I actually prefer living in the UK even though I am from Portugal. I don't have a job like yours, just a normal 9 to 5 but with amazing flexibility and work/life balance and much better pay than what I'd ever get in Portugal. All my friends back home can't afford to buy a house (I can't afford one here in the UK either 😂), but the majority also have terrible jobs that don't offer as much work/life balance or proper pay to even rent a place. I'm talking about renting a place in the big cities like Lisbon or Porto, but unfortunately that's where we need to live in order to find work. A place like Algarve, or an island like Madeira, is much cheaper to rent or buy house, but then you can't find a proper job around those areas. Not to mention the country is unable to help any of the young people with proper initiatives. Basically it feels like everywhere you go there will be issues in one way or another. For your situation and lifestyle, I can see how a place like Algarve would be beneficial, but for me with an office work that would provide all the perks I currently get in my job in the UK, living in Portugal is a pipe dream. Maybe when I retire I'll be able to finally return.
When the final hyper-philosophical tirade ends, a message suddenly appears onscreen "Please consider subscribing". The contrast is weird and a stark reminder that, as someone put it, you may master the technology to send an astronaut to Mars, but you need to find a way for them to be able to pee...
Give the UK some love, there is nothing better than a lunch in an old english Pub (if you can afford it). You can barely walk down the streets in some countries for crime.
Thank you for finally speaking out honestly and bravely about what is transpiring. I have followed you guys from the beginning. I believe the more you speak out- your channel will grow. People need this type of content.
I’m 26 and me and my boyfriend can’t afford to buy a house when we both earn over 40k each.. we live in the south coast and are trapped in the system, we want children and our own family but we’re too scared to bring children into this country with how it is heading. It’s so depressing. We are really considering moving elsewhere to escape. It’s so sad…
… and then you entrust your precious children to the British (broken) school system and watch them develop mental health problems! So stressful having kids when the education system is such a mess. There’s no help.
We live in south coast too. Can't afford to buy either but we have 2 children, pay a ridiculous amount in rent, a mortgage would be cheaper for us. Crazy world we are in! 😂
Many people in Canada especially in the major cities & surrounding areas are truly struggling financially. The number of people going to food banks has skyrocketed. Most can’t afford the sky high rent prices or mortgage so they end up moving back in with their parents or go to somewhere super far. It’s been quite sad to see so many tents everywhere as so many have become homeless (we have a huge shortage of shelters). I don’t know what the solution would be.
All countries have there issues, but that all them are just as bad as the UK or have the same issues is not the case. Its easy to say that if you havent lived in other countries and have sth to compare it too :)
Don't ever move to Italy, you would hate the burocracy and the inefficiencies in the system and in everyday life. Yes everything is cheaper here than in the UK and the weather is beautiful but life is overall so complicated and terribly disorganized. I hope Portugal is better from this point of view.
A appreciate your comment on bureaucracy, I would agree with that. Although, what Italy takes from you (with its stresses, low wages and complicated system) it gives back in nature, food, culture, history, friendliness of its people, weather... Now, in the UK it might be easy to pay your bills, open bank accounts, obtain some personal documents, etc but it certainly doesn't feel like it's giving back that much. A pub lunch - like someone else said in a comment - is just not enough! With the usual traffic, it takes on average 2 hours to drive out of South London to the coast to go and breathe a little fresh air (train prices are ridiculous!). Central London has become so very expensive, even a simple dinner out can cost you £50 pp (close to NYC prices), trains are buggered, strike after strike and prices keep going up and even when you manage to leave London and venture further afield, you're surrounded by the same chains of restaurant, dying pubs, traffic... it did not used to be like this but it is now. When I moved to the UK in 2006 - when young, low-paid foreigners were still very welcome - this was a different country, full of possibilities and opportunities. It's fast becoming more and more similar to Italy when it comes to how stressful and frustrating every day life is. But Italy GIVES BACK.
@@martauk I agree with your points, I am Italian (with an english mother) and have always lived in Italy and I do love it here. However I think that many things that Steph says he is frustrated with, are actually worse over here. The only thing that pulls him apart from us Italians is that he will have a high income while living in a cheaper country which makes his situation sort of unique. Here in Italy the wages are actually going down so eating out has become extremely expensive also for us! the only reason I would never live in UK is the weather. I give you that. get ready for extreme heat in the summer though! :-D
I feel so lucky to have been born here. The outrageous privilege. I love the seasons, the opportunities, the humour. I don’t believe it’s broken but wish you the best.
