Can't believe so much time has passed since the game came out. And seeing Zelda break after she finally unlocked her power through what she thought was his life with that final look he gifted her, one of apology and relief that she would be fine... Truly a great scene and one of my favorites in this game.
Epic awakening! Good good. And link (nearly) died like a true hero should: facing overwhelming odds until finally numbers overwhelmed skill, protecting his charge to the last.
Yea. And if I think about it, Ganon has awesome super powers, Zelda has awesome super powers, but all link has is his skills and Ganon Kryptonite (aka Master Sword.) Poor Zelda is so stressed in this game, she needs to eat a big tub of ice-cream with Link after this is over. (Assuming the world still has ice cream and isn't wiped of the face of the universe by Ganon)
I always like to think that at 1:25 when Link looks at Zelda one last time, he’s saying “I’m sorry I have to leave you now too, but stay strong, and have courage. You didn’t fail anybody” as a last goodbye.
This is so cute 😭 everyone else has ruined this memory for me by making fun of how angry he looks but this is adorable and now I have a new outlook on it
This one was powerful. There’s no exact connection to romance between these two, but the fact that Zelda lost everything: her friends, her father, her kingdom and still didn’t awaken her power with that loss, but with almost the loss of Link…that shows how deep in love she was with him. Then she cries on him, Fi speaks and says: nah, girl! He’s alive. Stay calm, you’ve got a chance. Very powerful.
Not to mention her presence at the battle to save Link's quiet hometown. She was thinking beyond his duty to only her. So many massive tragedies were occurring at more significant strongholds, but this is where she felt it was most important for her and Link to be.
Think of it like this, the champions were killed by one blight, whereas link was not only shown to hold his own against all 4 blights on his own for a bit in hyrule warriors, it seems from the memory that it took nearly an army of gaurdians to bring him down.
The fact that Zelda threw herself infront of Link knowing that her powers weren’t awakened and didn’t think about if they would or not, her only concern what that she had to protect him after all that time he had spent protecting her. She would die before letting anything happen to Link. That is heartbreaking, but just so beautiful to me. Their bond didn’t start out close in the slightest, in fact she almost hated him. But to see their relationship blossom to where Zelda would rather die than see another person she cared about be killed nearly reduces me to tears. AND the fact that Link was so exhausted, weak and wounded yet did not fall until he knew Zelda was safe, he truly is a hero.
Yeah it’s also kinda sad that link really was gonna do exactly as he promised the king In his role he had to protect her with his life and the fact that he really followed through is awesome
I’ll do you one better: He asks her to sing him a song. Her favorite song, her Lullaby. Link fades as the melody is sung over grief-stricken notes, and he passes before she can finish it, leaving her to mourn him. His last thoughts as he fades into darkness are of her, smiling, before all goes black.
@@ihavenoideawhatimdoing4 I wouldn't call it angry, but determined. He did nearly lose his life, and with Zelda's on the line, I personally think he made a promise to himself in that moment. To take down the one who caused harm not only to them, but to the people who were lost during the Great Calamity. Such a powerful moment, regardless.
I love how the music stays quite calm throughout this whole scene. A Hollywood movie and even Tears of the Kingdom would go hard on the music and I love when it happens. But sometimes it's better when there is no or just soft music like in here!
I think my favorite part, other than the music in this, was Links will to protect Zelda. He knows he will probably die, but that doesn’t matter. At first everyone was telling him it is an honor to protect a member of the royal family. Link is just doing his duty as a guard. But as Zelda attempts to grow a bond with him, he opens up, and he cares about her more than just a duty. I feel like that’s why before he died he looked at her. Or when he got back up again to fight a guardian he wouldn’t of beaten. They added so much more to link in this one and it’s awesome.
@@jamelgallagher6602 well yeah, but before being prodigy he wasn't really more valuable than the others. Sure, he was more agile and strong than other knights, but he's still human (well Hylian). So in reality he doesn't have any birth gifted superpowers, it just happens that he's more skilled than the others, but besides that he's just a boy
I mean there’s the last memory where Zelda tries to tell the Deku Tree to tell Link she loves him whenever he comes to get the master sword 100 years in the future. That’s why the tree says “those words would be better coming from you” when he interrupts her before she actually says it.
