- This video is about whether you should solo travel in Nigeria. Suppose you are a first-time solo traveler to Nigeria. You have never been to Nigeria, don't speak any local Nigerian language or Nigerian Pidgin English, you haven't traveled to any African country before, and you don't know anyone. No, no, it would be best if you didn't travel throughout Nigeria without a guide.

Nigeria is a place you enjoy when you know someone. period! Even for Nigerians in the diaspora, if not for cousins and family members they wouldn't enjoy anything. He should have at least ONE Nigerian friend to host him
Yes @ enjoy when you know someone. Bc then you experience the real Nigeria!
“ARE YOU ASKING ME FOR A BRIBE?”
I can’t wait to shout that at the airport 😂😂
LOL Easiest way to end a conversation
I cannot wait either!! Am going to 9ja this December and I'm using it!
Añuli have fun enjoy and be safe!
Lol...

I love Nigeria and I am very security minded as I move around! Nigeria isn't for play play lol *UPDATE VIDEO* ruclips.net/video/qpyyXp6je6E/видео.html
Hmmmm, this is a handful
1. You need a live discussion for this.
2. I agree with the three travel destination you picked for a first trip.
3. There is an African American who organises trips (Uhuru) within Nigeria.
4. Travel by only train and air.
Iveoma you need to do a video on arrival protocol's.
Lol there is a Nigerian YT Sassy Funke who does a great job with travel protocols. So many videos, ruclips.net/video/AB1O6NVrkRQ/видео.html

Enugu is also safe for tourist and foreigners and a good city to start with for someone who wants do visit an eastern city. But yes you made valid points...I laughed so hard when you made that facial expression of him going to Kaduna😂😂😂
How can I send you an email?
I would recommend that he stays in Abuja or Lagos only for the 3 weeks. I think traveling to other states would be overwhelming and stressful. Also puts his safety at risk even more because it's too much moving around alone. Theres a sort of 'organized-chaos' in Nigeria that I love but it may not be comfortable for others. Also, he should start his malaria meds 7 days before travel and up to 30 days after he gets back to his country. I like doxycycline and in Nigeria it is cheap, if he runs out-- I always do that.
Great Advice!!! I live in Nigeria, I dont think i have travelled to more than 5 states... 11 States will be too much for the period and the stress from travelling will be crazy......As for Security Issues..I dont take chances, if I am travelling somewhere I am not sure... I make sure I write out the names and numbers/contacts I need incase of emergency on two papers one rolled up in my socks and one in my hotel room...just incase I loose my phone....The best form of defense in Nigeria is to run away to avoid unnecessary problems...Lagos, Abuja and Calabar will be easy to manage, he will have more than enough activities to keep him busy..
Yess @ stress from traveling will be crazy. I like the name/contact number advice too!
i'm glad you kept it real in this video. i think there are many black americans who have this fantastical idea about africa.
@@antebellumblackamerican7408 We have a RIGHT to both places. I travel solo to Nigeria when I go.
@@kofoblue3172 Well said.
After a long time away, I visited Nigeria in 2015 and solo travelled regardless of Boko Haram. Did Lagos, Abuja, Bauchi, Yankari game reserve, Jos, Abia, and wanted to hit Cameroon. A combination of road and flight journies. Definitely one my best trips ever! Be aware - yes but you’d love it!
“A long time away” lol This video was for an American, no ties, friends, or experience in Naija. They did visit Calabar, Abuja, and Lagos bouncing between cities by plane and love it though.
And your solo trip sounds amazing!!!
I traveled solo for my first three trips to Nigeria. However, his plans are ridiculous. I love Benin City. Abuja and Lagos weren't for me, especially Lagos. However, I agree with most of what you advice however. I do speak and understand Pidgin however. I've established vetted and trustworthy Nigerian relationships over my trips there. Also, having a Nigeria last name from a former marriage has helped me greatly even though my ex never took me there.
He needs to give us an update after!!!
I'm a African American and I've been to Africa at least 10 times and to Nigeria 🇳🇬 about 4 times. Since this is his first trip going to Africa I wouldn't recommend Nigeria. Don't get me wrong I love Nigeria but considering this is his first time there and not knowing anyone there... I just can't recommend Nigeria to him with a clear conscience.