Trust me it’s broken as well as all 5 eyes countries. What will it take you guys to wake up??? Pubs are closing. Small business devastated. You can’t even express your opinions anymore. What more do you Need to open your eyes?
@ Don’t own any but proactively decide to live here & make my life as positive as possible including contributing to my community. Change is possible ✌🏻
Same with the US, I just payed $40 for parking 😩 I regularly have to pay $10-20 for parking here in Miami. We're just so tired of the high prices but we're stuck here for another 3 years until my husband's contract ends.
Would the buyer accept a reduction on the sale price equal to the one pound per month charge? It seems such a trivial amount to stop a sale. Perhaps they've had cold feet and are using it as an excuse to get out of the deal? How frustrating!
Totally feel you on many subjects in this video. Me and my partner have said many times the past few months, shall we leave the UK? It’s falling apart.
Imagine placing a single grain of sand in a cathedral. Even then, that cathedral would be more densely packed with sand than the universe is with stars.
We are currently looking to move overseas due to all of the reasons you have outlined. Portugal also being one of our options. We have two young boys, aged 2 & 4. Although we are very proud to be British and we love our country, it’s heartbreaking watching it being destroyed in front of our very eyes. Punished if you are even the slightest bit successful, yet unpunished for committing serious crimes.
I so desperately want to get out of England with my family but without an EU passport (we have no EU family within the restrictions), it’s really expensive and uncertain. We didn’t vote to leave the EU either so it’s such a mess. If we don’t make it then our eyes are on Scotland, my partner is Scottish and I just love the integrity of that country comparatively.
I love watching your videos as you are open and honest about how things truly are and always have a great mindset. I wish you and your family all the best in your new venture. Thinking about the bigger picture is exactly how we should all think. I can't wait to see what happens next for you all.
This is just my opinion but, the majority of people in the U.K. regardless of age, can hardly afford the cost of living and the way in which it has dramatically increased in the last few years. Young people cannot afford rent, let alone houses. Those that sacrifice things to own a house cannot afford to do anything other than pay their bills. The rate of earnings has not increased anywhere in line with inflation, most households are losing 10% of income per year for the last few years - and this includes doctors, nurses, teachers while execs at energy and water companies take bonuses . Our basic utilities like water and electricity and the council tax that is referred to in the video have gone up by £100's per year in the last few years, this is due to systemic government failings. Our precious resources such as the NHS & schools are suffering. The problem is UK wide and near on every household besides the 1% is struggling regardless of circumstance. Oh and it rains all the bloody time 😂 sorry that was so long, didn't realise how hard it would be to explain after I started. I think this is what Stef is referring to
One way to enjoy your life more is to simplify it, stop the materialism, the comparison, the constant media, constant opinions from all sides. Move away from your computer/phone and go out into the natural world because there is so much to be learnt from this.
You need to follow your heart for the sake of your children. Uk has fallen, Canada not far behind. My parents moved from Hungary to Canada in their late 40’s - left everyone and everything behind. Ironically, if it wasn’t for my kids, I’d be moving back to Hungary right now.
You have to live here, to feel it. Things like small businesses and farmers, being hit with new taxes out the blue. Ten million pensioners having their winter fuel payment removed, causing many to die this winter. People being thrown in prison, for posting unpleasant things on social. Two-tier justice and policing. The UK is a basket case and the Michalaks are doing the right thing, by escaping it all.
There’s a long list so I’ll give you the highlights. A prohibitive tax system that takes most of our hard earned money. A dictator for a prime minister, who has let hardened criminals and paedophiles out of prison to make way for people who show their frustration at the state of things through protest and tweets. Mass immigration from countries that do not have the same values leading to an increase in knife crime, rapes and sexual assaults and the loss of our culture. Pot hole filled roads and a general lack of cleanliness and maintenance. The UK is obscenely expensive, dirty and unsafe.
Absolutely right about the need to look at ourselves, our sense of identity and ideological beliefs. This year I’ve found my self taking a step back from mainstream and social media (and all the common narratives and ideas floating about). I’ve taken up meditation and found myself reading the types of books I wouldn’t have previously been that bothered about like Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth. It all feels a bit weird.