@@razrv3lc there is actually proof after you finish all the mass shrine quests, he talks to you and says that his teacher loved the princess but she only had eyes for link
This is Zelda's story, through and through. Link is merely a soldier this time around. Zelda is at the heart snd the core of everything. And such a powerful story, filled with failure, despair and eventually victory. A masterpiece
The music after Zelda uses her power is really beautiful and adds to the feels. It sounded really familiar and I knew it was a classic tune that appears in the other LoZ games as well - but I couldn’t figure out what it was. I now just realised that it seems to be a version of Zelda’s Lullaby. Also, from 1:39 to 1:42 there’s a brief moment where the piano plays a small bit from the main legend of zelda theme
Has anyone else noticed, THAT THERES A FIRCKEN WILDFIRE AND ITS POURING Its really hard because rain is symbolic for depression and sadness and fire is like anger fury or seriousness
I know everyone is high on Tears of the Kingdom right now, and it is pretty good. But I think this is still my favorite cutscene for the BotW and TotK story. I enjoyed Zelda's journey to finding her power, and this was a powerful moment for it to surface.
The Sheikah in this scene have Red Eyes. People honestly though that the Sheikah went extinct or something, but clearly this is solid evidence the Sheikah in Kakiro are actual Sheikah, it’s just the red eye trait isn’t dominant.
@@luxbledstone I am so sorry this is such a delayed response, but yea! I can see that, but I’m pretty sure the sheikah still were taught culture n stuff
The first time I saw this scene, I hen links head dropped back in Zelda’s arms I nearly cried. Like this was my first Zelda game but I had grown so close to the characters.
I've noticed.....unlike past Zelda's before her, she uses the ENTIRE triforce power, she doesn't use just triforce of Wisdom, meaning she has them all, unlike in the past which explains why Link doesn't have his courage triforce and "ganon" whose basically just demise doesn't need the trifroce of power because he was already a demon anyway, which is why he's known as the demon king. And in that moment she both gained courage to go against the enemy, wisdom to know immediately what to do, and giving her power to wistand the enemy's attack. Besides the Zelda in Skyward Sword being Literally Hylia reborn, this Zelda can literally be rated as the strongest Zelda because she has obtained not her iconic wisdom but all of them.
I’ve always wanted to know what was of the two sheikah that took link to the shrine of resurrection, they were also heroes, if it wasn’t for them as well, Link would’ve died and that would be the end of everything
@@user-ll8lw6jy3l I think there's a lot of sheikah carrying Link to the shrine, they probably bad every warrior near Link at all times, with many dying to guardians, lynels, and other terrifying monsters to buy time for Robbie, Purah, Impa, and many more to deliver Link to the shrine. Those 2 who originally receive the order, they may be another casualty in a sea of blood and shadows. And that's also why we never see many warriors in kakariko (basically only Dorian and Kado), they all died fighting to their final breath for the hero, for Hyrule, for Hylia.
I've always felt so bad for Zelda... There's really not one timeline her life isn't pure suffering... No wonder Link is driven to fight so hard for her.
Maybe in the child timeline after Link is sent back to childhood in Ocarina of Time since they basically prevented Ganondorf's rise to power. Zelda was still in Hyrule, seemingly living peacefully when Link left for Termina, and nothing was directly stated as to what what happened to her or Link for that matter post Majora's Mask not counting Heroes Shade.
I always see this as a companion to the Yiga/Zelda memory when Link saves Zelda. Here we see that while Link is the hero, Zelda is needed too. They're a team.
They are much more than a team. Their relationship have a rocky start. Until Zelda begins to bond with Link and learned he shares the similar burden she has. Overtime, their friendship grows stronger until to the point her love for her knight is what awakened her powers. Whether you notice it or not, there is a ton of built ups for their romance.
At the beginning of Skyward Sword (the beginning of the Zelda timeline), Fi is already ancient technology. She was given a single purpose, to aid the hero. In Breath of the Wild (eons later and the last game in the Zelda timeline), The faint voice from the sword (the fading power of Fi) instructs Zelda to take Link to the Shrine of Resurrection. Fi, a misunderstood character from Skyward Sword, is literally the one who saves Link and all of Hyrule in Breath of the Wild.