Which country would you recommend
@@lehlogonolopapo3119 Good question. My number 1 African country i will recommend is Tanzania 🇹🇿. I felt completely safe even at night. #2 will be Kenya 🇰🇪
Great response! Though I have travelled to Ghana alone three times, I would not try that with Nigeria! I’m gonna keep my brave, independent behind right in NY and wait until my Nigerian husband invites me and take full advantage of his patriarchal benefits! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣😂🤣
I’m scared even here where we are in japan sometimes. A very safe country but nowhere is completely safe for especially a woman . I almost got raped once in a bar . I went to the restroom and didn’t notice I was being followed. The moment I got into the toilet stall the guy pushed me in from behind . He tried to rape me but I was luckily wearing pants . He ripped it but fled because of other women entering the restroom. Thank God i wasn’t wearing a skirt that night. He was Moroccan is all I found out . When I went to report the incident all the bar staff said was “ why did you let him go with you to the restroom “ As I said i didn’t know he was following me . I got so depressed.
Chidi Plays really sorry about that. Hope he gets his reward.
Facts!
You tackled that man's letter like a professional. You pretty much covered advisement for lone traveler's that's for sure.
😂 It was a thick email LOL I had to break it down.
Iveoma is doing an exceptional job keep it up ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
Me as a Nigerian, I am not going to the north
My man says the same . I thought Abuja looks good he said no . Everywhere in the north is risky he says .
Haba so you mean to tell me everywhere is the south east is safe? Just so that you know back in 1984-88 when I used to travel from Gongola to Lagos via Onisha to play tennis tournaments, I always sleep at mile 12 car park at night because of horrible robberies & killing. But that doesn’t mean everywhere in south east is bad.
I am from the south. Edo state. However, when it comes to safety, Enugu is the the safest state in Nigeria you can check it out online. Crossriver, Lagos are also top of the list. Abuja is Ok. No place is totally safe, however, the North is no place for a person traveling to Nigeria for the first time including the south. His accent, the way he dresses,he would attract the wrong people. I was born in the North, ran for our lives in the middle of the night back to the south , in the late 90s.Now you see why I won't want to go for a visit or live there.
@@Brenda90210 Abuja is very safe and its not rowdy like Lagos.
@@gigibigh5057 thanks for the advice. I haven’t been to Nigeria yet , but my man is very much serious about us relocating there . We are currently in japan and almost everything annoys him lol . Culture way of thinking etc . Although he can speak the language he is still a true Nigerian at heart . I hope I will be ok because I’m not a Nigerian and I would have to adjust again after adjusting to japan . I don’t know , I will do my best for my family to be happy . It’s fun to be in a different country than your own , but sometimes it gets overwhelming.
Watching this a second after watching Eddie's interview.
He’s too optimistic 😂. My heart was pounding reading his questions. I agree just Abuja, Lagos, and Calabar. Even just Abuja and Lagos. Many other states are not as used to foreigners so you stand out way too much. He needs to beg a friend to come with him. I don’t feel comfortable with him going alone on his first visit with no family. Also you have to account for the unpredictable in Nigeria. 3 weeks is barely enough time for three places talk less of 11 states. Great video!
Omo, you said it @ heart was pounding. I read his email and got so scared for him lol
Calabar is cool.
Cooler than even Lagos
If you reading this, traveling by road is safe during Christmas. Why? Everyone is traveling same time so traffic is tensed! However, for comfort and care support, train and flying will be a good choice.
As for cities to visit, Abuja, Lagos, Calabar, Ibadan, Enugu, Owerri..
To explore Abuja, check out BigWillz channel.. Goodluck and Nigeria welcomes you🙌🇳🇬👍😊
You are going to approach random ppl in the markets **by yourself** and ask them questions?!?! 🤦🏾♀️ Huh.... stay home baby.....
Bruh...lol

🤣
Great video and ample advice. Just to add that it's probably 5% of the population in the cities that could make your life hell and all Iveoma is saying is that being careless might just get you into their hands. Otherwise, majority of Nigerians are actually nice people. Now, if you're travelling from the States, do you know any Nigerians out there? There are many Nigerians from out there that can refer you to friends and family who can help make stay pleasant and a lot safer. Great advice to limit your travelling as well. In addition to needing time to fully absorb the culture in different regions, Nigeria is not exactly a small country - it's bigger than Germany, UK and Netherlands combined.
