@@fizzypoppeach Makes me so sad... Rain Code is so fun I love it a lot. It still has some of the issues Kodaka just generally has, including Chapter 3 being bad syndrome, but I think it's a really great piece of media that's more like a love letter to Danganronpa rather than actually being it. It's similarities to Danganronpa are it's biggest strength and it's biggest weakness, and sometimes the novelty of the way nothing truly like it will ever exist of a piece of media again makes me love it more lol.

I mean Danganronpa wasn't particularly popular once it first came out, it was actually kinda niche for a while.
Rain: Code by being a different IP and not carrying over every element that made people like DR probably just isn't as immediately popular.
I mean Rain: Code is fantastic, but it lacks a lot of DR's unique charm.
There is no immediate threat, less desperation, the concept is less immediately eye catching, despite being more unique.
The dungeons feel very persona 5 palaces x class trials but lack either of their greatest strenghts by being a walking simulator and any case discussion being devoid of other characters providing their insights. The cases themselves while interesting always feel more small scale, because you have like 3 to 4 suspects at most and usually can exclude half of them easily, it's like Ace Attorney where you goal is solving the how and less of the who.
All of those factors simply create less intrigue or reason for people to play the game when many things they care for aren't present.

since it’s Kodaka and the person behind the Zero Escape series, I have no doubt that the overall story will be good 💯 The rpg like gameplay will be a interesting thing to see but I have faith it’ll work out the more we see it. Can’t wait until it comes out!!

From Kodaka's interview with Famitsu seems like this was supposed to be Too Kyo Games' original IP and what he & Uchikoshi were supposed to be collabing on right out the gate. But because the publisher negotiations fell through, they had to shelve it and work on other stuff in the meantime while building up cred for their company. The way he describes it makes it feel like everything Too Kyo Games did in the past 7 years was leading up to this project- and they even went into debt for it. Kodaka seems adamant that this is the project they've staked their entire company on and the one do-or-die risk that'll define them:
"This is the first collaborative work between Uchikoshi and me, and our first in-house IP. We are not satisfied with just developing a properly interesting game. Let's remember our strengths and compete again. If we are going to remake it, let's attack overwhelmingly. We have decided to make a work that would never be made by ordinary people, a work that would be considered "crazy", and have proceeded with development...The core mechanism would be a spoiler, so for now we don't have any plans to reveal it before the release, but if you actually play the game, I think you'll realize that Too Kyo Games is crazy. You'll also understand why Uchikoshi and I teamed up, and you'll understand why we recruited new people and had multiple scenario writers participate in this title" (Google TLed)
Either way I'm sure whatever they have planned goes beyond a DGR rehash with SRPG elements, especially since these are two of the most red-herring troll devs out there. Feels almost like they're purposely invoking DGR elements just to screw with the fanbase. I wasn't sold on the trailer either but with this context this is definitely the most hype game of the whole Direct for me. Especially since I'm certain there's no way Uchikoshi would just let Kodaka remake DGR without putting his own nutso spin on it with like 5 layers of metafiction and quantum physics.

If this new game feels anywhere as nice to experience as Rain: Code did then it's already good in my eyes.
Not sure about calling it a spiritual successor though. At least from what it looks like it's less that the students will be at each others throats and more that it will be allies fall in war kind of deal.
For those who played it, it gives real Fire Emblem Three Houses vibes, in terms narrative structure and gameplay at least.
As long as there isn't some kind of traitor every chapter or there are conflicts of ressources I can't imagine this turning into a DR style murder mystery.
I think Rain: Code with it's destinct focus on murder mystery will end up feeling closer to DR than this.

Interesting! For me at the moment The Hundred Line feels more like just "Danganronpa but a slightly different concept because there's someone else being brought on, and we can't actually do another Danganronpa" and Rain Code felt more like a love letter to Danganronpa fans while being its own thing entirely but I'm excited to see if it goes on to have it's own identity successfully

@@chlozentimesI really like where they are taking it, because let's be honest the concept is very intentionally similar.
It's basically DR1 structurally but what if you actually had to defend against the swarms of Monokumas from UDG.
I just think the narrative, aside from the similarities now, won't be even close... think of it as a calculated guess .
