  • We decide at the last minute to turn right instead of left (for home) from Manning Park and end up in Osoyoos in our Roadtrek Zion campervan. We find a great camping spot for the night at the Haynes Point (Swiws) Provincial Park in the overflow area, enjoy a dip in the lake and Gordon sees some amazing wildlife.

    Sometimes those impulse decisions turn out the best. Funny coincidence about the VW Rialto. Music was perfect!

    What a beautiful place to park up and enjoy the scenery and nature.I am not sure how your are coping with the severe heat, it must be horrendous. Great to see another video of what’s on offer in your local area.😁👍😎🍺🍷

      It was a wonderful spot to visit! Our ‘heat dome’ fell away about 5 days ago, and temperatures here on the west coast are largely as we would expect in summer. As for us, we were not camping during the worst of the heat, daytime temperatures were often approaching or slightly above 40 (higher if you considered the humidity) and did not cool much at night. Very difficult for many, and AC is not common here (typically not needed). In one of our favorite areas of the province the heat was excessive with a new record of 49.6 C (ambient) and our hearts go out to the people of the Village of Lytton, much of which was destroyed by fire (rough estimates are at 90%, but that is still to be determined) and lives were lost. Forest fires remain an issue, and we are hoping we may see some cooler/wet weather soon to allow those areas with fires some relief and that we don’t have a repeat of the forest fire season of a few years ago.

    I hope you’re persevering through this heat wave. Stay cool.

      It was wonderful to be off camping in great weather! The ‘heat wave’ has broken for us, close to pleasant temperatures once again...though others perhaps not so lucky yet. Appreciate the comment! 🚐

    What a lovely place to camp at Haynes Point. How many camping spots are there in the overflow area? Looks like a great place for a swim in the summer heat. Thanks for another beautiful video.

      Its funny in that there are no ‘defined spots’, so you could have more small campers or less if all trucks and trailers. Regardless, it is quite a long section and the two times we have been there was quite a bit of room between each. Of course, there are no picnic tables or fire pits and you are technically limited to one night. Glad you enjoyed!

    We got into Haynes Point once and the wind flattened our tent on a beautiful June day like the one you had, also did not like the little flies. Nancy

      @hikenrv  3 года назад

      As we recall, there are warning signs posted on the causeway about strong winds! Those flies were annoying, but for us they seemed only an issue on the leeward side of the van (hiding from the breeze or wind). We wondered if they were simply along there or also at some of the campsites; it sounds like the latter. Still, we really enjoyed staying there. Thanks for sharing your trip!

    how do you find the van A/C in the heat? Our zion turns on the engine after 10minutes of A/C and does not cool the van that great, l guess the insulation is not good.

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  3 года назад +2

      We generally do not need AC most places where we camp. Literally have used it perhaps 3x in over 3 years, simply to cool the van down a bit if it did get too hot, so perhaps for 15 minutes for so. It is loud! Usually staying in shade and using the fan works well enough, albeit the best you will get then is the ambient air temperature. Usually that is OK. Agree, the van is definitely 3 season and not that well insulated .

    Where is the best spot for family fishing in Osoyoos?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 месяца назад

      Ok, you have us in this one…we don’t fish. A quick internet search of ‘ Where’s the best place to fish?
      Came be back with ‘Near the mouth of Solana Bay on the south side of Motel Row; and at the bridge on Highway 3. Spring and fall are the best times to catch rainbow trout and salmon. Bass fishing peaks in the summer”. Certain folks there can provide you with a better answer!