Yes @ being careless can you in the wrong hands. I should have stressed most Nigerians aren’t this way at all.
Eight years in Nigeria and I never lost my American accent fully lol. Ill be visiting Nigeria for a month in a few months for a wedding and I am already stressed between wedding prep and the covid travel saga. In terms of this email I often tell my other African American friends that Nigeria is a nice place to visit BUT you really benefit from knowing trustworthy in Nigeria before you visit I have to cosign everything you said
8 YEARS what! I need to soften this accent now now 😂 Nice @ wedding visit, it’s good you are telling your friends the truth. Nigeria really is a nice place to visit.
Lol you were cracking me up in this video. I lost it when you said you'll be in the bush. Lol thank you for guiding this young man because omo.
You did such a good job giving him advice. I love how outgoing and brave Americans can be but I do feel sometimes it can be abit fantastical. I'll advice he limits his travel to just one city even. Abuja is very comfortable and organized. He could start with that first, although it does get really hot there. When he has networked and gotten some contacts, he can then tackle on the likes of Lagos and Calabar.
😂 @ bush. For real ooo! Yeah I had to break down this email because he is really coming to Nigeria and I want him to have a great time.
I do think it’s good advice to limit to 1 city but I think he really wants to see a couple of places. I cut it down from 11 places lol. But 1 city would be better to grow a contact list.
No, you told it like it is...people can't be Naive especially on their first trip without knowing someone. In order to have a good time you must be safe and there are no exceptions. Your advice was perfect!!! Great video!😊
Thank you for doing this video. This traveler is making me nervous. Someone had to tell him.
Omgeeeee 😳 Lol 🤣 Sloooww doowwwnn and chill out! LOL 😂 before you don’t make it back home lol... I think you might have totally romanticized what it’s going to be like smh 🤦🏾♀️ God keep him safe 😂💕🙏🏾 Tips you have heard but need to hear again: 🗣 Do not be **talking** (to everyone)! Be vigilant and try not to bring unnecessary attention to yourself! Make many connections and set things up with people BEFORE you get there! Have another phone 📱 and copies of all important documents with important numbers and information at your hotel... just have extra and backup of everything **especially money or a way to access your money** at a secure location where you are staying... Pray & Follow alllll of Iveoma’s advice! Ew chile 🥺😩🙄
All your advice is on point!
@Bloom With Blossom, Chichi is so naive and should not make this trip to Nigeria right now. If he really wants to visit, he should do Abuja or Lagos and he can easily catch flights serving these 2 cities. He shall NOT dare take any kind of bus no matter how luxurious to any city within Nigeria. I don't think he has heard about highway robbery that occurs during such bus trips. I don warn am o!
Chigo Dike Lol 😂 I totally agree... so naive and not ready for Nigeria... I was shocked and laughing hysterically while watching this video
Bloom, while Iveoma was telling us about Chichi' s plans to visit Kaduna, I was literally yelling at my phone, hell no! Then when she got to the part about his plan to have conversations with random people, I was like WTF? He is asking for trouble if he makes this trip this December!

You are not too hash my dear; truth is bitter but sometimes we have to say it like it is. You have to be sharp, not just smart, really sharp, quick wit to be in Nigeria, regardless of the area. My people don’t play. They can smell anything from afar especially money😂

TOO TRUE! .Naija no be joke! Once they hear that accent, it is all over! Finally a youtuber who is saying the truth. Imagine people thinking Nigeria is safer than the US/UK! My last visit armed robbers attempted to derail the luxurious bus I was travelling in.. Thank God the driver did not panic and was very experienced and got us out of there!
Loooool, make him shine him eye well well o 😂😂
This has got to be the most accurate review of Nigeria
As someone who grew up in Benin city, you're wrong and right.
There are tons of expatriates and you absolutely do not need to speak the language at all,its a hip, young city.
That said, you absolutely need to be streetwise there,Benin city in my opinion is the the "grimiest" city in Nigeria.
Thank you for correcting me.
@@IveomaMedia Benin city has a pretty interesting history,it was the capital of the Bini empire for centuries and legend says the son of the first king,Oduduwa left and travelled West and became the father of the Youruba kingdom.
