- Watch Roll Manila’s pilot episode presents our personal take on three modern grail Seiko diver’s - the Baselworld 2017 SLA017, the 2018 GPHG winner SLA025, and the Baselworld 2019 SLA033.
We will be sharing why we love them and why we think they are worthy successors of their vintage counterparts.
Really loved that video as I am a huge Seiko fan.
Btw the SLA033 is known as the "Captain Willard" here in Europe, referencing the figure played by Martin Sheene in the movie "Apocalypse Now"
The original 6105-8110 was not issued to the soldiers, but they bought it themselves because it was better suited to the damp and moist weather in Vietnam, than the issued field watches they had at the time.
Writing this as I wear my Seiko SPB077 (SBDC061) on a Phoenix Nato. One of my favourite Seiko watches.

I got deceived by the 55th anniversary 200m HiBeat SLA037 Sla037j1, the blue 😍. I have a good deal for a brand new from boutique, for around USD 4,200, that I can even put on 12 months interest free installments. It’s also my first time to own a HiBeat. However, I am still thinking 🤔 about the SLA017 200 reissue, as it might be the closest to the original 62MAS, but here I will have to hunt from secondary market and pay at once. Which one should I pick ?! NB. I am selling my 300m SLA019 all green 1968, but will keep the 🐬 SLA045 300m as it’s very limited to 300 pieces only. I love the anniversary edition, but SLA025 HiBeat 300m remains my grail especially with the big Collectors box.

May I please ask you if the SLA025 300M high beat, is considered as an anniversary piece ? I’ve seen some coming with a big box 📦 and a Seiko knife 🔪. Is this the full set ? Or people collect the knife and the box separately.

Other than the 55th anniversary of 62MAS was the 50th anniversary as good as the Sla037j1 ?! Seems that sexy collectors box was only for the 55th anniversary. As a collector of 50th anniversaries of different brands, I wished that box was on the 50th not 55th 😞.
