Today is an exciting day, my new A.R.E truck utility topper has arrived and will be installed. This will be the first of many videos covering the tool and materials layout of my Chevy 2500hd HVAC service truck. My goal is to utilize Milwaukee packout boxes to organize everything, along with some custom boxes/organizers I’ll make. Hope you enjoy the video!

Whenever I had a truck set up like that I had a bed slide, it prevents climbing in and out of it works pretty well. Might give it a look.
I currently run a Ford Transit 250 for my day job, and a F250 service body for others.
    Keep up the good work.

Oh the joy of always going back and forth between installing and servicing with the same truck. After 35 years of frying my brain, I have my van stocked for installing and my pick up with a decked drawer system set up for service. Yup, double the tools but in my mind, I think I’m happy. Good luck in your ventures and keep up with the great videos!!

Looking great dude. 2 possible suggestions.. for the sides add the packout mounting block to the back wall so you can clip in parts cases.. and for the back of the truck consider a bed slider. We had one for years saves on the knees and back. We had our set up with bins on each side just pull it out when you get to the job and go

Love the set up with the drawers, I've worked out of all types of service trucks (vans, utility body's, pick up, and for a week while my truck was broken a corvette) and no matter what you end up with you end up having to make you storage systems. Nothing ever fits quite right and usually leaves a bunch of dead space. Excited to see what the final set up looks like.

After being in a van for many years I now like the Truck with a work shell. And I also have a roll out bed shelve. mount everything to that and just click and pull out the whole bed to access everything easy.

Parts on the passenger side, tools on the driver’s side. I took all the bins out of 3 of my pack out’s to put capacitors, contactors, relays in it really just keeps them together. Duals in 1, fan caps in 1, relay and contactors in the last one.

Thanks for the great videos! I started watching your channel this past winter. You inspired me to make the leap I have always wanted to do. After 23 years in the field and the Last 6 years at Carrier Commercial Service, I left the Corporate world and started my own company. One man operation working out of my pick up truck! It’s going great, and I always look forward to seeing your new videos.

👍 I have a similar ARE topper (slightly taller), with a bed slide added. Same back doors with windows. Lights throughout. Hate climbing in & out, so that bed slide is paying off. My truck is oriented around overlanding or towing, with my off-road gear (straps, ropes, traction pads, pumps, etc), repair tools, and towing stuff (receivers, leveling pads, etc) inside.
In the side compartments, I keep some common off-road stuff and similar on the drivers side (stuff not likely needed beside a busy highway), while the passenger side has my favorite tools and similar (stuff perhaps needed beside a busy highway).

Get a decked drawer system in the bed or a pack rat. Throw a bed slider on top. Decrease the time of crawling in that thing. Some sort of drawer slides for the parts side bin gives alot of capacity.

  • @ericronquillo1526
    @ericronquillo1526 3 года назад

Keep parts only in the side bins, tools in the bed and work something out for the backseat. Reason is it’s wayyyy to easy to break into those side doors. Also get an alarm that covers all the doors and get a locking tailgate or puck locks on those back doors.

I would hate the drawers up at the front. You have to climb in everytime you need something, and it will really suck if you have a lot of stuff in the truck. But, I'm guessing you keep a clean rig unlike me so it may not be an issue.

  • @dustinstout9617

Need to look into a bed slide so u don't have to climb into the truck. I put inside door skins to keep stuff from making diets from the inside out. I got the same set up almost but I was able to get lights all the way around and in the back.

Definitely overthinking a lot, but having spent a while working out of a very similar truck cap the bin system is going to be a lifesaver, but trying to keep all of everything in a box is a little excessive. I really like the bins purpose built for spray cans and stuff just out of sheet metal. When something is built specifically for a job it’s not really possible to do anything out of a box.

I’ve had about three of those ARA shells super great shells you should’ve got the doors skinned on the inside that way if something falls and hits the door it doesn’t show the dent on the outside painted panel.

Just saying those packout boxes waste a ton of space in a pickup you would be much better off building a set of slide out drawers. That run the full length of the bed. Then you could sell all them pack out boxes and take a vacation LOL