It has a rich history of artwork and sculptures, the earthworks built around the city(now in shambles)were considered some of the largest in history, the Oba(kings)palace sit right in the center of the city.
Besides Lagos and perhaps Onitsha/Enugu,I believe it's the most populated city in Southern Nigeria and was the capital of the old Bendel state.
In parts of the city, you can easily find households with at least one member living abroad in the US or Europe or expatriates.
Advise, Go.!!! . Fly to Abuja first because arriving in Lagos is a mess. Make friends before you get there and take things slow. Hopping from state to state is difficult because most roads are terrible and flying is expensive. For someone who went to 8 states in 6 weeks, it's exhausting and you may not get time to really appreciate a place. It's a full-time job to plan your travels and not get frustrated by how difficult it is to move between states. Pick states with a working airport, have plans of what you want to do and start making friends there. I have travelled around Ghana, Rwanda, Singapore, Malaysia and Bali and Nigeria was by far the hardest for unnecessary reasons like to book a local flight online, you can't use an international card. So you either go through the terrible process of getting a Nigerian account( this could take weeks)or find a friend to buy your ticket or get into an uber and go to a shopping mall to buy your ticket(The traffic :( ). Something that should the 5 minutes becomes a days activity. You need Patience than and more to that because you will be tested !!!
I am traveling to Nigeria next month. I will be there for 3 weeks in lekki... this will be my first trip solo, however I do know someone I trust very much so I won't be alone during my stay! Any recommendations? I have all documents and thinking of applying for an international drivers license 🤔.... I dont plan on meeting ppl there but I do plan on enjoying myself with my partner! I am traveling to Nigeria for a mental break and visiting a really really really good trusted friend.
Iveoma..thanks for your honesty and sincerity as you show the true picture of Nigeria..No sugar coating..i love your blog bcus you call it like it is .I tell people Nigeria is ruled by madmen making life very hard for their citizens while they live in opulence .The police cannot be trusted....the shortcomings re enormous. Keep up the good job..i don't want to get political bout Nigeria..it gives me a headache. I live the states
I think the first step to travelling to Nigeria or any african country as a whole, is to first of all make friends with Nigerians in your present location , and when I say Nigerians,I mean patriotic Nigerians.. ask them questions about where they are from..and how you can be safe throughout your stay in Nigeria...they might even introduce a trust worthy person to take you around all through your stay in the country because they've got family and friends back home... secondly, Benin City is too rough and not safe for a first timer because as soon as they know you are new in the country, they might want to exploit you...calabar ,lagos ,abuja are the best places to be...most especially calabar.
Most of what you said is true but your opinion on Benin city isn't true. All he has to do is ask his hotel to give him a guide if he's unable to view the city as a lone traveller.
I agreed with the lady Bassey, try to know someone from Nigeria at your current location and ask them to introduce you to a trustworthy family member to take you around. In that case you will have more fun and enjoy your stay at peace, the only thing you will do is to add the person up keep to your budget and the person job is to protect you and do most of the talking. My husband is a Nigerian born and school up to university in Nigeria but still whenever he travel back home two of his best friends will be with him until he is done is business and ready to come back. And make sure you introduce your Nigeria friend at ur current location to your family and let them know the information of the person in Nigeria that is taking you around.
Best travel vid I've seen thus far on Nigeria, for those us us who have never been. Thank You!
Let him get in touch with some good Nigerian diasporans that are coming home for Xmas.Look for where Nigerians in his city are having monthly meetings.Easy
You are correct, safety is the first priority!
Thank you for this great advise!!!!😍😍😍😍😍
3 weeks ? He needs to go to Abuja and Lagos. That's it!! I would rather take a plane also. The roads will drive you crazy, pothole almost threw my back out. I went from Lagos to Ororuwo never again LOL. I use to be like him, trying to get in everything . Didn't work!! I was dead tired from travelling that first time. I was able to contact youtuber Dynast Amir from Search for Uhuru and he gave me reliable resources. I spoke to my tour guide frequently for 6 months prior to coming. So it was like having a friend there and not just a tour guide. I had a awesome time!! I've traveled there 4 times, Nigeria is my favorite place.
Well done this a great video. All the advice were on point, God bless you for sharing. I am a Nigerian from Edo state, I totally understand what you said about Benin city. For a first timer it is unsafe for the guy to go wondering all by himself. Keep the good work sister. God bless you.
