@@pinkbooklessons have you ever suffered through a hurricane and had to administer resources while running a town or institution? How long did you think it took for Southern and New Orleans to recover from Katrina? It took years.
Do you know what is going on down there outside of a video of Ed Reed? Did you give the administration a chance to tell their side of the story which is what just, righteous, and intelligent people do, or does it fit with current self loathing narrative about Black people and Black women that you and others who cater to the bitter Black man cabal?

I’m teaching at a HBCU now. I won’t say which one but given it’s reputation, I was expecting something VERY different…something of a higher caliber. Now I’m almost on my way out because I had discussions and assignments designed to address the divide between Black men and women. I got labeled a misogynist and was accused of creating a hostile environment 🤦🏽‍♂️ So now the gloves come off. They threatened to fire me…threatening my livelihood…so there’s no love left for the institution (only my students). If things have to escalate to the point of lawyers getting involved, so be it.

I know the perfect person to fix a situation like this. The problem is that you go into places like this and you have staff that’s been there for 20 years and a lot of them are lazy and resistant to change. So you end up not getting the support you need, you get burned out, leave the institution and they get back to doing nothing.

I have many family members that attended BCU begining with my grandmother who was a student when miss Bethune was still running the school and she went on to be a principal for Volusia county school board during segregation and after . In the 70's I remember the pride our community had in BCU but now i can't say the same sadly...

They’re all broken. I’m from New Orleans. We have Xavier University which is right in the middle of a busy urban area riddled with crime - it has a decent campus but it’s in a very dangerous part of town. I used to dream of going to Dillard University when I was a kid; they had one of the most beautiful campuses I’d seen back in the 80’s. Now? Looks like ancient ruins. Delgado Community College which is situated in City Park - has a nicer campus and facilities than the two HBCU’s right in the city of New Orleans. Go up the highway to Southern University? Campus is TRASH! Let’s not talk about Grambling. A few years ago - they had and outbreak of MRSA because the athletic facilities were so old, dirty and nasty. In stark contrast; there’s Tulane University (Beautiful campus and facilities) and Loyola University (another beautiful campus with stellar facilities) all of these schools are within minutes of each other in New Orleans. I live in Virginia now; not far from Norfolk State University…it’s trash!!! Hampton University is about 45 minutes a way - it’s a tad bit better - but still lacking. We have to do better.

@Dee Smart The greeks are nothing more than a glorified social club. Boule included. They're not movers or shakers because they don't own or control anything. They're employees. Most are happy and content doing well enough to be house poor in the burbs next to actual wealthy white people.
And when Phillip and Sandy invite them over for a social gathering they get their feelings hurt when they realize it's levels to this. They're maxed out with 2 incomes trying to keep up on the house and the cars while Phil only spends 25% of his income to maintain his family's lifestyle. His wife doesn't work.
Its all a facade. Black people are always trying to take shortcuts as individuals. We look without seeing. We hear but don't listen. True wealth is silent and invisible.
All of my aunts and uncles crossed over from HBCUs except one who went to a PWI for chemical engineering.
Guess who retired early with 4 kids? The rest worked for 40 years as school teachers, counselors, nurses, accountants, or working for the alphabet boys. One of my aunts had 2 Masters degrees and still wasn't breaking 6 figures.
It's cap. First of all, HBCUs don't have any respectable STEM degree programs. It's mostly liberal arts, nursing, and education. Business disciplines outside of accounting are pretty much worthless too.
None of these degrees lead to a high demand career field with competitive salaries.
If a Black person wants to go to a HBCU for undergrad that's fine. Bachelors degrees are a dime a dozen nowadays with progressive credentialism squeezing the labor market.
But when it comes to advanced degrees and terminal degrees in technical fields, you're wasting your time and money going to a HBCU.

My father was a head football coach at an HBCU and what I’ve come to realize is that conditions at our universities is due to lack of adequate funding from the state level. Leadership is constantly denied adequate funding to better the conditions of the universities facilities. This happens at our institutions across the board. Not saying the promises to Coach Reed were not problematic just saying the reason these institutions don’t have what they need is because the funding and community support is not there. In order for us to do better WE have to start helping to fund our institutions. WE have to get our organizations involved in helping create ways to sustain. The reality is donations like $250k, $500k, $1m is not enough to push the needle or make a difference. But we continue to help keep PWI organizations & businesses thriving by supporting their endeavors. Our Endowments are not great enough to help sustain our institutions annually. We get what we pay for and if our money isn’t long enough to sustain a good quality staff, materials, and labor then we will continue to get what we get. Just like he doesn’t wanna work for free neither do the maintenance staff. What would be nice is if we saw the Devine nine and other black community organizations and churches come together to spearhead a cleanup or rebuild campaign for our institutions. Let’s use this as an opportunity to come together and be solution based.
