    I’m in southeast ky
I planted one acre of brassica mix, and half acre fall forage mix, oats, peas, wheat, and rye on opposite sides of plot
On sept 14th, yes 10 days after our season came in. I Like to plant late august to Labor Day weekend. Had to plant late due to hay harvest this year. And the hurricane coming through dumping a week of rain, on us. Over the Labor Day timeframe. But that puts all fall forage being young throughout our bow season,
It also put me exactly 60 days from open rifle day, 45 days from our usually first average frost date, ph was 7.5 on soil test so we’ll see how it does. Hitting the brassica side with 75 lbs of liquid 46-0-0 In the 4th week of growing stage. It will give me another. 3/4 weeks of growing before we will def have frost. I don’t usually rifle hunt at all. I stay out that whole timeframe, and keep pressure down. Makes for great late season hunts. I don’t ever hunt the plots without perfect wind. If I hunt rifle it’s about 600-800 yards away from my plots with a bow in the timber areas.

I also keep hearing of guys planting food plots in July. I cant figure that out. We have some very hot weather and it is always dry in September. I dont plant until Labor Day. Also, the 60 day maturity means that the plants are mature and not as palatable as when young. Brassicas get damaged by flea beetles in hot weather. Grains and brassicas grow better in september, when nights are starting to get cool. Good points in this video

Could be a lot of stuff it’s definitely from to much water in that case which probably wiped out the nitrogen or potassium in the soil. Could also be a zinc deficiency. Usually once they turn yellow there’s no turning back. You can try adding some triple 19 to them when leaves are dry see if fish helps

What is your recommendation to plant for a late season plot. I live in Upstate NY and I’m looking to keep deer coming in November/December when the other food sources such as corn fields start to lose there attraction. With that being said can you throw multiple different seeds down to cover the earlier months as well as late season. Say clover for archery season and then something else that’ll keep them coming during gun season.

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
