I hope this is as insane as the originals. Elona was an inspiration for CoQ, and it still managed to outweird it (pickpocketing gods, finding turds that weight 16 tons that become doomsday weapons when thrown, the infamous tourist filter that is the infinite pregnancy cycle.)

Leaving a comment to express my appreciation for your content even if most times I only watch ~30 seconds of it to see if I'm at all interested in the game or not.
Wow I never thought I would see this series again. For me ELONA will always stand out as one of those defining rpgs that no one has ever heard of. Oh the days of training my defense against a slime until it inadvertantly became an unstoppable killing machine because it had also been leveling up the whole time. Or waiting to see another adventurer had died in a dungeon then racing to find the dungeon and the body inside to loot all of their gear. They also had ELONA Shooter which is what originally lead me to the game. Thanks for finding this game, I'm super excited to check it out!

Why is it every single time Splat cautions against the graphics of a game, I've just clicked the thumbnail thinking "Oooh I like the graphics!". I guess I like an artform to have varieties of style instead of slavish adherence to photorealism.
Elin is the most beautiful roguelike I've ever seen. I think Splat just assumes pixel art is always going to be a turnoff for a certain number of people, but I agree he sold the visuals short big time
@@ubertuna1 Oh, yeah, I see how what I said could come across that I think Splat hated the artstyle, but I get completely that it was a "just stay with me here" warning from him. Just funny to me that an indie game channel has to warn against aaa sensibilities.
Elona was a headtrip. Like Nethack, Ultima Online, and an early era JRPG had a baby and that baby had a huge list of insane RNG things that would just happen and totally change everything - yes, it did have some big multiplayer mechanics. You could go into other people's houses and the game rated how cool your house was against theirs. You may have to run Elona on Compatibility Mode but it still works, or at least it did for me. Elin has a similar ranking system but I don't know if you can visit other people's land yet. There was Elona, Elona Shooter, Elona+, and now Elin, all in the same world, all illustrate a really strong design philosophy of creating wild moments. Elin in the base difficulty is super forgiving. The higher difficulties allow for loss on death or permadeath. Right now on base difficulty you lose nothing for the first 90 game days, then after that you lose some skill advancement progress. Similar to Rimworld your skills have little flame icons that show how talented you are and how fast you can raise them if you use them, determined by your choices at character creation (race, class). I think your NPC minions have similar things determined by their race, job, and hobby, so you'll see them gaining skill levels in the log as they do things. It seems like in the late game you can get a whole army to run your farm, ranch, manufacturing facilities, retail shop, and other types of things, so you can bankroll fulltime adventuring. And if you advance your land you get raided by bigger monsters so there is actually a mechanic to de-advance your land to lower the threat level. Once it's out of EA there is an aim to have tons of mods and wikis and stuff out there so Elin might have a really wild scene
This looks SOOO good! I'll be buying this week. Another title I'll have purchased from watching Splats channel... Sure it's around 13 titles now?! Including Alolath last night.. keep it up 👊🏾
To anyone that thinks this looks interesting. The previous game Elona is a bit difficult to deal with, but the modded version Elona+ is still going strong and is a good game.
