I love his videos and everything but his live performances always suck...
What about them in particular suck?
I mean, yes, the quality may not pertain to the original videos, but the majority of these songs? He does almost *ALL* of it.
And, memorizing, live, playing instruments, the pressure, and sometimes the overlapping voices? That's got to be some really difficult stuff.
I can't imagine playing a guitar/piano while screaming like that, memorizing lyrics that can tend to overlap, and things.
Considering how he's probably (just assuming, no offense, Toby, if otherwise) looking at a script when he records himself, it's hard to memorize them. Some of the parts are fast too, like... you get my point?
You're completely in the right if you don't enjoy his live performances as much as the originals, though. I respect that, I'm just saying, I guess.
No offense to your opinion.

I never said it was impossible, but I'm sure it took some practice to keep playing an instrument of choice (assuming you're referring to that as well), and singing all the parts of one of his literals or songs that have voices that, for the most part, overlap, then, go for it.
