I understand this was 5 years ago, and you truly helped me diagnose my mower issue, but at 2:55 in the video, the positive probe gets knocked out of place on the old coil. But, thank you for your help! 😅
To see if the coil is working or not, all you have to do is unplug the ground going to the coil and try to start the engine. If the engine runs coil is good, if not coil is bad. Much easier than getting a multimeter out and messing around with that. It either works or it doesn't.
Okay. That's good. But that was the secondary resistance (I get that reading 9.6 K ohm). What about the primary resistance (kill switch to back of coil)? Mine is reading 0. Can anyone help me here? I would like to know before I buy a new one. Thanks!
I came here for the same problem, mine is about 1 ohm. You probable figured it out by now but if anyone else wants to know its supposed to read 1.0-1.2 kΩ

Finally a clear explanation! So many folks turn it into rocket science. Thanks!!
Thank you for making this video. I have no spark, and was already thinking it was the coil. To see the process done already helps alot.
Thanks for the ground switch tip. My cable was not sitting in its proper retainer so the ground switch wasn’t making contact. Woohoo!

That's fine if the engine starts but this video is about diagnosing the coil to eliminate it as a suspect.
I got 17.2 ohms on this check and i get no spark to plue after putting back on mower. What else could it be? I have a TEK FL 822 Plug is new.
The coil is solo easy to get to, to adjust, replace; unlike the carburretor which was designed by defectives.
Great video, thanks.
How do you install a kill switch on a gtc 160
great troubleshooting video!
I took spark plug out and try to run..I saw spark on plug. Isn’t that mean ignition is good ?
terrific fix video. aloha, and mahalo nui loa
Awesome, to the point explanation - ill buy you a beer next time i see you ; )
Thanks. What size/thread are the bolts that hold the ignition coil on?
Great video.
