Part of why I upload the episodes at the pace and length I do is because of the amount of time I spend preparing an LP. It usually takes me 2-3 months to do so. In general, I also prefer 10-15 minutes, but I felt I wasn't making enough progress per episode in this LP, so I thought I would increase the length a little. I'll try to make the content more worthwhile than simply adding more routine battles. I just figured that leaving in battles that take 5 seconds wasn't so bad.
hey HCBaily, technically Ryu is in the front, seeing as while walking around in a line he is in the middle, when in battle, being in the middle allows the wedge formation to work seeing as the people on both sides of him are behind, formations mean nothing but its a nice way to think of it, that way it wont bug your ocd
Yeah, I generally try to do that. I have a general time frame that I'm looking for, aim for that, and stop once I feel that sufficient progress has been made in that time frame.
11:29 hcbailly teres a "strategy" in wich you really want to revert ryu to his human form, every time he transforms he recovers ALL his hp, si if he is dying as a drake or dragon (btw his first transformations are drakes not dragons) you can revery him to human form and transform again to recover. thats useful when he have to fight alone in the trials.
The Sage Mail (14 Weight) is also heavier than the Bronze Armor (9 Weight); so while it's cheaper to buy, it's still not worth getting (even ignoring the mentioned effect it has). Isn't it great that the game took away 50HP, then gave an Herb that restores said HP in the same chest? I'm a sucker for longer HCBailly videos, personally.
Hmmm, I know you mentioned it in the last episode, but the icicle indeed doesn't make sense. It would make more sense if they went with a canteen, considering what they did in 3, that would also make sense. Ah well, they made 1 before 3, so really the blame lies with the person who invented the number system :P.
I don't mind the extra length these Breath of Fire videos get every now again. I've never played the game before so getting the chance to see 15-20 minutes worth of progress every other day is something I am not going to complain about.
Yeah, the enemies are starting to get enough HP that it's taking awhile to kill them now. Since they're repeat enemies that I can't kill in 5 seconds, I figure it's worth editing them out.
I seem to recall an enemy around called the Fungus, which sorta looks like a cyclopean mushroom covered in red orbs. The jerk loves to use earthquake too. Did HCBailly find it yet?
3:25 Yeah, well, that's just the way Breath of Fire works: you want certain characters in the lead at certain times. 7:10 Wait, is it a SandWorm, or a Chupacabra? I ask cause he said it eats goats. 11:30 Oh hey, Zom1! Also, I don't think I've ever used Ryu's Revert command. I've used Karn's though, when I found out the hard way that Karn can't be fused when you want Ryu to use Agni :/ 19:20 B. Rang
Well, glad to see someone on here appreciates my sexiness and knowledge! So...you wanna be part of my harem? (Also, I'm surprised you said I didn't comment on Part 15, cause I in fact did :/)
I believe HCBailly does. At least, that's what I gathered from him asking us what we think about the way he is handling the length of his videos. Personally, I like the longer videos, especially since you only update Breath of Fire every other day. It makes for a good balance. I say you should keep on doing exactly what you're doing, HCBailly!
Hmmm, a treasure box that can KO a party member outside of battle.... I wonder what would happen if your last party member get KO'd because of that. Would the game just go with the normal 'party is defeated' quote and return to last save point. Or would it somehow glitch the game?
Yeah, it's really not a huge deal. Really the only questionable ones are the 5 flies which take 35+ seconds due to all the animation. I really appreciate the amount of effort you put in these videos btw (been lurking since FF9), at least I know when I see an 20 minute HCBailly video, it's 20 minutes of worth watching content. Unlike most other LPers I see who make 30+ minute videos of them being lost. :)
Hey HC its been a while since I played this particular game but if i remember correctly doesn't Dragon Transform also fully restore Hp when you do it i seem to remember it doing that but i might be wrong. could swear it did though and was usefull to use revert and retransform on some boss fights for the heal.
(1:07) The other treasure was a Cure. Yeah, not extremely important or anything. (8:59) I just got a "Slam" with Ryu's Thunder Dragon in this fight just by attacking normally, and it dealt 260 damage! (9:40) You meant Bo has over 30 AP, not HP, right? (18:28) Is it possible to survive the Boom trap if you have enough HP? Or does it always KO the leader regardless?
I like Bo in the front row instead of Ryu. A) Bo is a scout/ranger type so it makes sense. B) He is actually useful on the world map to have him as lead C) Ryu still look like the main character in battle being in the middle (bonus point for being on the front line alone). I'm playing BOF IV at the moment and I keep Nina in the lead for her field ability. If you haven't tried it, I suggest you give it a try for an hour, I love how you can swap in and out character like BOF 1 so they can regain Ability points passively. Overall just a comment to encourage you to do BOF III & IV. ;)
