Played this as a test piece in the 70s, and have loved it ever since. Fine playing, as always, by G. U. S.

Amazing how one can recognise a player by his sound. Yes it is John Berryman lead cornet - on left in photo!! Again thanks for great collection Mr.Ransome.!

Actually the euphonium player on this recording is Bert Sullivan not Trevor Groom , it was recorded before Trevor joined the band in 1964, although Trevor was a former pupil of Bert .Both of them were brilliant euphonium players of their time and I played with both.

The CWS Manchester Band recorded this in the early 60's. For awhile, they ruled the brass band rule under Harry Mortimer.

In about 1962 my father took me to a concert in Middelburg (Netherlands) of the Munn & Felton band, later GUS band and nowadays Ridgid Containers Band. I was very impressed with John Berryman and David Reed on cornet and Bert Sullivan on euphonium. Trevor Groom was also there. I think conductor H. Boddington derived a very special tune from this band. Amazing! Never heard a band with the same tune!!
In 1980 we looked for this band in Kettering, England, in order to vist a rehearsal and be present during a radio broadcasting in London. Trevor Groome was still present. Conductor Keith Wilkinson. However the expected tune was gone.
What remain are the RUclips uploads of Mr Ransome51. Thanks again for it.

Absolutely! I used to have several of the CWS Manchester recordings along with Ford/Fairley bands. Brings me back several years as I used to play in an SA band.