I feel in 10-15 years the UK may have improved massively but I feel that with how darn expensive it is there now, in 10-15 years itll be SO expensive that it just will be out of our reach if that makes sense. And yes, im British born and raised in England but left 4 weeks ago and began a new life in Malaysia (for so so many reasons)
Did you not see this happening over the last 14 years? (Also people are putting up with it because they are more bothered by the inconvenience of protesters than what the people are protesting).
Well done Rufus on the 11k, enjoyed this video immensely. Stef where do you get all the clips that go with your epilogue? All the best Adam PS Hannah well done also getting back to teaching yoga
YEAH RUFUS!!! Stef, We are also seeing mass exodus of our cities for pretty much the same reasons. My husband and I live in quite a large home but are unable to purchase a downsized home because they are between 300 - 400 thousand dollars! This is about the price we will sell our 2,300 sq ft home; but where our 3% mortgage rate is we can't afford the 7% that is being offered now. Be grateful you are young enough to have choices. You don't when you are at retirement age even if you have prepared your whole life for it. Hang in there!
England is unrecognisable, I agree. Change will come, I just don’t think we have reached that tipping point yet. Many people are waking up to the corruption in the world and the powers that be know it. Sorry to hear about your house but maybe for whatever reason it’s not your time to move at this moment 💫 also well done Rufus!
I don't recognise Australia anymore, but I am European-born and never truly fit in here anyways. Your channel is helping me keep focused on my move to New Zealand next year. All the best with Portugal 🙂
@@catherinelodge4580 mostly immigration, I am beginning to feel like a minority in many places, shopping centres, parks etc and the traffic congestion especially in my local Gawler which used to be called "Best of Town and Country" when I moved there 15 years ago but is now just suburbia without the proper infrastructure.
Loooong time silent viewer here (I still watch your london vlogs like a total dweeb). I really admire your bravery with the move, we try and challenge ourselves all the time on what life really is and whether the london/job/house/family life is the one. But truthfully I think the global west is really struggling, its capitalism thats the problem, not just england. We're actually one of the only European countries to have elected a vaguely 'progressive' (and I do say that in massive air quotes) government in the last few years. Ill be watching on with interest and will be so intrigued to hear the honest reflections i know you'll give on your new life. If it really is better, its going to be really inspiring for is all.... P.s. Hannah we all struggle with consistency and motivation, nuerodiverse or not, we're with you!!xx
Completely agree with how you feel about the uk :( the system is so broken and it doesn’t feel like home anymore - and when I say home I mean- comfort, safety, pride in what this place stands for etc…so, so sad x
Same in the US, I love a lot of things about this country, but our political situation has been depressing for 8 years, and more of a shitstorm to come. If it wasn’t for our kids and now also grandkids, we would be moving to New Zealand, I think, although I’ve heard it’s almost impossible to do this.
Couldn’t agree more Stef 👏👏👏👏👏… love that analogy.. proper scary but WOW …. Well done to Rufus … love that he did that … really long too 👌❤…. Hope you all get good news soon … Portugal is calling loudly now 😅… another great vid love Pauline x
I'm asking myself this, honestly - so this is NOT shade or anything - but sometimes I wonder if changing one's perspective can change your life. I'm beginning to realize that NOWHERE is perfect. I have two places to call home - one in Los Angeles and one in Vorarlberg, Austria. One might say one is 'better than the other for THIS reason' . However, going back and forth, it's like apple-picking .. I can complain that one place doesn't offer one particular thing and the other does, however, the one place is better in the other way. Often people will ask me 'why here? Why not there? Which do you like better?' and honestly, I answer 'I like them both equally for different reasons' and I think maybe that might be the case here with you? I don't know - just food for thought. Often times the scramble is the excitement, the complaint is the driving force and then you find out that the grass isn't always greener. But! Sometimes it IS!!! Believe me, the US is NOTHING like it was growing up in the 70s, 80s, 90s. I don't even recognize the culture anymore, the hostility on the roads, the divide among everyone, actually. But here in the EU, it's sort of a whole other weird vibe too.... Here's to all of us somehow finding a place. I just figure 'home' is where I close my front door behind me and I'm with the family and the doggos. Keeping up alongside you guys. xoxo
I agree I live like a primitive in the midst of it, if everyone just stoped literally buying into it it would all change in a minuite. Bush walking and swimming etc all free and so much better for you than shopping and media . Make art!!!