10-15mins feels like its already almost over as you start the video. 15-20mins suits right for game progression and story telling. Imo you could go up to 25 and i wouldnt mind... Keep up the good work sir!
I've always been a big believer that 15-20 minutes is the perfect length for an LP video, provided sufficient progress is made in said time. If need be, going a little over 20 minutes is perfectly OK, especially if it means getting through a major plot point, boss battle, or in games that have them, cut scenes. Anything more than 25-30 minutes, and you're starting to lose me...unless you're talking about a finale episode, of course. Those can be as long as need be to accommodate the ending.
Thanks, I appreciate your support. My policy to to not accept money donations. I'm certainly not rich, but I'm stable and have my ideal job. I have had some viewers donate games to me before.
It's really all up to you, HCBailly. If you feel like going for some extra length on an episode, knock yourself out. If not, that's ok. Personally, I wouldn't mind longer videos if you can spread them out. Don't make them too long or you'll end an LP sooner than usual. Make them last a little bit.
You could make these episodes 1 hour long and I wouldn't mind in the least, I'd just grab a snack and a pop and get comfy. Of course you can probably assume I don't mind longer videos
I like 20 minute videos myself, helps games go a little faster, has me looking around for other videos less. I can see why people would like shorter videos though.
UGH. Now that the first responder liked 10-15 min eps with no random battles I hope we aren't stuck with it. I definitely prefer the idea of progressed based eps even if it means it goes slightly over the 15 mins. And please don't minimize the rnd battles (only showing the required ones) I think your current EOCB (editing of common battles) is just fine. So how about keeping the limit to 15 minutes, but make that relaxed so you can finish a dungeon, or town, etc to get to a nice stopping point
Definitely prefer the 10-15 minute episodes overall. Feels like as the videos are getting longer, the only difference is more routine random battles are being shown. I'm not sure if it'd help you at all, but I would personally in the slower periods of the game record two episodes at once and ensure a more consistent schedule. I know you don't like to get too far ahead in order to react to viewer feedback though. I also worry if 20 minutes becomes standard the episodes would creep longer.
I think 20 minutes would be a bit long to do every video, but if you're only thinking of doing it every so often, that'd be fine. I was always left wanting more when you were limited to 10 minutes, but 15, I always thought was the perfect video length.
I'd prefer if the video length was based more on amount of progress made rather than time alone. For example, I'd rather watch a 10 minute video where a whole lot of major plot points happen, than a 20 minute video where there is only some item selling, random battles, and travelling from Town A to Town B.
Personally, I don't mind 10-20 minute videos...but that's just me. But I say stay close to 15 minutes...unless something epic is going to happen...then you can let it slide a bit.
Might as well make these a little longer. RPGs, "J" or not, really benefit from not being limited to ten minutes at a shot. Other games, maybe not so much, but here, yeah, longer might be better.
HCbaily you are the only jrpg nerd i know so why is it that when your asleep you dont wake up? i mean yeah i can sleep though a band but im not them and plz dont say game physics
Always nice to see 15-20 minute episodes when possible without undue trouble---20 min especially makes for a nicely rounded viewing experience.
20 minutes of HCBailly every other day? SIGN ME UP!
hey HCBaily, technically Ryu is in the front, seeing as while walking around in a line he is in the middle, when in battle, being in the middle allows the wedge formation to work seeing as the people on both sides of him are behind, formations mean nothing but its a nice way to think of it, that way it wont bug your ocd
I like that.
Designer of pyramid: "I'll add this lock door for security."
"And this obvious pathway that negates said lock."
"Sounds good to me."
Calvin and Hobbes reference in the title? Take my money. Take it all!
Yeah, I generally try to do that. I have a general time frame that I'm looking for, aim for that, and stop once I feel that sufficient progress has been made in that time frame.
SandClod was probably supposed to be SandCloud, but the character limit had other ideas. I like the 15 to 20 minute episodes for this LP
I honestly have no problems with any format you've ued and I've been watching your vid for about 1.5 years. Keep kicking ass :D
I enjoy the longer videos, as this is one of my favorite jRPGs ever. More, please!
It would've been wiser to buy a Dagger before going into Krypt.
A couple SunHTs would also be wise for fire resistance.
20 minute episodes are perfect IMO.
I just wanted to say HCBaily you are the best RPG Let's Player on youtube! Keep up the awesome work! :D
I'm seeing a lot of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy elements in this game, which is to be expected.
15 - 20 mins is awesome!! love these episodes, its my hcbailly nightly telly haha

