    I have the 6105 which was passed down to me from my father and I picked up the same SLA033 to sit side by side in my collection. I’m so stoked to have both of these. They are expensive but as Rolex etc are becoming ridiculous Seiko are becoming ultra cool

    I own an original 6105 captain Willard from 1975. The bezel is not friction fit but had the infamous click ball and spring mechanism that would either rust over time, or get gummed up with dirt and grime, and not work making it seem like a friction fitted bezel. The only purpose of the locking crown with arrow was to keep the crown from accidentally changing date setting if the wearer should turn the crown counterclockwise before locking the crown. Turning the crown clockwise would not affect date, thus the direction of arrow. The five (or six) larger grooves on crown would fit into a post on the case which would “lock” crown and prevent turning movement. This was used before threaded crowns.

      the bezel rim is also thicker ...and the size is 45mm... The SLA051 is better. The Prospex Willard X variants have the bezel crystal much closer to the original.

I love my SLA023 and I will definitely pick up another one someday because when you have one in your hand you can feel the difference between these and an sbdc or other prospex. They are definitely worth the money in my view. Im not that big on the willard style case but it’s still an awesome watch and I love the 8L35. It’s a great movement. Yes, the arrow on the 6105 went counter clockwise. It has a pin on the case that sticks into the grooves on the crown to keep it from turning when closed. But I’m actuality it doesn’t matter which way you turn it, as long as the pin finds the groove

      same with any vintage rolex tho and the 62mas, who the weren’t particularly expensive at the time. I think with inflation and exchange the mas and 6105 were like paying $700.

    • @sobeit712
      @sobeit712 3 года назад

      @@sobeit712 woh relax. Jesus. I'm saying rolex in the 50s and 60s weren't nearly expensive or as valued as they are now, just like the Willard. but ok lets do this then. You're trying to tell me that because a _character_ in a move is a "common man" that the watch should for some reason be in expensive as well? The stainless steel Submariner with a date had a price of $385, or $2,080 with inflation." ... same goes for the 6105 Willard, adjusted for inflation, around 700$. this is just how watch pricing has gone up, with or without a movie. the 62mas, even more so, no movie.

    Can we sort out our terms. I don’t think you can homage your own work like Steven Spielberg doesn’t homage his own films. I like ‘reissue’ or modern reinterpretation. And Chinese clones are not homage either bc they are not done as a nod our of respect, rather a cash grab, or opportunism. To me homages borrow design elements but in the watch world the term is sort of meaningless, like the way people use ‘literally’ these days, it doesn’t really mean anything.

      I own Seiko turtles, samurais, tunas and a monster and love the look of the Willard re-issues, but at 3.5% of the cost for this limited version or 9% cost of the latest ‘budget’ Willard, I’m more than happy with the homage.
      I have Seiko’s with QC issues that the SD nails.
      I don’t hate Seiko, I’m a fan, but I’m not paying their ransom for the Willards when this SD has the same look, feel, specs and wearing experience but with better QC.