Not sure if FI survives in Tears of the Kingdom, the sword saw cover with malice and then later broke in the later teasers. Based from the artwork, the sword is split into damage(top) and cover with the power of the entity(long hair lady, possibly midna or someone else)with Zelda.
This memory is triggered in a field of fallen guardians and old weapons everywhere. There was an epic battle and you know Link died kicking some ass. Like an older memory with Link having a scratch on him with Lynels and Hoblins laying everywhere dead.
I love this scene for two reasons... 1, it really sells just how powerful of a hero Link is by just showing all the guardians he defeated by hand while defending Zelda and STILL having the courage to get back up when another shows. It is practically jaw dropping. 2, Zelda's resolve in that dire moment to protect Link. Both very badass moments for both characters. I love it.
I thought it was awesome hearing Fi's sound and Fi's theme in the background. I love that Fi is still in the sword to tell Zelda that Link will survive. In TOTK Zelda refers to the Master Sword as a "she" in one of the memories. I think she and Link know about the spirit inside the sword, and Fi knows how to heal it, which is why she sent it to the past.
0:00 - 0:58: no obvious musical references 0:58 - 1:38: Zelda's Lullaby 1:38 - 1:46: The Legend of Zelda Main theme (often used as Link's theme as well) 1:46 - 1:56: Fi's theme 2:06 - 2:15: return of music from 0:00 - 0:58 Last Chord: 2:15 - end: sounds like the same chord the breath of the wild theme ends on
Why do you think this it’s called the shrine of ressurection? Obviously Link had to rest knowing the princess would be alive and well, holding off the calamity.
I honestly did too. People were too hard on her. The only thing I’d say is sometimes the audio mixing for her felt low/quiet but that’s not the actress’ fault tbh
Hi SammiiCake! I've been watching your videos a lot lately, I see your very good at Legend of Zelda breath of the wild! Also a big thanks for the Dragon videos, it helped me a lot, Now I can enchant my Armor!
This memory legit led to me wanting to learn Japanese. Because I couldn’t bear a whole game of the english voice acting I switched to japanese instead. Much more enjoyable. But in this cutscene the english subtitles didn’t match up at all, since she just kept repeating to Link “shinanaide” I believe. Look it up and… she’s begging him “don’t die”. Yeah what else was missing in translation I wondered, in a scene that’s already so emotional. And I kept wondering about the rest of the game. Turns out the entire mission log is written in 1st person in Japanese. Link’s diary. Talking about after this with regards to saving Zelda from Hyrule Castle that he wants to see her smile again. There’s a fair bit lost in translation throughout this game. Including Zelda referring to the master sword as a woman, implying that when the sword speaks to her, she literally hears Fi’s voice. Makes me wonder what else lies hidden in the original japanese language translation of these games. Character details, poignant lines, hidden meaning… Hidden behind thousands of incomprehensible kanji lies a richer narrative I believe.
The master sword having the same sound as in skyward sword really hit me the first time I heard it. I love that they keep these things in the games even though the time line is a mess
She lost everything she had except him. Her only concern was to save link because that’s the only thing she has left. She would rather die then see another loved one fall. The bond and emotions through this game is truly sad
Zelda really had feelings for him and I understand that link is my hero bro he’s the best hero in the world because he never ever gives up until he’s dead but he always comes back
Link is deadly wounded, the Master-Sword is fatally damaged, but Zelda saved both of them. Fi gave Zelda the Hint to bring Link to the Shine of resurrection and then brought the Master-Sword back to it's Pedestal to recover from the Damage. But jeez, not even me believed that the Master-Sword would get any physical damage. In NONE OTHER GAME OR ERA did the Master-Sword get any physical Damage, not even if it had to face the Anti-Master-Sword of Demise. There is a special reason why these guardians and divine beasts are supposed to stop the Calamity: They couldn't seal the Demonking himself but the Physical Damage they cause would be even a threat to the Master-Sword, that was one created by Hylia but had to be reforged by humans to make Link able to use it.
The fact that Link took his somewhat last look at Zelda making sure she’s still safe and alive eventhough he’s struggling... it’s just so powerful.
I also think it's a "sorry" look because in Japanese version she says, "Don't die, please don't die!"

