We are keeping a close eye on the Chilcotin land slide? Ya right. The water has been flowing over top for hours now. The "modelling" is as wrong as your close eye on the situation.
You are missing the point. The gravitational metric pressure has escalated, which can and will, collapse the dam. This has yet to happen. Their observations are completely sound.

I am a member of the Yunesit'in Government. I have done some dip netting at the Fraser Canyon in the past. The river flowed quickly with a lot of rapids and whirlwinds. I understand that the length and height of the river have doubled since Sunday, August 4, 2024. Faster running water typically leads to increased soil erosion, it has more lightening speed and tends to pick up more soil particles and whatever is in the way of the river. Leading to a faster erosion. How come the government did not attend to the landslide at the beginning of the slide and place engineers on the ground to access the damage and provide a way for the river to be slowly released?
There has been so much news and video clips covering the news surrounding the Nagwentled (sliding hill) and blocking Tsilhqox (Chilcotin river). The river was backed up all the way to the Brittany, which lies between 2 rivers. They are as follows: The Tsalhanqox (Chilko & Taseko river) the headwaters of the Fraser River. I have forgotten to include the Chilcotin names in my comments.
I'm missing the reason why it would cause problems. When the water overtops the landslide, won't it just flow down the existing river bed and behave normally again?
Reporting has been done by Google for years. Investigative reporting is now done by what some PR person from the Government tells them. Although we also know with Government agencies, they also lock down disaster areas for the prevention of lawsuits from people with cellphones videoing their mistakes, examples would be wildfires and the "Controlled Burn"
How is it that southern India provides multiple livestreams on their landslide situation, while BC barely produces current imagery on the most interesting geological event in North America today?

The Bird Nerd channel on YT has shown the trickle turn into a torrent as the sand erodes over the course of the last 3 hours. A guy with a backpack and phone cam is doing a better reporting job than news channels. Maybe it’s time for the mega-corporations to divest themselves from news outlet ownerships and congregating reporters in whatever politically-motivated niche interest spot some suit in Toronto or New York is keen on and let reporters get back in the field where they belong.
It was overtopping this morning, it's been flowing for hours, and you posted this one hour ago. Compelling case for why no one cares about legacy media anymore, too little, too late!

Yep, but it doesn’t say it is old. Maybe they will cover the latest o WW2 tomorrow :D Anyhoo, the real question was always how fast it would empty and how much mud?
Yeah, the water came part way over the top, but the initial breach did in fact start through, not over the slide. It was like a muddy angry spring, coming up out of the face of the dam. It eventually just cut through though.
Getting tired of watching faces with greenscreen, probably in their bathrooms. Thats why a majority of Canadians go to independant sources now. More footage of the area and less commentary would be great.
