    At school for an art project I needed to draw elephants. I had a special day out to London Zoo and when I got there, they said the Elephants had now been moved. I asked the information desk if they had anything like elephants which wasn’t a question they were prepared for. Needless to say, to achieve the art project I drew elephant toys from the gift shop. Mission accomplished.

    • @ZSHplays
      @ZSHplays  Год назад +1

      Haha very resourceful! The Elephants were moved to Whipsnade about 25 years ago I think. They have Babirusa there now!

      Admittedly this was 16 years ago, so even then I was 10 years too late. I guess I hadn’t had reason to go between childhood and the end of secondary school.

      I thought to go there because I had a visceral memory of watching an old couple eat sandwiches next to the elephants and gagging at the idea since it stank.

    There's a few things that I want to mention.
    The first thing is that the parrot house is still around and it now only houses macaws.
    The second thing is that not only does the Cassion pavillion house Buru babirusa nowadays but it also houses red river hogs next to the entrance to Tiger Territory.
    The third thing is that that the giraffe house doesn't just houses giraffes, Chapman's zebras and okapis but it also houses red forest duikers which lives with the okapis.

    • @ZSHplays
      @ZSHplays  Год назад

      Thanks for the feedback. The Parrot House was removed to create Penguin Beach, the entrance archway is all that remains, standing along on the path from the Penguins to the Butterfly House. The Casson does have Babirusa these days but they are outside, the building itself is inaccessible. The Giraffe House does indeed still have Zebra and Okapi though.

    This is such a lovely lovely build. I saw the clock tower and realized that you stick to the 1800s design, and not the rebuilt 1946 version, which is a very nice touch. I love this build so much since I live far away from London and cannot visit it in person, so having this tour is like a god send. Thank you so much. Your recounting of what was in the 80-90s versus now is also a very nice nostalgic touch.
    Since I am building my own small zoological gardens in Minecraft, im looking for inspirations, and apart from googling images online, finding your build had really inspired me. Thank you

    • @ZSHplays
      @ZSHplays  6 месяцев назад +1

      What a sweet comment, thank you! I seem to remember basing the clock tower on google maps so not sure why it looks like the 1800s haha! Possibly a limitation of the pieces in the game or my skills back when I made this.

    This is actually incredible. The amount of detail and research that's gone into this is astounding. London Zoo has some of the most amazing architecture and history so it's perfect to recreate in Planet Zoo. I wish I could've visited the place in its heyday and seen some of the more now derelict areas in use. I was actually building an up to date version of London Zoo in Planet Zoo but ran into some problems since I started it back when the game first came out and didn't quite get everything right but it was slowly getting there. Seeing this complete version you've created is so brilliant. Great job.

      Thanks Mathletee! I'm so glad you like it, it's been a real labour of love! It would have been much more accurate in sandbox but I just love how franchise mode makes it feel like a 'real' zoo! You really have to work to keep everything together. The only changes I've made in sandbox have been removing all the wooden kerbs (what was I thinking?!), concreting the gaps between the habitats and paths and splitting the bear mountain into more habitats in order to squeeze in the Polar & Sun Bears! The rest has just been adding all the new animals. I couldn't consider it finished until it had Sea Lions in there!

    Yes the Casson now hold 1 female Babirusa (since 2020) and 7 Red River Hogs (since 2019- from ZSL Whipsnade). They did have a male babirusa named Budi but he sadly passed away in July this year. Babirusa are one of my favourite mammals so I hope the zoo gets a new male sometime.

    I was thinking, if you wanted to do another challenge/series similar to this then maybe now it’s close the old Bristol Zoo at Clifton?
    It wasn’t the biggest in the UK but was one of the oldest (1836-2022).
    Completely up to you how you tackle it e.g. pick a specific year/era or mix and match. I say this, as they used to have elephants, polar bears and monkeys even Orangutans but I’m not 100% sure if they ever crossed paths (lived at the zoo the same time) but all had gone by mid/late 1900s, if not sooner lol.
    In 1928, the pretty famous ‘Monkey Temple’ was built and house monkeys (not sure which species unfortunately) but some point from I’d say 1928-2004 monkeys no longer used it but the building still stood. So, would be cool to maybe house monkeys in that, but again, completely up to you!

      Hi Oliwia, thanks of your comment. According to my research, in the 1980s the majority of the habitats either had a dusty/sandy floor like the Elephants or a planted grass floor (the grass planted into a matrix) like in the ape & monkey section. There were certainly some concrete-floored areas like the Mappin Terraces which I have recreated here. You're right about the enrichment though, I needed more of it to keep the animals happy in the game!