Well done to Rufus! Thanks for the dog penis lols. Never know what we’re going to get with these videos 😂 can Hannah share more book chat! Really love hearing what she’s reading! ❤
Netanyahu is 100% to blame. He's an entirely self-serving top tier Illuminati and has made flattening the entire area his mission. FACT! I pray that Trump will refrain from being influenced by his Jewish son in-law, and finally see right through that monster akin to Hitler. US funding for Israel HAS TO STOP. Period. Everything I know about him & that mess that he's intentionally created, I learned through Matthew's Messages and MatthewBooks (one word).
If you had not been disappointed in the election you would be in the exact same situation that Great Britain is in and why the Michalak family must leave their home in search of a better place that America will soon return to!!
Thing is we can't all leave now because of Brexit. I'm Scottish but we have no say in anything . I'm fed up of the part the UK is playing just now in the Middle East. I've never felt more ashamed of being British, so I now tell people I'm Scottish
@@TheMichalaksI’ve just had my comment deleted. I was explaining to someone what the issues are in the Uk. One minute it was there, the next it was gone. I assume keir himself deleted it. I expect a call from the thought police shortly lol
Wish you had used your platform to speak up about the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East. We all have a Moral obligation to speak up on injustice. You can’t be disappointed by what’s around you when you choose yourself to remain silent 😢
It makes no difference if anyone speaks up about the war in the Middle East. I'm in my mid 50's - growing up watching war reports on the Middle East, wars which have gone on for thousand's of years. The wars are just passed down to the next generation, million's of children and their families have died. The governments in charge do not understand how precious life is

Well done little man.xx💕💕
We as a country have cone out of an abusive relationship...its called 14 years of the Tories absolutely fucking us 😢
Loooong time silent viewer here (I still watch your london vlogs like a total dweeb). P.s. Hannah we all struggle with consistency and motivation, nuerodiverse or not, we're with you!!xx
why do I have a feeling Rufus is going to be a comedian

The poster 😅😅
Completely agree with how you feel about the uk :( the system is so broken and it doesn’t feel like home anymore - and when I say home I mean- comfort, safety, pride in what this place stands for etc…so, so sad x
Same in the US, I love a lot of things about this country, but our political situation has been depressing for 8 years, and more of a shitstorm to come. If it wasn’t for our kids and now also grandkids, we would be moving to New Zealand, I think, although I’ve heard it’s almost impossible to do this.
There won't be a Shire, Pippin.
You can get an indemnity insurance policy re the rent charge - ask your solicitor 👍🏼
UK WAS ONCE grate country to live now all this is gone ...all my frends move back to poland and i am moving after 20 years ...
Brexit/Eireexit

I’ll see you in five guys 😂
What are your thoughts on the israel palestine conflict?
Netanyahu is 100% to blame. He's an entirely self-serving top tier Illuminati and has made flattening the entire area his mission. FACT! I pray that Trump will refrain from being influenced by his Jewish son in-law, and finally see right through that monster akin to Hitler.
US funding for Israel HAS TO STOP. Period. Everything I know about him & that mess that he's intentionally created, I learned through Matthew's Messages and MatthewBooks (one word).

You brits have to pay for your brexit that will take long time.

Rich influencer complains about taxes, moves to tax haven
No more tax havens now Keir Starmer is in power. It means paying taxes both in the country you're from and the country moving to
Great deflection there 🙄 everyone has the right to complain about tax. It’s literal theft!
I am American, you cannot image my disappointment after the last presidential election. My worst fears about my country has been confirmed.
Biden? Jaysus, the senile cretin with his seedy son…wow..Trump will sort out the country..
You may be able to do something: like moving to a friendlier state and vote for it to become INDEPENDENT.
Really 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️then move out of America 🇺🇸, I’m the opposite we are proud of our new president coming into office in 2025
Good luck in Portugal guys, the UK is in a sorry state. Also sorry you are moderating political comments on here. 😢

We all have a
Moral obligation to speak up on injustice.
