- On The Simpsons Theory, we look at the entire life and timeline of Fat Tony, Springfield's gangster. Voiced by Joe Mantegna, from The Godfather, we look at this Simpsons character history. Taking a look at the full Simpsons episodes, I've put Fat Tony's Simpson's life in chronological order. From season 1 to The Simpsons season 34 with a little help from Legs, Louis and Johnny Tightlips.

Fat Tony is honestly one of the best characters The Simpsons team ever made. Even when killing him off, they knew never to truly keep him off the show

I Love Joe Mantegna as a Character Actor he has never given a bad performance once, He really brings the character life and makes him more then just a cliche Mob Boss.

Funny you mention Selma's Marriage to Troy, Because in a Fish called Selma It is the only time Joe Mantegna Did not voice the character. Afterwards, he approached them and said, "Look even if you just want him to cough, call me I'll do it."
You mention his Name as Marion D'Amico, But his name was originaly William Williams in his first appeance in season 3

"You mean the mob only did a favour so I'd do one in return? For shame Fat Tony" Fat Tony is class. As for fave characters, it's hard as you've got 30 years' worth to choose from. That being said my picks would include Troy McClure, Hank Scorpio, Sideshow Bob, Edna Krapabbel and the "YESSSS" man.
Great work as always Lydia. Fat Tony was alright guy in my book. He taught Bart how to bartend and even a lesson that crime isn't Great. Plus not many can say they can go toe to toe with the yakuza.

Favorite character - probably Moe. Even as a young kid I instantly connected with him, as I myself am generally annoyed and unlucky, but do tend to hide a kinder side. Plus I always had a thing for loser characters like Meg Griffin, Bud Bundy or Neville Longbottom. They almost never get things handed to them, and the rare occasions in which they come out on top are incredibly satisfying because it is always through hard work and self development.
Totally agree about the "fit Tony" thing. In my head, it just didn't happen, was not canon.

I realized recently that she originally had a New England accent, then lost it. She's a weirdly undeveloped character, especially considering how much airtime Skinner and Krabapel and even Willie got.
Fat Tony is in my top 3 with his own comedic moments and how surprising he’s quite benevolent of a Mob Boss despite the amount of times he’s had Frankie the Squealer sleep with the fishes and threatened many members of the Springfield Community
I’m a mafia movie buff and am absolutely obsessed with the Life. I have written about it on a number of occasions and am a subscriber to Michael Francese. This man is a jewel, you would love him. He was a Mob Boss but got out and lived to tell the tale.

Thanks Lydia I’m surprised that Fat Tony was not cancelled like Apu. My favorite character is Ralph, we all have a little bit of him in all of us.
I think it’s because it’s not as racially loaded as the Apu thing. While Italian Americans are still very much their own culture, they’re no longer viewed as a separate ethnicity to target with harassment. Same happened with Irish Americans.
Now, the third time watching one of your videos, I had to leave a subscription for such a cool channel with passion, and I rarely ever subscribe to any channel. I especially adore how you do not just tear apart newer episodes like any other Simpsons video but seem to make a balanced analysis of how the stories develop, get worse and then again better sometimes.

I think it's Obviously why fit tony replaced fat tony is a lemon idea because life gives you lemons make orange soda. Because joe mantega likes the character and was mad they killed fat off. It's like Peter Cullen getting back up optimus prime and killing him 2 times (g1 movie and dark awakening) would you see characters killed and replaced to come back?

A couple months ago I rewattched the Simpsons. Took me a couple weeks. But I was surprised to hear that they thought of calling Michael Fat Tonys nephew after the change in an episode.

Regarding Fit Fat Tony/Fat Tony. I really don't get why they did this. They're literally identical it just makes it look like they killed off the original Fat Tony to fill up runtime. Pity that they did this because if they used the runtime for something else it would've been perhaps my favourite Modern Simpsons episode
I think the Fit-Fat Tony thing was meant to be a joke about the unmoveable status quo of sitcoms, but that might just be me.
In my mind fit fat tony achieved what Michael wanted and gained a life outside of the life but after fat Tony's death he was dragged in explaining his softness being that he wasnt a mob boss he was a regular joe trying to swim with sharks
Her voice is very relaxing and fun to listen to. I learned a lot about fat tony.
My fav ones are Fat Tony, Legs, Louie. (For Side Characters) Lenny, Carl, Moe, Ralph, and Ned Flanders (Secondary) and All the Main Characters.

Here’s a challenge for you: do a Waylon Smithers Jr Timeline! I think it would be very interesting because not alot of attention is brought to him. When people get asked about him their first thought are “oh yeah that kiss-ass gay guy” at least, thats been my experience.
Lydia said in another comment/answer here „He’s coming up!“, so I think that will happen soon. He has always been and is one of my two favourite characters (together with Mr. Burns), so I‘m really looking forward to that, too =)
Do you know the RUclipsr TheRealJims? He‘s doing - among other things - character History videos; they‘re similar to Lydia‘s Timelines, but while she presents them chronologically from a character’s childhood to present day to their potential future, TheRealJims looks at a character from their first appearance all the way through the many seasons to the present day to see how they have evolved and been used on the show.
He‘s got a video about Smithers, too, (with over half a million views, btw, so it got quite some attention :-) I can really recommend it, just keep in mind (if you’re also watching recent seasons) that I think the video is from two years ago, so stuff from e.g. S33’s “Portrait of a Lackey on Fire” isn’t featured, but pretty much anything else important.

I thought we finally got some Wendell appreciation but Fat Tony is truly my favorite as well. I thought it was strange how he married Selma but with this video, I discovered it was his cousin Fit Tony (well, Fat Fit Tony) 😂

I love fat tony. I think he was my early introduction to the Mafia. That lead to other mafia stories. Even to one of my favorite OC villain. But the current Fat Tony feels a shadow if himself I guess I am actually glad it is his cousin because it would be odd when Fat Tony start to work for the police and goes easier on others.

I don't know what it is about Fat Tony's design, but every facial expression he has makes me laugh.
Also, you gotta respect a mob leader who has no issue doing grunt work alongside his henchmen. No matter what bodies need to be disposed of, or what crime needs to be commited, Fat Tony is down in the trenches with his men. No wonder his guys are usually so loyal. Most business managers and ceos could learn a thing or two from my favorite mobster.

Another example i can think of is when g1 starscream died played by Mr burns himself, late chris Latta he voiced starscream again as a ghost as g1 cannon twice but when beast wars came in doug Parker brought starscream back as his ghost again sadly Latta died when beast wars aired around 94 but starscream was back in the future. He didn't go back to his body because he couldn't find it it. Prehistoric earth is different from 1984 timeline and since he was sent to past via by time rip he went to the past when he went. If he did go to his body he'll kill himself in the past and wiping his future. But not getting ahead but let's off topic if an actor plays a beloved character to the actor and fans, they'll naturally get mad and to sugar the lemon the bring back the character in a canonical way to be back instead remove the actor and replace the character to voice like maude she asked for more cash, heard no so killed her, brought back as noncanons/flashbacks and that's how characters are brought back and continuing the timeline I'm sure comic book guy can partly, brutally honest disagree

Even though Fat Tony is not my favorite Simpsons character (that honor has to go to Sideshow Bob) I do really like him and I love Joe Mantegna as an actor and the whole killing him off just to replace him with an identical look-alike cousin thing really fucking pissed me off too.
