Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Dragon Age, etc). The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of standalone, cinematic branching horror games where the decisions you make in the game determine the story and the outcome you receive.
House of Ashes is the third game in the series.
In House of Ashes, at the close of the Iraq War, Special Forces hunting for weapons of mass destruction unearth something far deadlier - a buried Sumerian temple containing a nest of unearthly creatures. To survive the night below, they must forge a brotherhood with their enemies from the world above.

I think the only iffy bit of this has been the kind of depth of romance they're trying to present between Nick and Rachel. It really has only been like three weeks; they could be getting a bit crazy about each other by that point but not to the extent they've written it. If anyone talked like Nick does three weeks into a relationship I'm pretty sure it'd set off every alarm bell in the other person's head.
Also if I'm being nitpicky, that elevator's gone down to 3400 feet? And it has four thick iron guide chains. Meaning that expedition into the desert took nearly 12,000 feet of chain with them... K.
@@Quintus_Fontane agreed on this point thou maybe the Nick and Rachel bit is just a new love kinda thing and a bit OTT. Not necessirily a red flag/alarm bells.
I feel thou the depth to the characters in this is much better then previous ones and it seems they have learnt alot about the craft of character development over the anthology.
I have high hopes for the last one if im honest considereing it started a bit rocky in writing and settings.
This Chapter just seems to have more depth maybe they can improve the romance writing a bit and take all the criticism on board to knock the last one out of the park story wise.
@@hurrly9036 Aye that's a fair point. If I was coming across as overly negative I didn't intend to, overall I think this was a great ride start to finish. Pleasantly surprised me actually.
@@Quintus_Fontane ooh i wouldntsay overly negatvie i just hope they expand on the criticisms well writtten thoi after eeing the ending it almost seemd rushed a little. each chapter/episode has been better tben the last i just hope it continues imporoving
Maybe they were aliens who contracted the disease aka vampirism and crashed into the earth. I'm pretty surprised by what was down there. I thought it would just have a bunch of cocoons. Can't wait for the next episode.
The game sets up the romance based on your choices. Like they talk differently in the dialogue you don't choose, she wears her wedding ring or not, you even get a different flashback.

Natalie Cahill Soo they're on like a road trip and it shows their marriage before how Eric lost his leg.
The bat-vampire demons are one thing but it looks Jason and Salim just stepped into a nether realm mix between Alien and H.P Lovecraft in this episode.
Salim and Jason are the best characters in this whole game, even before their back stories reveal. They're both likeable and with obvious flaws.
Could someone please get Rachel a towel for her face?

Oh, good that you managed the QTE when Kolchek touched the old vampire. If you didn't he'd have a lung infection from breathing in the ashes of it. And even if he made it out alive, it would be emplied that he wouldn't live long.

I've seen Eric survive if Clarice is present in the big fight. It must have been something else.
Do you know where you saw that? Everything I've seen/read says if Clarice is there, Eric will die.

@@raphaelperry8159 in her first playthrough, he died because Clarice was there and in her second, she left Clarice behind, so it seems you have to leave her behind to save Eric.
I am admiring Mr Odds ability to gloriously spamm the uploads once he is concentrated on the game more than the horrid abominations strenght over the poor soldiers lol

5:49 - Eric deserved so much better. i actually hate rachel and nick a lot. nick got with a married woman basically. rachel just... ditched her husband and got with a guy she has only known for *3 weeks*. this is honestly the worst ending for these 3 characters. gets betrayed by his wife who he was separated with, not divorced. they were still working things out. nick.... well, he didnt even care that she had a husband, he just wanted to get with her and that was it. honestly wonder what it would have been like if eric survived up to this point.
Oh, i'm really liking Salim ans Jason's comradeship, hope it ends well.
also how is there any kind of light so deep down in alien town?
It will not end well. I could see Jason sacrificing himself to save Salim. Probably by the hands of that zombie King
Bioluminescence perhaps? Or some sort of alien flora or fauna maybe. Who knows, it's hardly the most outlandish thing they've seen down there though!

Not gonna lie, out of eveyrone I want Salim to get out so he can see his son again. I do want Nick and Rachel to make it out, too. It honestly looks like another dimension down there.

3:32 Yup, and it's getting really old. I can't stress enough how stupid it is that a huge pipe moving slowly through their chest seems to work just fine, but 6-7 5.56 NATO or 5.45x39 rounds right to the chest are shrugged off like they are nothing. I mean look at 4:24... How is that not effectively being pierced in the heart?
While I like House of Ashes overall, I was expecting something a bit more consistent here because this FEELS like: "Well, it works that way cuz meme!"
It's okay to shut the door sometimes or shoot from a shotgun, you know? Safer even.
This part of the game keeps making me think that the Amnesia series somehow tie into the Dark Anthology series. I also keep thinking that the monsters are somehow just in their heads, because that was the trend in Man of Medan and Little Hope, but I guess this one is just going to play out like Until Dawn.