Yeah it’s also kinda sad that link really was gonna do exactly as he promised the king
In his role he had to protect her with his life and the fact that he really followed through is awesome

Her love for Link is possibly the reason her sealing power is awaken.
1:04 I appreciate the guardian's head falling off at the top there
Damn i just noticed Fi's theme playing when the sword "talks" to Zelda. 5 years and I'm still finding new things about this game.
Imagine if link said one thing to zelda as he looked at her before he died and it was, "I'm sorry"
I really cried seeing this comment:'
“Princess Zelda, I don’t feel so good...”
“I don’t want to go...”

AAAAAAHHHH 😢
I feel like Link should have a different reaction when he recovers this memory because y'know... he kinda died here
He has a angry expression when she says it's time for you to defeat ganon
@@ihavenoideawhatimdoing4 I wouldn't call it angry, but determined. He did nearly lose his life, and with Zelda's on the line, I personally think he made a promise to himself in that moment. To take down the one who caused harm not only to them, but to the people who were lost during the Great Calamity. Such a powerful moment, regardless.
@Michael Eleazar link protecting Zelda from the yiga clan "HYAH"💀
Imagine watching yourself die and acting like it was totally normal lol
Always felt like Fi's theme was a combination of sad but hopeful. Ironically, that's what happens here. Just love how she's still there.
I just wished they delved more into his past like his family and scenes of him beating guards as a 4 year old or pulling the master sword at 12
Link, a normal teenage boy that is actually willing to sacrifice his life only to save the Princess, wow
I love that game
Well he’s not really normal in this game. He is a prodigy being one of the most gifted knights hyrule has had. He could defeat lynels with ease.

Between BOTW and TOTK, this might honesty be the best Zelda and Link in the series. They truly complement each other and can stand together as equals.

Just noticed there’s a ghostly rendition of Zelda’s lullaby
And fi's theme
How it was really obvious
You have to admit, the way link looks at Zelda at the end is proof of Zelink (Zelda and Link ship name)
Not really.
Yeah I think so.😭🧡
I mean there’s the last memory where Zelda tries to tell the Deku Tree to tell Link she loves him whenever he comes to get the master sword 100 years in the future. That’s why the tree says “those words would be better coming from you” when he interrupts her before she actually says it.
@@razrv3lc there is actually proof after you finish all the mass shrine quests, he talks to you and says that his teacher loved the princess but she only had eyes for link
@@razrv3lc And let's not forget Kass's song about the princess's love for her knight attendant. I ship ZeLink in this game, 100%
This is Zelda's story, through and through. Link is merely a soldier this time around. Zelda is at the heart snd the core of everything. And such a powerful story, filled with failure, despair and eventually victory.
A masterpiece
That flashback to fi when zelda talks with the sword
I love the choir singing Zelda's Lullabye when she awakens her power. So ethereal and haunting
This is the only moment in the memories when she calls him by his name.
Let that sink in.
I never noticed that..
Hmmmmmmmm HMMMMM

This scene unironically makes me cry every time I watch it
0:45 *Whitney Houston intensifies*
Everyone says Zelda's despair is the saddest memory, but I think this is more emotional
Man, absolutely love this memory.
Stood with her till thee end a loyal knight
Has anyone else noticed, THAT THERES A FIRCKEN WILDFIRE AND ITS POURING
Its really hard because rain is symbolic for depression and sadness and fire is like anger fury or seriousness
Zelda: Run, Link: must fulfill my mission(tries to stand)... (me: respect)
That 360 pan around Zelda and into the glowing Tri-Force on her hand has got to be one of the greatest cinema shots in gaming history.
I like how this memory and the opening cinematic of Age of Calamity are happening at the same time.
Link was like, "I can still fight". Only really collapsed when she seemed safe, at least for the moment
Joking aside I love this scene
Zelda saying "No!" really got to me
*I felt that*
I know everyone is high on Tears of the Kingdom right now, and it is pretty good. But I think this is still my favorite cutscene for the BotW and TotK story. I enjoyed Zelda's journey to finding her power, and this was a powerful moment for it to surface.
Her love for her hero/knight is the motive Zelda needs to awakening her powers.
