Special thanks to Marcus for sharing his favorite school supplies for high schoolers! Are you adding any of these to your back to school shopping list?
I recently just added the uniball one pens to my collection (though not mention in the video but from another) and i just love the way the grip feels. I have so many pens that i bought for the aesthetic but dont have a comfortable grip so i dont use them often. But these uniball pens have both the aesthetic and the grip. ❤️❤️❤️
Marcus and JetPens, a million thanks for this. I'm encouraging my high schooler to buy his school supplies from JetPens because of the high quality, superb design, and lightness of Japanese stationery. His first year in high school was a disaster when it came to trying to squish in all the things his teachers said he needed that he didn't even use, like the 3" binder! Not to mention the fact that that it was a nightmare to get that and his notebooks and his laptop in his backpack!
If I had to do things over(and it's been long enough that I could be the parent of a high schooler, though I'm not) I'd adapt what I've learned about office supplies and opt to have a stock of manila file folders, a dozen or so binder clips, and paper pads - all the stuff I actually use for my artwork now. Stick all of that in a basic accordion folder(no separate pouches required), and then keep a pencil case with it. I remember all these times where classes would be rushing things for time and you'd have to pull out something last-minute or be given a handout right as you get up to leave...and rushing meant that pencils got dropped, the ring binder mechanisms failed, papers got torn. I like the stuff JetPens has. But if you really generalize to allow for rapid organization, binder clips are stars since they let you adapt to the random bureaucratic odds and ends that come up, and reorganize stuff quickly into tabs. Sometimes I'd be caught out when the teacher was like "and now I'd like everyone to hand in their notes" and I'm like "I have my notes all over this binder organized by day across subjects" (they were never very good about clarifying when this was going to happen, not in high school anyway). And file folders add enough of a cover and a labelling system so you can make sense of it and subdivide the space a little more - the manila card stock is sturdy and they can be decorated nicely with stickers or custom art, and if they get trashed it's no big deal too. For the actual pens the focus would be on consistent marks for timed test-taking with no smudge, which favors felt tips over gel or ballpoint. They can dry out fast if stored improperly so you have to have some backups, but they never skip, and the good inks won't smudge or succumb to water damage. Likewise I'd want to have several mechanical pencils ready to go because feeding a new lead is not the thing one wants to be doing in a hurry. So many spoiled leads because of rushing. But I wouldn't trust my high school self to use a very high end one either, not while in class and using it as a fidget toy.
My backpack was always so heavy because of all the things the teachers forced us to have in high school. People would make fun of me for having a huge bag, which I now know was completely unnecessary because most of he stuff wasn't even used. I know anime isn't 100% accurate to real life, but when I look at all those school anime and see them carrying around a normal sized bag and thin notebooks and textbooks, I feel jealous. They're doing something right.
I'm a third year university student, and I've got to say, I use very similar supplies. The one thins is that I have a handful of Energels in different bodies and tip sizes as well as a well-loved collection fountain pens (a couple of Lamys, my beloved Perkeo, a Preppy in the pink sakura body, an old Helix and a Parker) as I have to write so much, they're the most comfortable for long periods of time.
I'm a student and researcher. Fountain pens really are so comfortable, but lately my handwriting has been slipping, but I've found that fountain pen friendly paper takes pencil very very well. For some reason, my handwriting slows down in pencil, so is more legible.
Hi I would like to know what pens you recommend for writing many notes lol. I need help bc I don’t know many aside from BIC- ☠️ in my class we write a lot
@@emerxld_tea5184 I'm guessing UK/ Europe, based on the abundance of BIC pens? I quite like the Pilot v5/ v7 needlepoint rollerballs, or the uni eye ones if you like a conical tips, and you can get them in most Sainsburies/ other non-stationery shops, as they're good and reliable. Or Pentel Energels, they're a little bit more difficult to find in shops- I got mine either online or you can find them in odd stationery shops (I found a limited edition body in the Range somehow). At least with Energels, you can find refills for them online very easily, and they're in a lot of sizes and colours. Plus, the actual pen bodies themselves are more comfortable to hold without your hand hurting, as they're a bit more chunky. Altogether, I find gel and rollerball pens are more comfortable for writing a lot of notes, but ballpoints are sometimes necessary, like when you want to highlight straight away or when teachers get a bit weird about what pens you can use. Zebra do some decent ballpoints- the Z grip ones are really good considering that they're dirt cheap (you can get a pack of about ten for two pounds), plus you can get all sorts of bodies for them, like the animal print or the pastel rainbow ones that are in most Poundlands. If you're willing to invest in a good pen, the uni alpha gels are unbeatable. The grips are good and squidgy, plus Jetstream ink has such low viscosity that feels like a gel pen. With a handful of refills, they last for years. Generally, I've found that low viscosity ink (when it writes smoothly and with less effort compared to a BIC) and a chunkier/ more comfortable barrel makes my hand hurt the least. There again, with the sie of the pen, it can rely on you- how you hold it, where the centre of gravity is, the sie of your hand etc. The best thing would probably be to try out a few to see what suits you best, maybe mix and match refills and pen bodies, to see what works for you best :)
@@cazzabojangles nope I’m from US but the only pens I know are BIC and Paper mate but let me say it doesn’t go smooth on paper. The ink is not great quality so I’m trying to upgrade for smth great
@@cazzabojangles ooo I saw Pentel Energels just today at a local stationary store but I didn’t get it bc there were many types of pens. I’ll definitely go back and get it :D
Marcus seems like fun to work with. Good for him that he could be featured on a video! That's really cool. My favorite pen is the Sarasa Mark on. IT NEVER SMUDGES. Not even with highlighters! 😲 That's why I like the Mark on so much. I like the grid design too, it's cute. ❤️😃
All I got in school were regular old wood cased pencils, or the standard Bic Mechanical Pencils. For pens, it was either Paper Mate Write Bros. pens, Bic Round Stic pens, or Bic Cristal Stic pens. Wasn't until after school I realized there were so many writing instrument options out there.