"Of course there's Sandworms, just like all good JRPGS."
And of course in good movies, like Beetlejuice.
The boomerang is op, it can crit on a whole group of monsters xD
Hmmm, I know you mentioned it in the last episode, but the icicle indeed doesn't make sense. It would make more sense if they went with a canteen, considering what they did in 3, that would also make sense. Ah well, they made 1 before 3, so really the blame lies with the person who invented the number system :P.
This desert look very like the FF6 one in is shape, i was almost hoped to see a castle and some guy on robots here :D
Yay for longer videos! I'm enjoying this Let's Play a lot! :)
I don't mind the extra length these Breath of Fire videos get every now again. I've never played the game before so getting the chance to see 15-20 minutes worth of progress every other day is something I am not going to complain about.

+EarthPhantomTS Hello XD
Well, glad to see someone on here appreciates my sexiness and knowledge!

Though I suppose getting the dagger in Krypt also works
15 to 20 minutes is a good length for this loyal viewer
I guess Arad is the Jawa home town.
I can never get used to Breath of Fire and Golden Sun... I use Flare and things don't DIE!
Clod: A lump of earth or clay
Oh man, I love nuts! Peanuts, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, almonds! Mix with dried berries and you've got a wonderful snack!
Hell, I'd love more than 20 minutes of Bailly each day but that's a bit much to ask for, so I'm pretty happy with the 15-20 minute vids. ^.^
Hmmm, a treasure box that can KO a party member outside of battle.... I wonder what would happen if your last party member get KO'd because of that.
Would the game just go with the normal 'party is defeated' quote and return to last save point.
Or would it somehow glitch the game?
Gnat Attack was one of my most used features in Mario Paint! I could never pass my second cycle though...
Yeah, it's really not a huge deal. Really the only questionable ones are the 5 flies which take 35+ seconds due to all the animation.

Maybe B. Rang is a bladed boomerang or something? That...sounds like it would be more menacing.
I purchased the Sages Armor at Auria. It was good enough for Bo there, but it would have weighed him down quite a bit. ^^
Overall just a comment to encourage you to do BOF III & IV. ;)
If only you got past this boss... the cliffhanger that you could have done!
10-15mins feels like its already almost over as you start the video.
15-20mins suits right for game progression and story telling.
Imo you could go up to 25 and i wouldnt mind... Keep up the good work sir!
Digital would probably be the best way to go.
Good call!
Father! The sleeper has awakened! ^_^
The music in the dungeon reminds me of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (just can't remember which dungeon.)
HCBailly - I'm a little surprised and a bit sad that you didn't use any beetle juice reference during the sand worm fight.
I've always been a big believer that 15-20 minutes is the perfect length for an LP video, provided sufficient progress is made in said time. 4:00 : Classic HCBailly!

