The pace of the video is perfect. Enough detail to understand but fast enough to not drag. The lighting is great and the framing works well for a mix of detail but showing enough of the piece for context. Clearly a lot of effort on your part
I find this video quite intuitive and even relaxing to watch. Your finished product came out gorgeous and clean. I particularly liked your technique for the chest plate gem icon and creating that illusion of translucency.
Pacing, detail, and also the fact that you slow down and show certain aspects of what's going on brush wise in good detail! I wish I could give you more of a reason for the intuitive nature of it but its hard to describe. Also the color and quality of the video is super high. Good structure to the whole video too. The steps all make sense. Like the calm music as well.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record. As everyone else stated the pacing is perfect, music is solid choice, you showed the process very thoroughly and neatly. Only thing I can think of potentially adding is maybe adding in the same video your basing process but that's not even a critique since you link the basing video at the end lol. Seriously though grade A work man. Definitely gonna recommend you to friends.
On the topic of custom mixes: when you find a mix you like, buy whatever paint you need to mix your own in mixing pot. I did this for my Custodes and it is 1000% worth the effort to mix my own pot so I don't have to worry about color matching at all down the road.
Absolutely! This is great advice for sure. I have a number of “exclusive Brushstroke” colours for exactly this reason. 👍🏻 Same goes for washes. I have pots of pre-thinned shades and contrast colour to the ratio I like to make it quick and easy to get the same result over and over
The rope/cords on military uniforms are called an Aiguillette (also spelled aiglet or aglet). Historically, they date back to the laces knights used to secure plates of armor together, and which were often also decorative, especially for knights of higher rank/wealth and increasingly so as armor became more ornamental and ceremonial than practical. Later they were adapted to close seams and obscure slashes or tears in uniforms for dress occasions, and in modern times are included in the dress uniforms in several militaries, especially for officers.
How do you not have more subscribers, these are the nicest paint jobs i've seen on RUclips, easy to follow what you're doing also. When i start to paint my army i'll be following these video guides, very nicely done.
Thank you. Glad you found it useful 👍🏻 Keeping a dry paint reference has saved my neck a few times now. Even with a written mixing recipe, the tone can still differ quite a bit. Never hurts to be safe 👍🏻
"I've spent a long time trying to find the perfect purple" man I felt this! 😂. Love this, very chill and it feels like an achievable tutorial even for me! Chaos Knights is definitely the way forward
Haha, yeah that was from the heart that statement for sure I lost count of the different tones I tried for this. I’m very happy with the one I went for in the end. Just what I was aiming for Good luck in draw
That purple mix is great, but i have no ECs 😅 Btw i like the advices on the brush sizes for the different parts of the miniature (loancloth). And.. Chaos Knights 😉
I absolutely love your videos! I have learned so much to refine my own painting abilities. The way you constantly repeat and reinforce the basics as you are working through is wonderful. By far my favorite painting channel and I wish there were more videos and more often! I would love to see some zenos races, especially Necrons and Orks!! Hopefully we can see those sometime. Honestly though, I will watch anything and everything you do anyways.
Thank you 🙏🏻 It’s so great to hear you’re enjoying my videos. I would really love to be able to post more videos more often too, but unfortunately the pressures of the day job get in the way. Maybe one day I’ll be able to RUclips as a living, but I’m a very long way off that 🤣 Will see what I can do about adding some xenos videos 👍🏻
This paint scheme has given me the push I needed to start an emperor's children army! Plus a fancy chaos knight would really be a great centrepiece in those colours
It's been great watching this come together in all the sub-assemblies over on IG, the clean look is very fitting for the Emperor's children. I really enjoyed watching how it was done!
Thank you. It’s such a cool looking model and I’m super proud to say it won me a Golden Demon finalist pin. So one of my fave minis for sure. To hear it has made you love EC too, is so cool. Thanks for checking out my channel 👍
I love how clean and sharp your painting style is, especially in this video, and congrats on 20k subscribers! and for the giveaway Chaos Knights would be a really cool set to have
Been using your tutorials as reference for various techniques for a while man. Absolutely stunning work, like always. As for the giveaway, that chaos knight would complement my new word bearers army very well!