Going all over country is definitely not safe to do. Thanks for being real with him. It's a capital NO!!!!
Hi ivioma , I’m from South West but, I must tell the fact that Benin people are very exceptional, amazing, truthful people and it’s a safe place to enjoy his trip too.. i can only attest to this because i work in Neighboring state Delta and Benin also harbors more international travelers during this festive season. Nonetheless, Calabar to Benin its a long distance except he might want to travel through d Air which is advisable bcs, d road would be too much busier. In otherwords, if he still consider coming to benin we have a transport service that can offer him a good travel experience at a moderate rate. Thanks. We wish him a safe trip!!!
Why would he think to attempt this trip by himself? I recently found out I have a large percentage of Nigerian lineage and want to visit however I also know people and have friends that travel to the country all the time and I will feel safe with them moving around the country. He sounds young and fearless but not wise AT ALL. I wouldn't attempt this in ANY COUNTRY!!! I visited Ghana which was my first trip to Africa and I went with a good friend (who had traveled to Ghana before) and her friend who had friends in country. The people are kind I'm sure but they can take full advantage of you or even physically hurt you! Be careful young man and use this network to enjoy your trip.
Nice @ large percentage of Nigerian lineage!! Good @ travel with friends.
I really love your honesty in your your videos. It's better to warn people than for them to come.e and get awful experiences and send the bad news outside a d thereby making the whole country look like hell.
I'm from Ghana and I do really want our sister country to be safe.
Love
This video has me shook....lol. I'm still trying to get to Nigeria though!
Great video Iveoma. Shine ya eye well well...because a hungry man is an angry man. (And the scammer factor the world over is going to see an uptick because COVID destroyed a lot of people’s finances).
As always your videos are right on time unfortunately for me I decided to cancel my trip to Nigeria this Christmas. Covid has really done a number on the world. My friends advised me not to go this year because of the hardships being faced in the country, and they aren’t going back anymore. I also took a DNA test and I’m 40% Nigerian. I thought it was a video about women not traveling alone. Very interesting video
Oh no! Sorry to hear that! Yes @ COVID has done a number to the world. Next year when you come, you are going to have so much fun!
It's Iveoma hopefully we get to meet when I do finally make the trip
I really wish Nigeria would invest more in tourism! The desire is there but even as a first gen I could never try this itinerary. Only places I would go alone and stay in hotels is Abuja and Lagos. I get tired of hearing about the security issues but my cousin in Owerri said it simply “we have security issues and they won’t change for you”.
Simple but powerful sentence @ we have security issues and they won’t change for you!
Owerri, which is one of the cities in the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, is actually no more dangerous than any other city in the country.
The security issues there has to do with occasional clashes between the government and the secessionist group IPOB.
I don’t see how you would be in any serious threat or danger tho. Abuja is even more unsafe than Owerri, statistically speaking.
i see what you're saying about going from place to place. but, it can be a nice way to go and get a sense of the country. i traveled to guatemala by myself (i'm a woman). i was there about 10 days and was able to easily get around to their almost every major attraction including lake atitlan and tikal and antigua. they are well set up to accommodate tourists - tourist buses to sites. small travel vans in antigua, where i made my base for a few days. was great. if he had more than 3 weeks, he should go and do all of that traveling.
orange moon glows Nigeria is not a tourist country. That’s the issue. It’s too risky
I need some advice... I made a long distance friend from Lagos Nigeria and I want to visit him sometime this year. I need to know if it’s ok to be traveling alone to Nigeria . I’ll be traveling from the US by plane. I feel like he’s a trustworthy person I’m just more nervous about traveling alone.
Omg I'm experiencing the same situation! I'm communicating with a guy from Ibadan and I would love to visit Nigeria but I want to know if its okay to go solo. If I ever do it probably won't be a long trip
Same
People think it's racist when someone says back packing through African countries is much more difficult and unsafe than say South east Asia, and then I see a video like this or a post of people who've done it also warning. I am happy people are being transparent at least.
I would recommend to stay in 3 cities or less max 1 week in each.
He needs to chill also not safe...
He needs to really chill.....
You re really doing a great job! ..
