It's 2022 and I play solo cornet in a training band, We're learning to play this, so I thought I'd listen to it played by some professionals. This is the first video I find, and lo and behold, there's a loose family connection. In the 1960's, my parents met and fell in love in my maternal grandfather's choir, the Ivor Evans Singers. They took part in many choir competitions, one of which was at the Royal Albert Hall. Much like the Eurovision Song Contest, while the votes were being counted, there was some entertainment for the audience so they didn't get fidgety. The entertainment was Harry Mortimer and his band. Mum always said he was a 'big deal', but I didn't realise how big a deal he was until I started playing brass again in my mid-40's.

Me too I played it in the Blacktown District Junior Band in the 70's. Eric Ball has written some of the most sublime sound scapes.