The Sheikah in this scene have Red Eyes. People honestly though that the Sheikah went extinct or something, but clearly this is solid evidence the Sheikah in Kakiro are actual Sheikah, it’s just the red eye trait isn’t dominant.
Well it could be like a trait thing with culture anyone without red eyes weren't allowed to learn the skills despite being but if the culture or race.
They're also in wind waker. Or at least one of them (the teacher on windfall,)
@@LillyWhiteFairy yup!
@@luxbledstone I am so sorry this is such a delayed response, but yea! I can see that, but I’m pretty sure the sheikah still were taught culture n stuff
the fact that link was near the brink of death in this scene hurts, really hurts
Link has immediately gained my respect. Trying to fight and protect Zelda yet very injured and exhausted. ✊
He hadn't earned it before? Even after everything he's gone through
The first time I saw this scene, I hen links head dropped back in Zelda’s arms I nearly cried.
Even though the models don't accurately show it, Robbie and Purah tell Link it was them.
Zelda saving Link is literally groundbreaking. Like she’s always the one needing to be saved by Link, but here she saves him instead.
This memory hurts so much...
When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the Greatest Change. - Avatar Aang
I think she and Link know about the spirit inside the sword, and Fi knows how to heal it, which is why she sent it to the past.
the rendition of Zelda's Lullaby that plays when she uses her sealing power always sends chills down my spine
Man, if Mipha actually got to finish what she was going to say before Ganon woke up, this would have turned out so differently.
0:00 - 0:58: no obvious musical references
0:58 - 1:38: Zelda's Lullaby
1:38 - 1:46: The Legend of Zelda Main theme (often used as Link's theme as well)
1:46 - 1:56: Fi's theme
2:06 - 2:15: return of music from 0:00 - 0:58
Last Chord: 2:15 - end: sounds like the same chord the breath of the wild theme ends on
Love how link was 100 percent commited to his role and ready to give his life without question
1:40 Have any of you notice that sound from the Master Sword? That is indeed Fi. I hope we can see her again in BOTW2.
Why do you think this it’s called the shrine of ressurection? Obviously Link had to rest knowing the princess would be alive and well, holding off the calamity.
this scene made me tear up
I just noticed how Fi’s plays very briefly when the sword is flashing. So much attention to detail
I think the voice actress for Zelda in BoTW did a phenomenal job. Hope she returns for the sequel.
I honestly did too. People were too hard on her. The only thing I’d say is sometimes the audio mixing for her felt low/quiet but that’s not the actress’ fault tbh
I start to crie at 1:25
2:06 I just realized that the background music is a speed up version of the title theme from zelda 2 : the adventure of link
Him still trying to stand against the guardians while on his last leg (literally) is so badass to me.

I wish the Shiek wouldve been Impa and Purah and or Robbie, unless they were. But this scene gives me the chills.
I love that they keep these things in the games even though the time line is a mess
reminder that this is the same game where you can put butter on a dog
0:23 If Zelda tells Link to go and save himself, who’s going to protect her?
She lost everything she had except him. Her only concern was to save link because that’s the only thing she has left. She would rather die then see another loved one fall. The bond and emotions through this game is truly sad
😢🥺
even though link is alive, I started bawling when I saw this for the first time. The music, the characterization- it all hit me hard.
I thought those Shekiah members were Yiga Clan members the first time around😂 I was like Link boutta kip-up
Link was pretty much dead at that point, the only thing that kept his body going was the will to protect Zelda and nothing else.
Zelda really had feelings for him and I understand that link is my hero bro he’s the best hero in the world because he never ever gives up until he’s dead but he always comes back
He's earned his place next to two other great heroes. Cloud Strife and Zack Fair.
When the sword spoke to Zelda it sounded like the sound FI wound emit before talking the you in skyward sword
That's exactly what this scene implies, that Fi is still there
I thought it was a reference to skyward sword when I saw this
@@gabey6488 yes it is , fi is still there , though not in her physical form , but she can still talk from inside the sword.
Shes always been there, watching over each hero to wield her.
There is a special reason why these guardians and divine beasts are supposed to stop the Calamity:
They couldn't seal the Demonking himself but the Physical Damage they cause would be even a threat to the Master-Sword, that was one created by Hylia but had to be reforged by humans to make Link able to use it.