Chia great advise for everyone. Thanks for your honesty. Abdul from Florida
Abuja, Calabar and Lagos connected by air all good 👍 and should be enough for the first time. He can always expand to Benin and other cities once he has gotten a network. Meantime, I Iveoma, why not set up a travel agency for choice Nigerian cities for this market segment 🤔
Exactly @ Abuja, Calabar, and Lagos! It’s enough. Tbh, I never thought about a travel agency for Nigeria.

Please send this guy a very strong message , he will thank you later, in the future. If he even try 20% of what he is suggesting, unfortunately he won’t live to tell the tale , his best bet , his to come and visit the safe part of Lagos like I do , eat good foods , enjoy the bars on the island , enjoy the safe area of Lagos , get on thar flight and head back home .
I feel like this video was a strong message LOL Yeah I was a bit scared about his plan.

I dont see the need to travel to so many states on one trip. The aim of travel for vacation is to chill , explore and sample the cuisine( hey I love to eat) of each area. He must have verified contacts and reliable friends to guide him. Naija no be for JJC. You will be eaten alive. Visit Lagos, Calabar and maybe Enugu or Owerri( good time city). Next trip maybe visit Abuja and Jos.
I’m thinking of taking a solo trip to Lagos. But I have to admit fear keeps me from booking that flight. I have a couple of friends there. I’m concerned about safety and being taken advantage of. Any suggestions for traveling to Lagos?
I understand @ fear. Although this video probably made that fear worse lol eek
I think Lagos is an easier city to navigate plus you have friends who are going to take care of you. You will have a great time. Just stay at a nice hotel or Airbnb and use Uber/Bolt and move around.
This is so helpful.

Poor fella...he wants to genuinely explore the country. He needs to invest time in making friends first to establish trust and then kick on from there. Sadly Nigeria isnt exactly there yet

He has to stay in cities not villages
It's better if he's staying 3-4 months
Yeah I agree
Iveoma I think he/she can absolutely go to Benin city but just follow proper protocols laid out by his hotel. It'll be better if he/she knows someone who'll connect him/her to help go around. Benin city is a cosmopolitan place with every ethnic group present. Pls get to know the ancient African city/state.
I definitely can’t wait to go to Benin when my best friend is on ground to show me her city.

That’s good @ meet you at the airport and stay close by the airport! Are you staying with your friend or in a hotel?
Is hotel safe for me it would be my first time going but not this yr cause of cov- i wanna be prepared early and learn all i need to know first
Lol of course a hotel is safe for you or any foreigner in Lagos. Go on hotel.com, hotels.ng or bookings.com and find one with good reviews. Or get an Airbnb .
Great video with relevant information. Nigeria is lovely but it is not easy to live there or cope if you are unaware how to conduct yourself. Just like any other country, you must have to observe first before you blend in. Iveoma, you are not harsh. You are speaking the truth via experience and experience is the best teacher, so I only hope the young man heeds to your warnings. I haven't been back since I left Nigeria in 2004 and when I go back, I am not going to be doing a lot talking or traveling everywhere like a novice. Keep sharing your content. Stay Informed Guys! Peace, One love, Power, Justice, Balance, Order, and Resilience.

Yes, you have to be aware of how to live or how to conduct yourself.
Iveoma , Na wao, dem don baptize u with 'anything for the boys' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 no be small oo. Naija no dey carry last.
😂🤣😂
Anything for your sister? Oga, we greet you well. My wife don born pikin o! 😂😂. Well done sir! These are some cues that may be used to ask for 'tip'. I remember flying out of PH back to the states and the remaining Naira I had, I gave away to the airport staff, from the guy checking my passport to the ladies at the screen machines.
Ohhh the Black parenting in this 😂😂 “ *I’m not coming down on you. Dot dot dot but yours is the worst safety wise.* “ 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m glad he made it, y’all connected and I saw this after the interview. 🥰
Our Guide to NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!!
😂 You got it!
My partner is white and I'm mixed-race black. I'm wondering what it might be like if we go to Nigeria together. I'm worried about how I'll be treated differently because I'm with him. In my experience in other black or brown countries is that traveling with white people makes me safer in some aspects, but also keeps me separated from locals in a way I'm not when I travel with no white people.
I don’t think there would be any difference between how you and your fiancé will be treated. You aren’t local so you won’t be treated or priced as a local. People will be friendly and hospitable.