Love how you have done the gold. Really helpful as I have been struggling with trying to find a gold recipe for my Emperor's Children army. For the compo, definitely in for the chaos knight
Thank you I opted for this tone of gold as I feel it compliments the purple best. Too yellow a gold makes the scheme look too sickly imo Best of luck in the draw
Loving your tutorials, it's nice to see a winter that looks like they are taking their time and not rushing. So many YT tutorials kinda just take everything in their stride. For you give away I would love the chaos knight, lovely model and always wanted one
Looks class man! I plan on trying to recreating this for my EC for my first Heresy army. Congrats on the 20k milestone but I surprised you don't have way more then that! For the giveaway I would have to say the Knight box, always thought they would be an amazing project to work on. Would love to do something similar to your take on the Minotaurs chapter.
Extremely clean! I really like the colour balance between purple and golds. I definitely need to do a paint scheme like this. If I was fortunate enough to win, I would love to add the King to my gargants.
Very chilled and enjoyable video. The surface tension technique on the gems was new to me and very cool! If I win the draw, I'd love the Chaos Knights box. Thanks!
Thank you I know the surface tension thing is a bit odd and I’m probably the only person who does it like this. But hey, it works it produces a cool result, so I think why not? 😀 Good luck in the draw
Glad you put this on your community feed as I had missed it. Lovely work and quite nice to see long transitions on some detail work. If I were mega lucky and won your giveaway I'd really like the Knights 🙂
You're painting guides have always been enjoyable to watch. I always pick up new techniques or ways to approach different areas of a model. Thanks for the time you spend creating these videos. In your contest, I'd choose the King Brodd model. Thanks again!!
Love how crisp these paint jobs are, and that they don't take loads of steps that aren't achievable, but just patience and skill. Love me some Chaos Knights!
Love the little nuggets of knowledge you mention in each video. Really helpful for newbies. Got a kind of Bob Ross vibe. Also, I wish luck to everyone for the raffle. My eyes are on the chaos knight personally.
Thank you. It’s good to hear they’re not intimidating to newbies. I really want people to finish watching and think “well, that seems easy enough, I can do that” Best of luck in the draw
Thank you for the gold highlight tutorial within this video, it helps me a lot. Also the Eshin gray piping bc i always use Abaddon black but this is better. Thank you for these videos. I would love to Win a 40k Knight! Have never had the pleasure of painting one as of yet.
Absolutely FANTASTIC colours. Gave me the final push to Start a HH Emperors Children project i'd been putting off for ages. QUICK TIP for those like me who couldn't/cant get their hands on the S75 and ProAcryl paints for the purple: Citadel Genestealer Purple over a white undercoat comes out pretty similar to this. It isn't a perfect match, but still looks alright.
I am a new painter which is to say I am not confident in mixing my own colors yet. However, this is a simple mix that is a clear Emperors Children perfect fit. I hadn’t seen a great match but this is definitely it and it’s easy (not intimidating to mix up). Please make more content! Love HH stuff.
Thanks for watching, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Paint mixing can feel very daunting at first, but you’re right, this is a simple one to get started with and very easy to replicate. As I mentioned in the video, it’s always worth keeping a dried paint sample available to compare against, as well as your written ratios, just to be certain. Do give it a go though, you’ll see it’s actually very satisfying and produces a lovely purple. 👍
Long time lurker, first time commenter. Won't lie, commenting for the competition: Chaos Knight Army Set please! Will take this moment to congratulate you on your subs milestone though. It's very well deserved. I'm a complete amateur painter, and don't often watch too many painting videos because I always feel woefully inadequate! However, I find your videos extremely accessible as you clearly explain the stages and the reasons behind, dropping in little tips and tricks purely as part of the process without making a big thing about them. More over, I find your videos very calming: your voice and the soft background music really help. All said, I love you work, thank you! Regarding the ropes and tassels: no idea what they're actually supposed to be, but I've always considered them to be a mixture of prayer ropes from religious dress and military aiguillettes from dress uniforms.
Thank you 🙏🏻 Lurkers are very much welcome 🤛🏻 All I want is for people to enjoy the videos and hopefully encourage them to give it a go. I’ll let you get back to lurking 👀 best of luck with the draw 👍🏻
The progression of the channel from those first painting guides on FB through to the well crafted YT videos has been fun to watch (and educational - but keep up the stage by stage Instagram photos, they're awesome. Congrats on the follower milestone. In the unlikely event I win, it would hae to be the Chaos Knights
