People are asked to count and document all insects in one square meter of gras for an hour. I believe its very helpful to accurately estimate insect populations.
I remember on second or third semester of biology college, we went to the "Manuel barros" lake preserve, and we did a project of taking photos and cataloging them on Inaturalist, for example, there wasn't any physical evindece, only mouth to mouth info about having capybaras there, but for example we found capybaras poop, i catalogued it on my account, a solid evidence of them living there
Using pokemon plot to introduce citizen science to the public may be the best way to do it.
