to lightest and that just isn't my technique preferences. And that Shatter shade is indescribably lackluster. Iam waiting for the Ace Beaute Tropical Vibes palette to restock and I'll use that instead.
Spot on Linda. Spot on. I just went and snagged my 420 to re-swatch, also bought on extreme sale with extreme hesitation and a wee bit of delight. I did not struggle bus with the swatches, different pressings, different palette? Wish I could send a pic. Anywayzzzzz. Who knows, but "Shatter" should probably be called "Scatter to the winds" to call it a topper shade is being generous indeed, so there is one struggle bus for ya. As for the rest, agree it is a take your time palette, I think many of MELTS palettes are that, also agree on the Subculture analogy. Another stunning, but take your time, know thy pigment, these aren't your grandma's Estee Lauder shadows. I have zero regrets on all my MELT palettes and stacks. My only regret is the one, the duo that got away, but let's not revisit sadness. Side note: Almost all of my ABH shadows in palettes do a weird oxidation/color shift thing on my lids and I have A LOT of their palettes. They are delicate flowers that I have to be careful to not use too many shades and no fancy blending, just gentle pat pats with a dab of blend, and conservative windshield wiper motions or mud commences. Edit 2nd side note: Ace Beaute, lovely as it is, does not have the dusky, dirty, drug through the mud rose. I need the "Hash" for balance! Thank you for the lovely post work decompress Linda!!! I now have tomorrow mornings palette picked out. :)

I love all the other palettes I own from Melt…but this one makes me nervous! I don’t think I’ll spend the funds on this one when there’s other beautiful grungy palettes out there that work like a dream…
I absolutely love this color story. But I’m so scared the formula will not work for me. I have put it in my cart over and over again just to take it out last minute. I’m even here because I just put it in my cart again and wanted to see more reviews. That’s how cyclical it’s been not knowing if I should or shouldn’t.
So I will say that if you're looking for a palette that will give you a super fast look, this might not be the one for you. If you take your time with it, it ABSOLUTELY works for me, and I love, love, love the color story.
I keep playing with the palette at my store. I love the color story but the consistency of the shadows holds me back. I have changed my mind about the holiday collection. We also got that in and it’s beautiful. The shadows feel like a consistency I like. So maybe I’ll pick it up😏. Enjoy your palettes.

Yes, exactly! Patting it rather than swiping is key.

I wanna get this palette too …. But also I think I prefer the colour story of the Ace beauté one… so i’m gonna wait for a restock. I prefer ace beauté formula over melt . Also the ace beauté isn’t weed theme 🤣but for a strange reason I kinda want both 😅

I love all the other palettes I own from Melt…but this one makes me nervous! I don’t think I’ll spend the funds on this one when there’s other beautiful grungy palettes out there that work like a dream…
I totally understand! I think there are other grungy palettes that work more easily.
I'm sorry if this was a cheap palette and I had to baby talk it to get it to work fine but for the price I want it to do more of the work

I absolutely love this color story. But I’m so scared the formula will not work for me. I have put it in my cart over and over again just to take it out last minute. I’m even here because I just put it in my cart again and wanted to see more reviews. That’s how cyclical it’s been not knowing if I should or shouldn’t.
So I will say that if you're looking for a palette that will give you a super fast look, this might not be the one for you. If you take your time with it, it ABSOLUTELY works for me, and I love, love, love the color story.
I keep playing with the palette at my store. I love the color story but the consistency of the shadows holds me back. I have changed my mind about the holiday collection. We also got that in and it’s beautiful. The shadows feel like a consistency I like. So maybe I’ll pick it up😏. Enjoy your palettes.