Great tutorial with lots of clever tips. You've tempted me to buy some emporers children to add to my pile of shame. Really liked how the gem turned out. If the gods decide I'd love to get ahold of that chaos knights box. But I'd be equally happy with the giant.
Mad congrats on the 20k mate that’s an awesome achievement! This is a beautifully painted mini, love the contrast of colours and the clarity of your explanations! Here’s to the next 20k! Chaos Knights would be my preference please if I’m lucky enough to be picked, best of luck to everyone in this awesome community!
Such a clean paint job! It was very therapeutic to watch. Also commenting in the hope of winning the Chaos Knight set to start a force for the Dark Gods!
Looking for a guide on purple and gold, this more than fits the bill. Grats on the milestone and in sticking with the video theme, knights would be my preference.
Have loved watching your videos since I found the tutorial for the desert base! And everything else since then has not disappointed👍 it’s just awesome to watch a channel that is actually putting out quality painting tutorials too and not clickbait. Keep up the great work! Also I’m literally down for either one of those boxes🤩
Thank you very much Your continued support is much appreciated 👍🏻 I’m glad you find the videos to be of value and not cheap clickbait Best of luck in the draw
Love the videos, had thought about an emperors children allied detachment for my sons of Horus and now I’ve got this paint guild, I can envisage it actually happening. I’d love to win a chaos knight, would push me to start collecting a 40k army again
May you prosper even more - Congrats! Awesome miniature. I love the paint scheme. It would have to be the Chaos Knights Army Set box for me. Good luck to everyone!
Watching your painting technique is great. I've been a subscriber for a while now. Always amazed at your patience when teaching. Sons of Behemat King Brodd
Your tutorials have helped me so much in learning how to paint in an efficient and smart way. Love the process of sub assembly now it makes everything so much easier. If I win, I wouldn't mind the chaos knight. Good luck to everyone
I watch Jon Bius and he had a referral to you. I liked what I saw and subscribed to your channel. Very nice techniques and yes the details and explanations were excellent. I did enjoy all the tips and hints. I do not paint miniatures (at least not yet) but I use the techniques learned from Jon and you to help me in my painting in N-scale railroading.
Welcome to my channel. I’m very grateful to Jon for his referral and thankful to you for taking the time to check out my videos. Its great to hear you like what you’ve found and have chosen to subscribe. Your support is very much appreciated. Scale railways? Nice! As you say, a lot of the skills are transferable and truth be told I suspect a lot of them have been “borrowed” from model railwayers anyway. Certainly a lot of the products I use for weathering and basing are from railway sources. Great to have you aboard! 👍🏻 (gotta love a railway pun 🤣)
The attention to detail that you've provided with your video format has made it possible for me to make better decisions, and have better technique in my own painting processes. Thank you for that, and chaos knights all the way :)
Loving the purple! I'm always a fan of painting purple myself, but you do it beautifully. And if my luck holds true, I wouldn't mind having a crack at those Chaos Knights :P
A great informative video as always! Have painted my blood angels using one of your previous videos and the turned out great! Congratulations on reaching 20k, I’d love to win a chaos knight set!
I am glad I stumbled across this. I really like the style of the video and how you explain and what you do and so forth. I would love to win the Chaos Knights.

Congrats on getting a finalist pin at Golden Demon on this model! Well deserved.
Thank you very much.
As you can see, it was just simple clean coats. Nothing more 👍
I love how he shows the brush strokes and angles. It really helps us learn and master the technique. Best display of edge highlights.
Thank you
So great to hear you find my style of videos clear and helpful

One of the coolest Emperors Children Terminators I've ever seen. I love the "purple".

Gotta say purple is one of my favorite colors to paint. Flows well into your reds or blues so very versatile. King Brodd FTW!

Good luck for the draw

Chaos knight box set.
Like the green gems. Subtle and not too stand out which gives it a much nicer effect so it doesn't override the model
Thanks very much
You’re in the draw, good luck
May use this to update by paint scheme for an istvaan 3 diorama i have been working on. Also for the giveaway King brodd would be cool i think.

Very clean looking, and quite soft, great job overall. If I were to win I would probably pick knights, as I’ve never painted any.

(gotta love a railway pun 🤣)
Congrats on the 20k.paint work so smooth as usual.chaos knight