I got a wallet pack of Bic round stic in grade 7. When they eventually ran out, Bic stopped making them in my country. I wrote them an email, and they said they'd restart them if more people ask. I'm BEGGING. It's the only ballpoint that doesn't make me strain
Who is Marcus? An intern? New employee? Ooh! His taste in stationery is right up my alley. So good! I own many of these so I’m looking forward to seeing more recommendations from him. 💕✨
I'm getting the feeling more and more that JetPens is a family company. I have a huge feeling that everyone we see is related to each other in some way 😅. Which is fine, I would absolutely love to work at my family's stationery company, if we had one (just don't put me on customer service duty 😂).
It’s been a long while since i was a high school student. But many of these items are office appropriate too. My favourites are the vintage Sarasa Clip and Kokuyo paper and binder. Not going to lie, my colleagues always compliment my lovely stationery which is nice to hear. Great video! Well done Marcus!
Hi jetpens! Maybe you could do a line of videos like this, of diff professionals, or even study-tubers or other creatives who buy and use your products. I'm a psychology PhD, and it would be great to see what other people use in their different work.
What a great addition to the JetPens video crew. I've spent the last few days trying to think of what nice school supplies to get my daughters&nephews this year. So hard to choose.....
None of these awesome school supplies were readily available when I was in high school lol. The only way I found some of them was through Kinokuniya Bookstore in Little Tokyo. I mean the closest thing I had to Pilot Frixion was the Pentel EraserMate and that pen wrecked notebook paper. I would have loved those Sarasa vintage ink pens because I'm not a big fan of plain blue or black inks. Along with fountain pens, I use Campus notebooks now for writing. I've also turned my friends into huge stationery snobs thanks to me and JetPens 😉. Oh and welcome Marcus!
Great job, Marcus! A+ I love that you wrote a college app essay about your favorite stationery and wish you success. Also, I see I must buy an Opt mechanical pencil friend for my Opt ballpoints. That clip design is the best too. Thank you!
He graduated from my high school during my freshman year - really smart, passionate, and friendly person. Now, he's now attending University of Chicago :)
I really did enjoy this video but I think I would prefer if Marcus (the boy in the video) talked more about his personal life and how pens have affected his life. in the video. I can tell Marcus has a great work ethic and really cares for his friends and family. Great work Marcus! Good luck in your future endeavors! 😆
Good job on presenting the school supplies you like Marcus! My parents just bought whatever’s on sale for my school supplies 😂 the multi pens would have been quite useful for me though
HI I would like to see Marcus more often in videos. I support Jetpens I just made a purchase for my lovely niece and little gifts for her friends and I'm glad that I choose 3 of your favorite products for my niece. I'm going to ship her school supplies overseas. Thanks.❤
Now I am eager to have a sneak peek of what Kuya Marcus had written in one of his notebooks, to be enlightened because being a 1st year shs student isn’t also that easy🥳❤️
i hope they make the sarasa vintage line in multipen refills, i adore the colors, but i cant keep track of more than just one pen to save my life 😭 adhd problems...
Sarasa Clip's are my fav's, but I'd have to go with the Sarasa Grands on the vintage level. Their barrels appeal to me more, though those Uni-ball One F's he mentioned do look nice and congrats to that young man if he's working at JetPen's as a high schooler. Lol, that would be like having my (stationery addiction) cake and eating it too.
My favorite has always been the Pentel Energel but this year I wanna try the zebra mark on. I finally got the sunstar mitte pencil case in the stand up version!! I csnt wait to use it for this school year
Hi Jet pens! Love your work. You should look at having the "Skilcraft B3 Aviator Multifunction Pen". It is a great pen that I have been using for years! It is really up your alley in terms of simplicity but very versatile pen.
Let me ask this, did your teachers agree with the B5 size of your papers? Back in the 80s, I would have gotten reprimanded for not having an 8.5 x 11 inch size, collage rolled paper.
As a MSc Student. A 0.5 mechanical pencil, and a click eraser. Though your point about the foam eraser and others breaking may make me consider changing. However my autism fidget toy may just win out, no matter how much it annoys professors. I had one that when I entered class I had to turn over my pen and pencil supply, and he would hand me a wooden pencil (not happy autistic when the thing went dull after about 10 words), and Bic ball point pens in 2 colors for color coding. He did relent and found the least clickable mechanical pencil later.

I want to, but currency has devalued + I'm broke + my parents might be mad at me for buying unnecessary stationery. 🥲
I’d like to more videos of Japanese Students and what their choices of stationery items are.😊