I don’t understand how traveling with White people makes you safer if you stand out far more? Safety comes from blending into a population lol
@@IveomaMedia I definitely felt exactly that in Cuba, but in Morocco it was made explicitly clear that my white travel companions, men and women, were keeping me safe. However that was more because I was occasionally out after dark and/or wearing western clothes (although completely covered wrist to ankle), things white women were allowed to do. When I wasn't with them, as I travelled a few days alone, I was harassed and threatened by men for being out alone even in the day time. Also in Peru I was denied entry into places until the white people I was travelling with said I was with them and in Fiji I wasn't allowed in a clothing shop until I showed my American passport because indigenous people, who look a lot like me, weren't allowed. And in Queensland Australia I was usually safer with white people as aboriginal women are beaten, abducted and raped very often, so if I wasn't with white people I was typically safer when I made it clear I was American and not indigenous. In fact I was asked constantly if I was aboriginal and several people kind of congratulated me on being black American instead? It was weird. That said, all of this travel was over a decade ago and I've been living in London for last 14 years, so typically travel around Europe, but I've really been to Cuba and Tokyo in that time. My ignorance about travelling in Africa has been holding back for too long, as well as some complicated feelings too. Anyway, thank you for what you do! I appreciate the information and inspiration you offer!
He definitely should practice speaking with an accent so that he's doesn't sound obviously American. And if asked he should say he's from Liberia bit not America.
I do it all the time, I'm really great at picking up accents. So good at it you'll think I'm one of you.🤣 just gotta put my game face on once I step off the plane
I Am white Italian and i had travel alone from lagos to Benin city with God is good bus and i have to tell that they was kind i was safe and they even drop me at airport on the way back ....i think i was lucky bcs is true Benin city alone is not Easy i was alone for 3 days there and i was just stay in hotel alone and people was taken picture of me bcs im white without my consent
Okay. Yes, public transit is a good way to travel by road. I have heard good things about God is good bus. Good to know someone can navigate Benin by themselves.
My man ( Igbo ) is upset if countries with high levels of Corona travel to Nigeria for holiday . Because that’s how the virus is going to spread . I’m just sick of all this
You have to do the test before going and it has to be NEGATIVE
@@SuzzieAnimatedStoriesVile I know . We are going to South Africa from Japan end of January. On coming back from SA , because there is so much Corona we need to have the negative test result certificate when returning to Japan , but after arrival we must self quarantine for 2 weeks eventhough the test we came back with has negative results and after 2 weeks test again . Only if the second test results are again negative are we allowed back into society , work , school , shopping etc ... only 1 negative test is not always enough. Because infectious symptoms can show later on . Or might get infected while traveling...
Benin City is more safe than Lagos, in relation to visiting many states within a short period is not a wise idea, however, if you know people that's ok.
On point.
Although I prefer to think "GOAT🐐 rolling around the place" I must agree that too many cutlasses await anyone who is a possible mumu. Sadly if Diasporans could visit freely & safely it would generate so much business & God's blessings for "impoverished ppl" in the world's most religious country. DESPARATION & BAD CHARACTER BLOCKS FUTURE BLESSINGS & OPPORTUNITIES & BREEDS WAHALA O.
The first visit is an introduction & an opportunity to make connections & collect info on where to branch out during future visits. I've arrived alone in Africa at 3am & the police Boss interrogated me, then ensured NO bribes, kidnap, NO Wahala. He told me to drop his name & when I did airport security, taxi driver, everybody started shaking like leaf & treated me egg. The other people arrived as a group but had their coveted property confiscated. I wish I had shouted "ARE YOU ASKING ME FOR A BRIBE????" In Ghana because they used my TEAM PACK HEAVY issue to threaten blocking us but lacked the skills to gist that money is what they wanted. They were cluess that the reason that I'd dumped several belongings because a family member with Autism was Transforming & I was begging him not to do what will get us arrested. Cutlass? What Cutlass?? We don't need no Cutlass??😂😂😂😓 The struggle is real.
A Yemani coursemate urged me not to go to Nigeria after he was, marked, followed to his hotel & robbed at gunpoint/cutlass. I'm like "This white man thinks I will be discouraged from going home? You're not Serious." Two things are envolved: being picked up at the airport & prepaid bribes.😏
