I can relate to a lot of your points here, but the strange thing is that most people who drive this car, just loves it despite all its failures. Because its so damn good at what it does, and especially because this car doesn't try to be anything that its not! And of course because of its very unique size and looks :)
I guess 4 speed auto has a OD lock to prevent switching to 4th gear when you need. On 4th gear at 100kmph engine revs at 3000rpm. This is same as of my Suzuki SX4 1.6 litre sedan doing at 100kmph on 5th gear.
What do I hate? It is 4x4 capable but only becomes a capable 4x4 vehicle once you have at a minimum installed radial cup protectors and rock sliders. Then follows a snorkel, better offroad tyres, a lift kit, a differential breather kit to facilitate water crossings without the likely danger of getting water into your differential oil and improved recovery points front and back. You have now spent around 30% on top of the purchase price to make the Jimny capable for modest overlanding adventures provided that those adventures don't exceed the capacity of the minute 45l fuel tank.
All those things you are adding will make the jimny just like other 4×4 vehicles..and also add to the price. It's hhe simplicity that keeps it affordable and the absence of all the other things that keeps it light so that it can utilize its advantage of power to weight to keep up and exceed other 4×4 s
You raise many valid points, currently have a TD5 defender but am expecting delivery of a new commercial Jimny in september, so will have to wait and see for myself.
I'm guessing you didn't take a test drive or take much time to go over it before you bought it. Mine is coming this month, never test drove one either. I will see if I agree with your points.

I am happy with my Jimny bought it in may 2020 you work with what they have supplied and it becomes enjoyable .

mate i bought a scan gauge unit to show me actual water temp of motor < works perfectly
