  • This vintage marketing film made in the 1980s shows the Delta Queen plying the waters of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The film features traveling on the DQ while looking at the history of transportation and the communities along the river the Ohio and Mississippi.

I wish we had more of these boats still around. What a blast from the past and charm of these magnificent rivers through America's beautiful Heartland and deep south. Amazing history and culture to be enjoyed.

Today (February 2024), I was reading my trip scrapbook from June 27, 1979. That day, we stopped and saw the Delta Queen, which was docked in Nauvoo, Illinois. I noted it was a four-story passenger paddle-wheel boat. Being a young person from Utah, that was impressionable!

That is around the time we made the film. I retired to North Ogden.

The Delta Queen is sheer beauty and what a lovely soul. Take good care of her and let her plie the waters of the Ohio and Miz again.

It was all good, but just that quick bit: 'Experience the river in many moods' prompted me to comment. My riverboating is mainly Australia's Murray, on our paddlesteamers and full length on my own boat. One aspect which I share with friends is the many moods: hour by hour, or season by season. I've also been on rivers in other nations where the Mark Twain way of life survives: they are still vital arteries, with passenger/cargo boats making riverbank stops.

Up here in St Paul Park Mn. We miss the Delta Queen very Much. At night when She Left ST.Paul You could actully hear the People Talking and Band Playing..Then they would blow the Whistle for the St. Paul Park railroad bridge . I wonder if we will ever get to ride the Delta Queen again.

Lived in Vicksburg in the 90s and remember the delta queen and Mississippi queen use to dock regularly and sometimes both would come threw on a race and leave together. I always wanted to ride the Mississippi queen growing up.

I can understand your desire to ride the Mississippi Queen. I, fortunately, got to ride the Queens on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers for two months while making the films. A thrill of a life time.

Rode the Mississippi Queen in 2000 from Cincinnati to St. Louis. Coming from the SF Bay Area where the Delta Queen was "born", I always admired and wanted to do a trip or more on that vessel. Been anxiously awaiting a reprieve from the politically motivated regulations that sidelined it to be overcome so that dream could be realized. If health holds out, there's still hope. Hopefully it will be back in service soon. ;o)

As a kid living in Evansville in the 60’s I remember going down to the river to see the Delta Queen docked there.
Years later, in Sacramento, CA, I visited the Delta King and realized the Queen was from California, and ‘Delta’ meant the CA Delta, not the Mississippi delta. That was a shock!