Sand Worms!?
RUN BEETLEJUICE RUN!
19:21 But isn't the boomerang already "broken"?
"Hulk Smash!"
Well... if you think about it...
ALWAYS 20 minutes can get a little grating, even though I love this game.
So maybe every other day and I'd have no problems.
I've heard of the sword in the stone but a boomerang? Now you're just talking crazy.
It was always a pain in the ass to backtrack for the BRang. But it was worth it so...
For an episode every other day. I personally prefer the longer videos. But I don't want you to get burned out either,
Sagemail is also alot heavier than the bronzearmor
You could make these episodes 1 hour long and I wouldn't mind in the least, I'd just grab a snack and a pop and get comfy. Of course you can probably assume I don't mind longer videos
15-20 is perfect for this LP do to its bulk
Hey @HCBailly would you ever consider lp'ing the Mario & Luigi series?
your are correct HCBaily peanuts are a member of the bean family and thus not a nut
One, where's the fife? And two, gimme the fife.
I like 20 minute videos myself, helps games go a little faster, has me looking around for other videos less. I can see why people would like shorter videos though.
I guess between 15 to 17 minutes is the sweet spot.
I wasn't aware HCBailly played Mega Man X. Or maybe he said he played it in a previous LP and I wasn't listening.
UGH. Now that the first responder liked 10-15 min eps with no random battles I hope we aren't stuck with it. I definitely prefer the idea of progressed based eps even if it means it goes slightly over the 15 mins. If it was on a daily upload I'd say 10-15 is fine, but since it's every other day I vote 15-20 as a good time.
man thanks to your lp i be still look wer the hack i muss go

longer vids are great
I think SandClods are supposed to be Sand Clouds.

Longer videos are just fine in my opinion.
At least they aren't as hard as the ff4 DS sand worms -_- those things kill EVERYONE
if I have time to watch something for 20 mins I tend to watch anime over youtube videos, better to have it at 10-15 mins imo
HCBaily, is there a paypal donation page for you?
The ones allergic to nuts? xD
Generally for LPing I'd say 15-20 minutes ;)
Are..... Are the people of Arad Jawa's?
Come on HCBailly you're gonna tell me you dont like cashews? For shame.
I say go for more length, since its not daily and you haven't hit the point where you're editing out many battles, it'll help!
I'd prefer if the video length was based more on amount of progress made rather than time alone. For example, I'd rather watch a 10 minute video where a whole lot of major plot points happen, than a 20 minute video where there is only some item selling, random battles, and travelling from Town A to Town B.
It's so weird to look at my characters being Level 19 and yours are only 14/15.
HCBaily when Final Fantasy X HD is out forget any LP and play
If you want hard Mimics, go to the Omega Ruins in Final Fantasy X. Those things are ANNOYING!!!
as in when your attacked
Anyone who complains about any of the episodes being too short needs to go back to the under 10 minute video days ;/
Personally, I don't mind 10-20 minute videos...but that's just me.
But I say stay close to 15 minutes...unless something epic is going to happen...then you can let it slide a bit.
no disgaea 4 today =(?
Might as well make these a little longer. RPGs, "J" or not, really benefit from not being limited to ten minutes at a shot. Other games, maybe not so much, but here, yeah, longer might be better.
A clod is a chunk of dried dirt or soil or a dumb person.
I'm fine with 15-20 minutes.
i prefer 10 minute episodes every day or 15 minutes every other day.also you should cut out more random battles.
HCbaily you are the only jrpg nerd i know so why is it that when your asleep you dont wake up? i mean yeah i can sleep though a band but im not them and plz dont say game physics
